Is Italy is Lying About Their Coronavirus Death Numbers?
I don't think so - I don't believe the official figures released by the Chinese government.
Germany's death rate is about 1.4 % at the moment.
Couple of reasons: Lots of testing - about 350,000 people are tested each week and they did early contact tracing. It started out as an epidemic of skiers - the average age of infected people is 49, which is lower than in other countries. Talking to my siblings, more people are NOT working from home compared to Ireland - but I think they got the message of social distancing quite quickly - it spread among younger people and not so much to the older generation so far. Good public health system lots of intensive care beds (patients from neighbouring countries are treated as well). Political leadership - Angela Merkel recognized the seriousness of COVID-19. She was open in her communication and showed leadership.
It's not easy as kids know all about their rights these days - but that doesn't mean that they take any responsibility.
Family is the basis - looking at my siblings, they wanted to bring up their kids with more freedom and less responsibilities than we were bought up. That backfired spectacularly.
Yes, education starts at home. But looking around, some can't say "no" to the precious little princesses and princes, expect schools to "discipline" their kids and can't handle them themselves.
I don't get why people get kids if they don't want to spend time with them.
A lot of restrictions are sought by the population itself. I see that both in Ireland and Germany the population are asking each other to "stay at home". It wasn't taken serious by anyone (not the government and not the people) at the start, but seeing what is happening in Italy (more so than in China) has frightened people.
Totalitarian systems like China had more success in cracking down than a lot of Western countries where people are not used in being told what to do.
Elections have been postponed, countries assume emergency power - Putin is trying to indefinitely extent his presidency. Hungary's Orban also put in harsh state of emergency powers.
It might be hard for some countries to ease back on power they have accumulated over their citizens during this pandemic.
I was surprised how much people are looking for a totalitarian response from their government instead of simply applying common sense, staying at home and not seeing this time as a holiday and to go out partying.
Well, having a handle on their own kids would help - the police have to break off gatherings instead of parents keeping their kids inside.
It's not just China. More people, more farm animals, more trading.
"A ratcheting up of viral virulence is happening in pig herds, too. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), a disease of pigs that was first described in the US in the late 1980s, has since spread to herds across the worldand strains detected recently in China are more virulent than the early American ones. A 2015 study carried out by Martha Nelson of the US National Institutes of Health and colleagues mapped the genetic sequences of swine flu viruses and found that Europe and the US – the largest global exporters of pigs – are also the largest exporters of swine flu." "That doesn’t let China off the hook. Two highly pathogenic forms of avian flu – H5N1 and H7N9 – have emerged in that country in recent decades."
Interesting article. Modern live and global trade has it's advantages with not only having cabbage and Brussels sprouts available in your local supermarket, but it has it's disadvantages as well.
It's not only you getting older, the same is happening to guys that were born around the same time as you.
People know a lot more what they want. Some want to live their own life/have their own space more than when they were younger. It's not a "must" anymore to have a partner to be happy. Some figured out that happiness is to a big extend up to them.
Some simply can't be bothered with a relationship or the other gender in general.
