If you can live with below average wages, albeit cheaper housing, and higher cost of living that the average in Canada, then there would be numerous places to live in BC.
Stay away from the Okanogan in general, as in Kelowna, Vernon, and south, if you want affordable, but that's where you'd be best to look for work. The Kootenays are great, as for lifestyle, but little work, yet affordable to live, even if you have a mortgage.
It really depends on your skills, abilty, and drive to work, and what you're willing to give up for convieniences, as well as paying a little more for everything. It's a mixed bag, and all differs from each area to the next, and sometimes in as little as a couple hours of driving.
The only thing I can suggest is, to get out here and explore, get around and see each and every area you'd like to live in. There's a lot to see out here, and it isn't all the same. It's a very diverse province.
