M, a better option would be to ditch windows and use one of the Linux distros!
for those of you using windows, the following is a list of freeware programs, which help protect your windows installation:
Anti-virus AVG Avast Avira
Firewall Comodo Internet Security (this also includes an anti-virus feature) - Zone Alarm
Anti-spyware Windows Defender Adaware Spybot Search & Destroy
please do not install more than one firewall and anti-virus application, otherwise you might experience conflicts on your PCs. you can install all three anti-spyware apps listed above, as only Windows Defender is resident in memory. the other two you have to launch them and kick off a scan manually, which should be done at least once a week.
I'm not putting up the URLs from where to get the above mentioned software as its against the rules, so if anyone is interested, just do a Google search for them or send me a mail and I'll send the links back to you.
You'll find everything on CS stories of delusion, but also of success the threads might get hot about monthly payments, worry not as the site have free access.
