It goes without saying, that the photo is the bait.
Look at the top of the screen when you're looking at a profile, and how many people do you see without a picture? Usually, none!
A photo that stands out, will catch the persons eye. You could write teh cure for cancer, or the meaning of life underneath it, but it's not often people bother to read them.
I have several mails in my mailbox mentioning what a lovely profile I have!?!?!? Oh, and my picture is perfect!
Not usually. I have a profile on another site, and it's an epic read! It was done over a course of edits, and was something I added to when the mood took me, or I thought of something random.
To get noticed, a photo that has to stand out, is a priority. If the photo catches their eye, then people will stop to have a better look at it.
I wouldn't go as far to say a profile was important, considering mine is a work in progress. But, if a profile has been thought over, then it shows that (at some time) there was some thought that went into writing it.
If someone only goes on (and on) about how great and fantastic they are, then it's not a profile I'd bother with. They'd be too in love with themselves, to have any spare! If the was to mention things they love to do, and would be looking to share doing them with a partner, then that's someone that actually has thought about it. They are playing the (use this loosely, before all the game-player posts are made) long term game, and not just thinking about themselves.
Judging by my profile views, I'm either collecting pensioners for a SAGA holiday, or they like the May to December concept. I'll just stick to my generation, thanks all the same.

If I say yes, will you stop posting new threads, instead of replies?
