I agree completely with all you said, Keane, Irwin and McGrath, three of the best footballers we ever produced, and I don't believe any, apart from Given deserve a place on an international side, we don't have the talent, quality any more but all I'm saying is we shouldn't give up yet, we have to believe anything is possible. I hated Charlton's style of football, as you say he had 11 decent players but wouldn't let them play football, this put them under pressure nonsense, and hoofing the ball down the pitch was an insult to the class of players we had.
That's a really tough one, Firstly the state the banks are in are they actually giving 80% mortgages or any mortgages at all. And if they are do you really need to put yourself in that position, in this economic climate when no one knows what's going to happen today never mind tomorrow, to have that kind of a loan to me would be frightening. It's also scary having cash, what do you do if something happens with the euro.
I think of the two scenarios I would probably opt for the second, in my opinion it is probably the safest for now.
That's the whole idea they throw these figures (exaggerated) out there, then you get the whole debate going on the likes of Joe Duffy, where you have the employed battling against the unemployed, you have the employed saying "lazy shower who don't want to work, cut the welfare and we won't have to pay so much tax" Job done. I work and I travel a lot but I don't spend anything like 140 euro a week.
It's what the government do all the time, have us fighting each other all the time, They did it with Single Mothers against Tax Payers. Unemployed against the Employed. Public sector against Private sector, and we fall for it every time. They have been told to slash social welfare spending. It has been on the cards for a long time. How they can say people are better off on welfare is beyond me, how can anyone survive on less than 200 euro a week. I'm on my own don't have any great expenses and I couldn't survive on the dole, and I feel sorry for the people who have to through no fault of their own.
Yeah they certainly came out fighting, a bit unlucky not to score early on. I have Poland and Russia to qualify, but should be interesting with the Czechs though.
The FA are in my opinion corrupt, always have been always will be, there is money in Irish football but it's the wrong people who are getting it. I go to as many Rovers games as I can, always have for as long as I can remember, when you think about it we were homeless for what 25 years, and it was the fans who kept Rovers going, without them they'd be gone, but when you look at some of the grounds they are a disgrace, the money certainly isn't filtering through to the LOI.
