RE: Would Donald Trump make a good President

I will voice a serious well thought out answer.
On balance I don't think he will make a very good President because he has no experience in the political arena and this is not a position you should learn on the job. He is arrogant and insulting and this is about the worse trait a President can have when dealing with foreign heads of state. America is hated around the world because we are being depicted as an aggressive war mongering bully. We Americans know this is not true but that unfortunately is the image we carry and a bombastic President will only more firmly entrench this bad image. Trump is extremely outspoken with apparently no regard for the consequences and this carries a large risk that he will say something to get us into a situation we don't want with other world powers. Teddy Roosevelt said "Speak softly but carry a big stick." Trump has the big stick but I'm afraid he will wave it around like a baseball bat.
I hear Republicans say "He will make America great again." When did America stop being great?
They say "We're gonna take our country back." Take it back from who?

Trump is a great businessman and a Billionaire. So was Mitt Romney. We didn't want a one percenter in the White House before and we don't want one now. America is a country not a corporation and shouldn't be run like one. The last thing I want running my country is a CEO and a Board of Directors.
I am used to trumps manner of speaking because I too was raised in NYC and he sounds normal to my New York ears but to others around the world he must sound like chalk on a blackboard.

5 star Address Hotel ablaze in Dubai

How the hell do you evacuate a building that big?

5 star Address Hotel ablaze in Dubai

300 meters tall hotel engulfed in flames on TV right now.

RE: Would Donald Trump make a good President

First of all this poll is seriously flawed/biased because it has 3 YES choices and only 2 NO choices. That is basically a scewed poll which favors one answer over the other. Also, putting reasons in the poll choices is a bad idea because people may have reasons other than the reasons stated. It would have been much better to simply list YES and NO and let people voice their reasons in their comments.

RE: Would u date someone who has little time to live?

I don't think a person with only a short time left to live would be thinking about dating.

RE: Blind date

Bingo.

RE: The Affluenza Teen

I just saw on TV that they were tracked by the US authorities by their cell phone and "other" things possibly something electronic in the vehicle. This kid ran into those people with a Ford F350 pick up, that is the biggest F series pick up Ford makes. That is a rather large truck. They keep showing him walking into court in an orange jump suit I can't help but notice how he was walking with such swagger. He's gonna be very popular in adult prison.

The Irish wear it off.

Jews are very optimistic, they cut off an inch before they know how long it's gonna be.

RE: R.I.P. Lemmy

I met him when I was a little kid, living in Toronto.

Never met Lemmy, but my brother and a few friends did after their concert here in Edmonton a few years ago. They went to a bar after the show, and in walks Lemmy, so they had drinks with him while playing pool. He was a genuine, decent person, and apparently a fairly good pool player. I was supposed to meet them at the bar, but stayed home instead.[/quote]oops.doh

When I was maybe 12 I went to a Basketball game by the Globe Trotters. I didn't realize at the time they were mostly into entertainment and exibitionism. I thought it was a real basketball game with real competition. Come to find out it was all showbiz. They always played against the same team and of course they always outshown the other team which was part of the script. At the time I couldn't understand how come the other team was so inept.

RE: R.I.P. Lemmy

I thought this thread was about Meadowlark Lemon of the Harlem Globe Trotters who also passed away.

Hey Johnny, knock it off

You keep dragging old dead threads from the grave and it isn't cool. Some of the posters on these threads are not even alive anymore, many others have moved on. Some websites don't even allow such things it's called "Necroing" and if you get 3 warnings for doing it you get your account terminated. It would be much better to create a new and interesting thread instead.

A day after Christmas a large chunk of Texas gets wiped off the map

If that isn't bad enough a blizzard is bearing down on the area. Hundreds of people have lost everything furniture, clothes, photo albums, titles, computers, TV's, appliances, coin & stamp collections, art works, irreplacable heirlooms, vehicles, not to mention loved ones. Now they don't even have a house to go to or even transportation. They can't even sleep in their car because their car is upside down in a muddy ditch with all the windows smashed. In many places there is nothing but squares on the ground to mark where homes once stood.

I wonder what the believers in the Lone Star state, who a day after celibrating the birthday of his supposed son, were wiped out are saying right now? Probably something inane like "God works in mysterious ways."

RE: Wow

Wow is right. The OP rode a scooter from New Rochelle to Queens, a body torturing 21 miles. When I was 16 I rode a bicycle from Manhattan to Nyack NY and back by myself = 51 miles....TWICE.

RE: Would Donald Trump make a good President

If ANY Republican is elected to the Presidency, my first act will be to pull out of all my investments and put the proceeds into a money market savings acct, because I predict a second great depression that will make 2008 look like a minor hiccup.

RE: what does christmas mean too you?

When I was a kid it meant my dad would come for a visit and bring presents. I was always happy to see him. I was always hopeful that he would live with us but he never did. Come to find out years later that he was never even married to my mother. He still paid child support though which wasn't much, $37.00 a month for me and my brother.
He was an electrical engineer and a draftsman. He worked for Sonotone, a Co that made hearing aids. His experience with micro electronics led to him to a career with the Aerospace industry. He's gone now but a lot of his work is still in orbit on satellites. He also has servos he designed on the F16 fighter plane. Last time I saw him was in the mid 60's when he told me his side of the story. All my life I'd only heard my mothers side. It turns out when I used to anticipate his visit as an 8 YO kid, he was already married to another woman and had 3 sons one of which was also named Tom. My mother was little more than a P of A to him. I still loved him even though I hardly ever saw him. He was my dad and that's all that mattered.

I totally believed in Santa Claus and one day my friend Jimmy Donleavy and I had a long drawn out argument about if he was real. I didn't win.
Christmas to me had nothing to do with JC it was all about presents and seeing my dad.
I no longer celebrate Christmas because to me it's meaningless and to do so would make me a hypocrite..

If Trump becomes president I'm moving to Bolivia.

RE: If money was problem which luxury vehicle would you choose?

Chevrolet didn't have a V8 between 1940 and 1950. The Chevy V8 (283 cubic inch aka "Small Block") didn't come out until 1955 and wasn't available in a pick up truck until 1960.

Which Republican candidate will NOT be the next president?

I wonder what the Trump camp thinks of an endorsement from Vladimer Putin? It almost seems like a gift they really don't want. This is a silver bullet for the other Republican hopefuls not to mention a mortar round for Democrats if Trump happens to get the nod. The only thing worse than a Putin endorsement would be one from Abu Bakr Al-Bagdadi.
Putin is no dummy, he probably figured this would torpedo Trump.

ISIS/ISIL/DAICH/WTF do we call ourselves anyway? just suffered a major defeat

It's 20 women, not 5 women and it was an 80% turnout. It's a start and a damn good one. Down playing this accomplishment by women in the Mideast is no different from down playing the accomplishment by women in the United States in 1920 with the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution granting women the right to vote.

It's kinda funny that Obama owns you and you don't even know it. He is stuck in your head and he's all you think of.

Five Female Candidates Elected In Saudi Arabia, As Women Vote For The First Time

"At least five women have won seats in Saudi Arabia’s municipal polls, the country’s first-ever elections open to female voters and candidates, AP reported.

The female candidates were elected to three councils - two in Ihsaa governorate and one each in Tobouk and Mecca, as votes were still being counted on Sunday, Al Jazeera reported.

Salma bint Hizab al-Oteibi was elected to the council of Madrakah, a region in Mecca.

Congratulations to Salma bint Hizab al-Oteibi. First woman Councillor in #Saudi ???? #SaudiArabElection #Mecca

— ??? ???????? (@HindAleryani) ID: 7567203Women in Saudia Arabia went to the polls today after it was confirmed earlier this year that they would be allowed to vote for the first time in history.

Saudi Arabia is the last country in the world to open its ballots to women.

Officials say that 130,000 women registered to vote in Saturday’s election, although this still pales in comparison to the 1.35 million men in the country who registered to vote, according to the BBC.

It is also the first time female candidates have been able to stand for election, with 978 women alongside 5,938 men vying for 284 seats. This represents two thirds of the kingdom’s councils."

Many say "Read the Quran" well, here are some verses

I just popped in here before I go to bed and I realize I need to clarify something I said.
"Getting paid by the word" is a slang expression that means the person doesn't get to the point with few words, but goes on and on and on.
With that I'll say Happy Thanksgiving and good night.

RE: Which State should I visit first?

If you make your way to NYC I would suggest you don't bring your bike into Manhattan. Find a camping place in Staten Island and take the ferry to the lower tip of Manhattan (it's free to pedestrians) and buy a day pass for the subway. You can ride all day for free and explore the city from top to bottom.
One road I would definitely plan on is Skyline Drive. I rode from Hackensack to FL on a Suzuki 380 triple and planned on running the whole length of Skyline Drive. I made it as far as Harrisonburg at night time when I was frozen to the bone and had to get a room. I had ridden 3.5 hours in the rain and I never felt as wet even in a swimming pool.

Many say "Read the Quran" well, here are some verses

Fair question.

I frequent another unrelated site. It's a car site, not a dating site and about a year ago the owner banned any discussion about politics or religion. It was both a good and bad decision. Good because it eliminated 90% of the juvenile bickering that seemed to permeate these topics. Bad because it trampled on peoples First Amendment right of free speech. Bad too because with the banning of threads on politics members have even been intimidated to post threads about news events because threads have been locked down because of the possibility of their becoming political. So I generally take a hands off position on the threads I create unless someone gets really obnoxious or posts info proven to be false.
Also, like most people I have a real life and can't afford the luxury of living on this site 24/7. The other thing is some of these people must be getting paid by the word.

RE: Ugh...Winter again

It was 30' here yesterday AM. 33 now. I've started making fires about 10 days ago. I don't know what I would do without my little box stove. I go through about a cord of wood a year.

I'm having trouble finding anything in her post that could be considered nasty. She was just quoting sources and offering opinions.

Thank you kaetchenvonhn for clearing up a question which had been vexing me, namely: Why on earth Merkel would invite all these Syrian Muslims into Germany beyond the quantity needed to bulk up the labor pool so old Germans can be supported and live in comfort to a ripe old age? Here I was thinking Merkel was just being stupid but your research shines a historical light on the subliminal leanings of anti semitism still dwelling in the brains of an unknown percentage of Germans. This comes under the heading,
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend"
