RE: CHARLES MANSON DIES BEHIND BARS.

Manson may have contributed to that reversal, they probably realized they stepped on their Little Richard by sparing this bottom feeders life.dunno

Manson was very intelligent, he could have gone far if he had a better upbringing and early life..

RE: Watch tonights 60 minutes (episode 1373) 11/19/17: Then tell me more about the loving merciful god!!

I find it hard to believe a guy like you never watched 60 minutes. It's been on the air for decades and it's one of the best news shows ever produced.

BTW mr FL it would have been nice to give a little earlier warning so that people could watch it before it was already over.dunno

RE: Zimbabwe

Hear Hear thumbs up thumbs up
Well spoken and quite true. I believe the Dutch also contributed to dragging stone age African cultures into the 20th century and were rewarded by being kicked out and robbed.

RE: Zimbabwe

Speaking of Papua New Guinea, has anybody here seen the documentary

"The Sky Above, and The Mud Below"?

RE: Zimbabwe

Speaking of Zimbabwe, sort of, our misguided CIC Crazy In Chief, is trying to lift the import ban on Elephant body parts from Zimbabwe and Zambia. This action will encourage more killing of these already threatened animals.

Reversing the ban now, when Zimbabwe is in political chaos and appears to have no ability or desire to protect its elephants, is outrageous and inexplicable

The only reason I can think of for this action is it will probably result somehow in trump and/or his family making a lot of money but I haven't figured out how yet. Is there a trump hotel in these countries that caters to big game hunters?dunno

He's supposed to be the POTUS, why on earth is he getting involved with Elephant body parts? Surely he has more important things to do such as preventing a nuclear war with a backward country that borders China.doh

Sorry if I've deflected this thread.

RE: USA's Tax Reform

Republicans in Congress are racing to pass their tax scam—a massive giveaway to millionaires, billionaires, and corporations at the expense of everyone else. And they are trying to push it through the House this week, with the Senate following soon after.

Republicans don't need a single Democratic vote to force it through the House and Senate. This is the same scenario we faced with Trumpcare— a horrific bill that would've hurt regular Americans for the sake of giveaways to the rich.
Sound familiar?

Don't believe the BS that "interested" parties post on social media in the form of u-tubes. Instead, do some research, especially pay attention to where the money goes, read the fine print!

A great line from a song by Tom Waits goes,

"The large print giveth

and the small print taketh away."

New Cookout burger joint in my town

I've been there 3 times and have yet to try their Hamburgers. So far all I've gotten was a BBQ sandwich, (excellent) Chicken quesadilla, (not bad) and a Cheerwine float which I love. I'm going back to try their "never frozen" hamburgers and will report back. The only negative thing I can say so far is the noise level is kind of high but it could have been due to a woman in the back who was laughing at 100+ decibels. It was almost as bad as Waffle House with their banging dishes and yelling orders to the person on the grill. I no longer go to Waffle House without ear plugs and I try to sit as far as possible from the counter which isn't very far.

This might bring tears to your eyes. But that's ok it just means you've got feelings.

Gillian Welch, -Barroom Girls- real Appalachian Mountain music with lyrics

Oh, the night came undone like a party dress
And fell at her feet in a beautiful mess
The smoke and the whiskey came home in her curls
And they crept through the dreams of the barroom girls

Well, she tosses and turns because the sun is unkind
And the heat of the day is coming in through the blinds
Leave all the blue skies for the rest of the world
Because the neon will shine for the barroom girls

Ah, the barroom girls go by your side
Like the ponies who pass on a carousel ride
And all of the colors go around in a swirl
When you dance in the arms of the barroom girls

Now she rolls to her feet when she can't sleep no more
Looks at her clothes lying out on the floor
Last night's spangles and yesterday's pearls
Are the bright morning stars of the barroom girls

Last night's spangles and yesterday's pearls
Are the bright morning stars of the barroom girls

I've been a Gillian Welch fan for years. If you saw the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" then you heard her sing "Go to sleepy little baby"

Enjoybouquet

RE: USA's Tax Reform

Some of what I've heard about the proposed tax plan calls for lowering the corporate tax rate to 20%. Like most people in the middle class I'm in the 25% tax bracket. This means Major corporations like Ford, Bank of America, Home Depot, GE, US Steel, Exxon Mobil, Apple, etc, will be paying a lower tax rate than I pay.

Another punch in the stomach to me or anybody who has a mortgage will not be able to deduct the interest on a home loan, and if that's not enough, they want to eliminate the inheritance tax so that when Millionaires or Billionaires like trump die, their offspring wont have to pay a dime on that windfall. Ordinary people don't worry about an inheritance tax because they got nothing to pass on.

I wonder how the unemployed workers and the "poorly educated" in rural America who are still waiting for jobs feel about putting this charlatan in office? confused

RE: Texas shooting

Wow, no wonder you're still single.

RE: Texas shooting

Who is that adorable little girl? There should be a law against any child being that cute. I'm not a believer but when I come across such absolute perfection I start to have a hard time maintaining my disbelief.

RE: Post your Classical faves here

I worked for years for a Dutch company and a coworker described the way the Dutch speak as a bunch of people constantly clearing their throat. This vid is a perfect example of it. I must confess though that I love hearing this little angel speak almost as much as hearing her sing.

RE: TERRORISM, A GREAT STRATEGY FOR MANIPULATION AND DISTRACTION

FAKE NEWS

RE: Jeff Flake and his Vindictiveness

Republican, a party at war with itself. Abe Lincoln said it best; "A house divided against itself cannot stand."
The Republican party was fractured before the 2016 election what with the Tea Party wing creating a lot of chaos, the Freedom Caucus, the Evangelical wing, the National Debt crowd, the Tax cut freaks, the deregulation group. All these splinters fighting with each other. Along comes Donald Trump with promises to give jobs to the unemployed, cut taxes, brings manufacturing back from China, repeal Obama care, kill all environmental regulations so corporations can get even richer along with their stock holders.
He's been in office for 9 months, about as long as it takes to make a baby and he hasn't accomplished anything.

RE: Jeff Flake and his Vindictiveness

Jeffry Lane Flake (born December 31, 1962) is an American politician serving as the junior United States Senator from Arizona since 2013 alongside former 2008 presidential nominee John McCain.

Born in Snowflake, Arizona, Flake is a graduate of Brigham Young University and was a Mormon missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to South Africa before working in public affairs, serving as Executive Director of the Foundation for Democracy in Namibia and Executive Director of the Goldwater Institute. A member of the Republican Party, Flake was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2000 for Arizona's 1st congressional district. He was redistricted to the Arizona's 6th congressional district during his first term and was reelected six times, serving from 2001 to 2013 and assigned to the Committee on Appropriations.

Flake decided to run for the U.S. Senate in 2012. He defeated three challengers in the Republican primary and, after a close race, beat Democrat Richard Carmona, the former Surgeon General of the United States, in the general election by 49.2% to 46.2%. Flake was sworn in in January 2013 and serves on the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, the Committee on Foreign Relations, the Committee on the Judiciary and the Special Committee on Aging.

Due to his opposition to President Trump, Flake announced on October 24, 2017, that he would retire at the end of his current term instead of seeking reelection in 2018.

The Crusifiction

Thank you for adding to the discussion and providing very useful information. handshake

The Crusifiction

To begin with, I don't believe anything. I know things which I learned from my own experiences, observations and testing but if a person tells me what they claim is a statement of fact, and it doesn't pass the smell test I will not automatically accept it as fact ie believe it no matter how many times they repeat it

Asking questions is part of the path to the truth. If it's not allowed to question a statement or a story, then it probably isn't true and should therefore be discarded.
Personally, I can't be bothered with other peoples beliefs. I'm merely providing valid questions, evidence, and information which bears on the truth or falsehood of a claim. If that offends you that is your problem not mine.

Believers should actually thank me for giving them facts instead of fairy tales. gift

The Crusifiction

Another probable myth is that he was "nailled" to the cross through the palms of his hands. This has been debunked by experiments with cadavers due to there being insufficient strength in the hand to support the weight of a man. The nail would just rip it's way out of the hand between the 2 middle fingers. The people who carried out the task of hanging people from a cross no doubt knew this from experience. The only logical way to "Nail" a body to a cross is through the wrists so the forearm bones would have the strength to bear the weight of the body.
Another little known fact is that nails were prohibitively difficult to make back then and thus extremely expensive to use for such a purpose. Much more likely rope around the wrist was used. Of course nails through the hand sounds so much crueler and infuses much more passionate hatred to the narrative.

The Crusifiction

Now I would like to offer some facts relating to the alleged crusifixion of christ. It is claimed that this one time carpenter/prophet hauled the very cross he was to be hung from all the way to the top of Calvary hill or mountain. In all the pictures I've ever seen of the crusifixion the cross appeared to be rough hewn wood of about 6-8" square. The length of the crossbar had to be at a minimum 6 feet long to allow material for the nails or rope to tie the wrists whichever was done. We have no idea what kind of wood the cross was made from but being conservative to the maximum extreme let's assume it was made of the lightest wood available at the time in the area where this supposedly took place, namely Cedar. This would mean the crossbar weighed about 34 lbs. The vertical mast extended about a foot above the crossbar and the feet of Christ was shone to be about 4 feet above the ground. The vertical mast of the cross couldn't have merely sat on top of the ground because it would have simply fell over. Therefore it had to be set into a hole in the ground at least 2 1/2 feet to keep it from falling over. This would mean the length of the vertical post had to be a minimum of 13 feet. Assuming it had the same cross section as the crossbar and made from the same type of wood, it would have weighed 72 lbs. For a total of 106 lbs at the very minimum.
Now, is it possible for a thin man who probably hasn't done manual labor for years other than preaching, wearing a long robe and sandals, in the heat of the middle east, to haul a 106 lb wooden cross up a big hill?

BTW, if it was Pine, which is much more likely because Cedar, being very scarce, wouldn't have been wasted by turning it into a cross to hang criminals, it would have weighed 125 lbs.
But, What the hell, anybody who believes they're gonna come back to life after they drop dead will believe anything.

RE: If u were born animal - Which would u have prefereed to be - Not that we can really choose ?

Actually we are animals, A mighty weak species at that. I was driving home last night in total darkness and a big rabbit ran across the road right in front of my car. It ran at full speed right into the woods. I thought if I ever tried that I would run right into a tree. Where do we get off thinking we are so great? Drop any one of us into the jungle and we would be supper for most wild animals before Sun up.

Years ago when I was into deer hunting, I was heading up a trail to the top of a fairly steep hill about 300 yards distant. I figured on about a half hour to get to the top taking one step at a time. I heard a deer running through the dense woods at about 30 MPH. All I could do was just stand there in amazement as this deer went flying through the woods like it was an open field going through the trees and thorn bushes without a care in the world. All I could think of was WTH am I doing here?confused

RE: Scientists Find Proof that Humans Have Souls

That's a nice Yorkie you got there.

Live music concerts, an endangered species

I've attended and enjoyed quite a few concerts in my life but it seems these venues are becoming incredibly dangerous, potentially fatal events. Just look at the number of concerts which have come under attack by Terrorists in the last few years. I will never go to a concert again. It is simply way too big a risk to my life. People who stage music concerts must do a much better job of protecting the lives of their attendees. Corralling thousands of innocent music lovers in a building or fenced lot is criminal in it's disregard for human life under the present insane world mood.

Let's face it, The driving force behind staging huge live music shows is the revenue they generate. I'll get my music by other means just like I always have thank you.

An IUD is not hormonal and it takes a doctor to put in place. It's not something a woman can do by herself but of course I wouldn't expect you to know anything about that. RE: Early Sci-Fi

The best early Sci-Fi movie ever made was;
Embedded image from another site

It wove science fact with science fiction. This formula makes the best stories. IMO Edmond Gwenn the old codger professor, was clearly the star of this movie not James Arness though James Whitmore took a close second.
The story explored a real concern back in the 50's that radiation from atomic bomb testing might one day cause genetic mutations in animal and insect life which could have disastrous consequences.

RE: Early Sci-Fi

I can't say that early horror movies ever actually scared me because I knew deep down they were just a movie but there were times when I held my breath like when Frankenstein came upon that little girl by the lake.
