RE: Is this what they mean by a Welfare State?

Seems to me the phrase "pay their fair share" needs to be defined. The lower 50% of US taxpayers pay no federal income tax. They do pay payroll taxes which include funds for Social Security, which they will get back more than they pay in, and money for current recipiants of medicare/medicaid. They will get that too when they retire.

The lower 50% pay nothing for the federal highways they drive on, the military which protects them, the border patrol which also protects, etc, etc. Maybe I am missing something here? Is the op opposed to "fair share" being defined as the lower 50% need to pay more in taxes, not zero?

Also the lower 50% not only pay zero, they get money back when they subtract their deductions and exemptions including the earned income tax credit. So the lower 50% receives money from the top 50% and free use of all federal programs and expenditures. How many people outside the US know that?

So what is "fair share" again?

Socialism, liberalism, whatever you want to call the redistribution of wealth has NEVER worked anywhere on the planet. Why are people trying to repeat the failures of the past? Is it ego? Do they know what they are doing but the past and present socialists don't know what they are doing?

Greed goes both ways. Yes, some in corporations are greedy. We have a check and balance system in place with private and public overseers. The stockholders and the FCC do the regulatory work, but who watches the government? The biggest bunch of frauds, greedy, criminals are located in Washington DC. Unions are also greedy. The average union worker makes more than a non union worker. The pension funds and retirement plans are exorbinant which is killing jobs. No wonder corps locate manufacturing overseas. They can get labor at a much lower cost. And these same union workers whine about losing their jobs?

To me the greed of the socialist is hurtful and even deadly to the human race. How many people have been slaughtered in countries with left winged gov'ts in history? If you want a socialist gov't, go live in Cuba. Maybe you will be a good member of the state and get a bag of beans at the end of the month. If you do not follow the line, you won't get your bonus but you will get your tongue cut out.

So occupy this....banana

RE: I'm thinking of writing a cookbook for men

I can prepare a meal(not microwave or opening a can of SpaghettiO's) but I can't cook from scratch. I could but it takes too much time and I see cooking as a chore.

Do you spend a lot of time cooking in the kitchen T.? Do you cook from scratch and enjoy it? If you do I take my hat off to you sir...tip hat

RE: Do you like a cat or a dog for a pet in your home?

RE: transhumanism

So fascinating. Thank you for posting it.

Can of worms was the 1st thing I thought of. Then I thought would those worms in the can be genetically altered?...laugh

I tend to agree with the presenter and share some of his viewpoints.

I believe that the genie is out of the bottle and this type of scientific research must be done. Russia and China probably are a generation ahead because of their governments looking for advantages over the western powers. Who knows what they have come up with already?

I just read a book, fiction, called 'Pandora's Star'. It is set in the future and goes into many aspects of the end results of transhumanism. Eternal life has been conquered. Even if you are blown up in an explosion, you can be regenerated from your stored memory files and DNA and can be recreated to who you were before your death.

It was an incredible book to read if you are interested in the outlying results of the science telling both the positive and negative aspects in fictional form. The human population became so great in numbers, other worlds had to be reached and colonized. Artificial worm holes were invented out of this necessity to expand (maybe that is why the Hadron collider was built in Europe). One negative result was creatures used the information also...creatures that were so different of what we think as other-worldly life forms ran amok and only were in existence for the growth of their colonies with no thought processies. In the book they were able to penetrate man's colonies and almost destroyed mankind.

If you are a transhumanist, I suggest the book Pandora's Star as a must read. If you are not a transhumanist, it is a very interesting book to read anyway.

Again, thanks for the post stringman.handshake

RE: Best hotel you ever stayed in ...

Never stayed there but took a tour of The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida. Words can't describe it.

I also visited The Ritz Carlton in Naples, Never stayed there but ate lunch there many times, hung around the pool and pretended I stayed there...laugh

RE: READ IF YOU DARE

This was a fascinating post. Well worth the read...thank you.

I agree with much of what was quoted. We all fear the end of the world will be cataclysmic but maybe it will be a long, strung out process where the human race will socailly engineer themselves out of existence.

RE: have you ever missed someone on CS ?

Jvaski...he made my long list I posted even though he took my face one time and put it on his body wearing only underwear (tighty whities) and posted it on here...laugh

RE: Who has been on CS the longest?

Go to your profile and click on my forums.

My 1st post was November 2006. It was in a thread "Do you have a hairy chest?" My reply was something like "yes, and I have a hairy nightstand too".roll eyes What a dork....

Been on and off of Cs though so u record is fractured.

RE: facebook will go down soon...

Personal disclosure: I choose not to be on facebook. I don't tweet either.

No company is infallable. What happened to the mega giants like AT&T, IBM, the big 3 auto makers, or even Myspace?laugh

Facebook will fade one day and be replaced by something new and improved. Then that company will be replaced....

I think the technology will change that people 100 years from now will laugh at us for networking on sites such as Facebook. There might be a revolution towards introspect and privacy where we don't want any new friend's requests from total strangers, or don't want to meet up with people in high school who snubbed you everyday.

Also as each new generation comes up from the ranks, their world is 1000 times much smaller than our world was when some of us old-timers were young pups. Facebook, myfriends, CS, turning on a computer were so novel to us we ate up everything and anything new and hip. Kids today might think Facebook is pretty boring or passe' and are more interested in actually being away from their computer and doing something else.

At least I hope that is the case....

RE: IT'S OVER.

Hey Bettis. Knowing you and talking to you I know how sincere and how much your heart went into your marriages. It takes a strong man to show the respect you have for your exes.handshake

I have never been married but did fall very much in love. I will not go into detail about what happened but it has had a major impact on my life to this day. I have let her go long ago but the pain I feel is still very ripe today. To answer your question, I do wish I never met her. I can't go back and change it but I have tried to move forward. Apparently I have failed.

RE: God's camera

laugh Very cute.

RE: have you ever missed someone on CS ?
