But so much negative propaganda and stereotyping has put such a damaging connotation about the disorder. I blame the media and Hollywood for sensationalizing it while the truth is people with bipolar are apt to commit criminal acts or acts of violence equal to the general population. But all you seem to hear about is that someone killed their wife and he was bipolar, like that was the main influence in his deeds.
It is a very difficult disorder for the person who has it, but if they take their meds they can be very productive, loving caring individuals....all we need is a chance to prove it.
I was afraid to tell my friends when i was 1st diagnosed when I was 15 years old. It took me 5 years to tell my best friend and he had no problem with it. I am sorry your friend's attitude wasn't the same as mine.
I tell everyone straight up now that I have bipolar, especially potential dates. It is up to them to make up their minds about the disorder. I only ask that they are informed with the truth and not the negative stereotypes that give bipolar such a bad name. After all, it is what I have, not who I am.....
My pics are 3 years old....too embarassed to put current pic up.
Funny how I am very honest with everything but my vanity...
I have gained weight and until I lose it, I won't put up new pics. But when I get back to the weight I was in my pics (235 lbs), I will be happy to post new ones.
