I have my own little generator which I got several years ago during a months long power outage. I remember all too well when New York City lost all power a few decades ago. I lived there at the time. You learn very quickly to adapt, at least some people do.
From 1 "investor" to another, what are you interested in? My interest is Corporate and to a lesser degree, Municipal bond funds. I have steered away from actual Corporate stocks for about the last 20+ years. Bond funds are a lot more stable and generally pay a higher dividend than Co stock.
To answer your question, No, I'm usually depressed around Christmastime. It never used to be that way, when I was around 8 years old I loved Christmas because I got a bunch of toys and most importantly I got to see my father. That was the best part of Christmas for me. When I got around my early to mid teens me and a cpl of friends would go down to Bloomingdales on Christmas eve and open taxicab doors for shoppers for tips. That was 1 of the few advantages of growing up in Manhattan.
Galley, I can't even imagine 77F in the dead of Winter. What kind of heat do you have? It's 39F outside right now probably going down to th 20's tonight. Ashland VA. Inside it's 68F right now. Not exactly warm, but livable. I have an electric blanket on my bed, I turn it on about a half hour before bedtime, I can't stand getting into a cold bed. My programmable thermo is set to maintain 68 deg. I do have a small woodstove which I use just about every day.
What are some of your worst memories from when you were in school?
Mine started from day 1, when I was about 6 years old. My mother walked me to a brick bldg which was 1 long city block away from our apt. It was in fact, a grammar school though I had no idea what it was at the time. We went in and up to the 4th floor where there was a landing with a bench by a door. My mother told me to sit on the bench and she said "Now you be a good boy Tommy" and turned around and walked down the stairs. I had no idea what this place was and I felt like my mother was throwing me away. I called for her to come back but she just ignored me and kept on going. I started crying and yelled after her to come back but she just kept on going down the stairs. Suddenly the door opened and a lady came out, she probably heard me crying, and invited me into the room. The room was pretty big and it was full of kids around my age. It wasn't long before I stopped crying and started playing with all the kids.
I get your point but in hindsight flying cars was such a stupid idea I guess nobody thought of what it takes to learn to fly it's a lot more difficult than driving a car. Not to mention people would have to get a pilots license and where the hell would they be able to land the damn thing? If that's not enough, where would you park it.
Ear Worms are songs stuck in your head, even at night when you're trying to get to sleep this damn song keeps playing. Most times they are songs you can't stand under normal conditions and were never a favorite of yours. This one was in my head last night.
If you "could" travel in time, which way would you go, forward to the future or back to the past? Assuming of course that you could return to the present without suffering any permanent damage either to you or to anything or anybody else.?
Me, I would go to the past and hopefully not make some of the mistakes I made back then. Of course if I did that my life would change to the point that I probably wouldn't be here typing right now cause I'd probably be dead.
It was interesting how I got started in stamp collecting. My mother took me with her to see a lawyer, probably about getting more child support from my father. The lawyer asked me if I collected stamps, I said no and he showed me a small pile of stamps he tore off some envelopes. I immediately regretted saying no cause I thought there might be some unused stamps in that little pile. I decided to start collecting stamps in case my mother ever went back to see that lawyer I would have a 2nd chance of getting those stamps he offered. Well, my mother never went back to that lawyer ever again and I have no idea what he ever did with that little pile of stamps, probably threw them out.
In Winter you may find little beetles that appear to be Lady bugs crawling on your ceiling. They apparently are seeking relief from the cold so they sneak into your house any way they can. What, if anything, do you do about them?
I've thought about that incident on the roof many times and my friend Danny whitnessed the entire event so if I actually did fall off the roof to my death Danny would have been an eye whitness to the whole thing and this SOB would have at least spent the rest of his life in prison or worse, he may have faced the electric chair which was the method of execution in New York at the time.
