The uber rich have a desperate need to feel different from the mainstream 'mob' and this panders to their egos. It also tidily separates them from the third world as most believe the supreme 'white' race is not from this world and hence, in their minds, whites are more advanced, productive and superior beings. I have some Scientologists in my family and dated one. The are basically white supremacists who have had to enlarge their membership circle and accept other lesser mortals due to economic greed, but fundamentally they believe in a 'them' and 'us' hierarchy. The ones I know are highly intelligent albeit insecure and probably need some kind of God more than most. Still, who am I to judge? Mercifully they do not try to convert people, rarely talk about their beliefs and do not isolate themselves from the rest of the family in the way that Jehovah's Witnesses do (we have them in the family, too)....
