RE: Favourite type of dog

My neighbor had a female Black Lab when I had free range laying hens. Over about 1 year she killed 2 dozen of my hens. She didn't eat them, just killed them and she was very sneaky about it. She would look around to make sure no humans were watching before she would attack. I had one hen left, a beautiful Red Star, it was evening and time for her to head back to the henhouse. I went out later to lock up the henhouse and it was empty. I went to the last place I saw her (on my neighbors front lawn) and found her dead with a broken back. I was so mad I picked her up and flung her at my neighbors house. It bounced off the wall and landed on their front porch.
I rebuilt my flock and eventually the Lab got too old and too fat to catch a chicken and finally died. Several months later the same neighbor bought a young male "Fiest"
And the killing resumed.
Eventually my neighbor sold his house and moved further out into the country where he could enjoy his passion for plying the woods with his trusty dog by his side. One day he was out in the woods and the Fiest ran off after some small animal and he never saw the dog again.

A couple of months ago I sold my flock because with another Winter approaching I asked myself a question I couldn't find a satisfactory answer to. "Why the hell am I doing this?" Surely it's not for the money I get from selling a few dozen eggs.
I may get Chickens again next Spring because they do have a number of benifits apart from laying eggs, but who knows?

RE: Favourite type of dog

We had an Irish Setter when I was a kid. My older brother took him for a walk and tied his leash to a car door handle and went into a store. When he came out, the car was gone. Never saw the dog again.

I'm not a dog person but if I were to ever have a dog again it would be a Boston Terrier.

The global temperature of the Earth is going up

The island of Kiribati in the Marshal Islands may be underwater in one generation. This will probably lead to a flood of environmental refugees coming to Australia and NZ. Better get ready for tent camps to spring up epirb. The good news is you'll be able to sell a lot of your veggies, the bad news is all these new buyers use sea shells for money. I have heard you can grind them up and sprinkle the dust on the ground as fertilizer so it wont be a total loss.

RE: World War 3

You're crazy if you think that the US supports the Muslim Brotherhood. I would like to know where on earth you get such a stupid idea.

RE: Paris attacks: 60 reported killed, hostage situation ongoing

If I was a believer I would say thank god for the Atlantic Ocean.

RE: last nights debate

I missed the last dog & pony show. If you've seen 1 Republican debate, you've seen them all.

RE: COP21/CMP11 ,,, GET INVOLVE !!!!

I would like to see your source for this nonsense.

And BTW, there is no such thing as "Clean Coal".

The coal these plants burn is the same stuff that's burned in all coal fired power plants, the only difference is the exhaust gasses in supposedly "clean coal burn" power plants is scrubbed after combustion takes place. Also, nobody is closing down coal fired power plants with scrubbers installed but they do want to switch dirty plants over the clean burning natural gas.

Help ID this British film

What's the name of that film where these 2 yokels wearing bib overalls hide in the bushes by a porta-potty and wait for a stranger to go into the thing to take a dump and the yokels come out of the bushes and push the thing over leaving the guy sitting on the hopper out in the open?

RE: Why Are Men Frightened of Marriage?

Men are opposed to marriage because they don't want to bring the legal system of lawyers and judges and the courts into the relationship if the marriage craters.

Old B/W WW2 war movies

The Dambusters was truly a great movie and it was based on a real event. The book is great also but the authentic footage from the movie is amazing. What I loved about The Dam Busters, was how by pure invention and applying the hydrodynamics of skipping a stone accross a pond, a whole new method of delivering just the right amount of explosive in just the right place to deal a devastating blow to the enemy and do it in the dark while being shot at and do it not once but 3 times.

K@H:

I respectfully submit, your analysis doesn't hold water. Saudi Arabia isn't worried about competition from Russia. Their real fear is new technology that is enabling the US to take market share away from them.

"Though OPEC and Saudi oil ministers have denied it, the decision last November that sent global oil prices into a tumble was interpreted as a way to undercut U.S. shale oil producers.
Just before OPEC made its announcement, the "shale revolution" in North America — spurred by improved techniques in hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling — pushed U.S. output past Saudi Arabia as the world's No. 1 producer of liquid petroleum.

Since production costs are higher for North American companies than they are for Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf oil giants such as the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Qatar, the OPEC strategy made sense.

While U.S. producers are feeling some pain, energy analysts have marveled at their resiliency and Faulkner thinks shale can eventually beat OPEC countries.

"I think they expected us to be already in a serious situation when they drove down the price of oil, but frankly, it hasn't happened," Faulkner said. "We're doing a lot more with a lot less. We're able to develop the assets at a much cheaper cost now. So I think what they've done is, they've put us through an exercise that has been very beneficial for us and that long term will hurt them."

Strategic Petroleum Reserve Oil Sale

What do you think is the reason the cost of oil has plummeted?

Strategic Petroleum Reserve Oil Sale

I think this is possibly the worst time to sell oil from the SPR. If they wait a year oil will probably by over $70. a barrel and they can get nearly double what it would bring now. Saudi Arabia is already feeling the pinch from the low prices they created, they are facing defaulting on their debt already, it's just a matter of time before they have to stop flooding the market and allow the price to rise.

RE: Do you take time at least once to thank God

My father was a man, not some make believe imaginary invention of some ignorant sheep herders wrapped in bed sheets living in tents in the Middle East. I have nothing to thank this non existent "whatever" for!

The sooner you stop putting your hope and faith and dependence on some made up figure and stand on your own 2 feet and make your own decisions to improve your existence, the sooner you'll be rewarded with a fruitful life. Just like lotteries are designed to fleece the poor and uneducated, so too are religions designed to extract wealth from people who have been terrorized into thinking if they don't cow tow to the organization they are doomed to spend a billion years engulfed in flame. Talk about the punishment fitting the crime, this alone proves just how incredibly unfair this so called "god" was made to be!

Strategic Petroleum Reserve Oil Sale

I find that figure hard to believe unless they were getting it at a huge discount from the price refiners were paying for it.

Strategic Petroleum Reserve Oil Sale

The congress has decided to sell oil for the SPR to cover the cost of the proposed budget.

I guess they never got the memo from Wall Street that you're supposed to "Buy low/Sell High".dunno
While oil is at a historically low price they should be buying oil, not selling it.
When George Bush was president he was buying oil for the SPR like a mad man and we were paying over $100. a barrel. He single handedly drove up the price of oil and hence, gasoline by trying to fill the SPR at the worst possible time. There was not much mystery why he was doing it. He was/is an oil man and high oil prices meant he would make a boatload of money. Many people believe his invasion of Iraq had the same effect by making it impossible for Saddam to bring his oil to market, thus reducing the supply which as we all know drives the price of a commodity upward.

Old B/W WW2 war movies

I think these movies provided a realistic view of what WW2 was about. No smart bombs or jet aircraft or drones. Everything was mechanical and hands on.

Old B/W WW2 war movies

"Sahara" with Humphrey Bogart was another great movie. I loved Lloyd Bridges trying to speak with an English accent it was so bad it was hilarious. I have Sahara on a VHS tape I call my desart tape. It also includes "Ice Cold in Alex" and "5 Graves to Cairo" with Eric Von Stroheim playing Erwin Rommel. 3 great movies.

Old B/W WW2 war movies

This is a favorite genre of mine having seen very many of them. One of my favs is "I was Monty's Double". I may be one of the few Americans who ever saw this movie and also one of the few of any nationality who actually owns a copy. I recorded it off the TV decades ago if it's even still viewable.

RE: It’s Sunday! Happy TWD Day!

"Dawn of the Dead" is a fav movie of mine but not sure if or how it relates to the series as like pedal, I've never seen an episode and probably wont either.

Trump will never be President

Trump has slid into 2nd place in the latest CNN poll. Ben Carson is now in first place.
The problem for Trump is he has insulted so many people, nobody will come to his defense if the going gets tough for him. He is standing alone.

Unintended consequences

Thanks for your research purr4mance!handshake
People need to know who this guy is.

Correction: It was another "Loved" Repub that faced a recall, Scott Walker, not Paul Ryan.

Here's another hypocritical aspect of Paul Ryan. He is opposed to unions...except when it adversely affects his families construction business.

Unintended consequences

I never liked John Boehner the speaker of the House of Representatives! When he announced his decision to retire at the end of October, I was joyous. I thought, finally maybe now the congress can come together and much needed legislation can get accomplished. Maybe now this destructive division in government can finally be welded together. Democrats and Republicans can finally work together for the betterment of the people instead of the net worth of politicians. My hope was that the Majority party which gets to choose the speaker would pick someone who could work with the entire House.

My joy and hopes have been pretty much shot down. The Republicans are hoping to replace Boehner with Paul Ryan.

Paul Ryan, The congressman who was so loved by the citizens of his home state of Wisconsin, they tried to fire him in a recall election. Choosing him as a Vice Presidential running mate, IMO cost Mitt Romney the Presidency.

Democrats hate him!!!!

RE: Democratic Debate: Was Hillary favored?

What struck me about the debate was how united the Dems are compared to the GOP candidates. The Repubs are embroiled in a self destructive civil war with all the different wings of the party trying to kill each other. I've never seen the Republican party so divided in my life. It's like a dog & pony show.

I think it was a Hillery/Sanders triumph with a couple of the lesser known candidates making some very good points. I was very disappointed with Jim Webb. I think he should pull out of the race, he's just not Presidential material. Joe Biden, IMO, has waited too long to enter the race, he must not want the job and as such, I wouldn't want a man who can't make up his mind about whether or not he even wants the job which I don't think he does. You should have to lust after the job and he doesn't seem to have that "fire in the belly".

Boycott Palm Oil and everything it's used in

I was totally unaware these Palm oil producers were using slash & burn to clear rain forests and killing endangered species to establish Palm oil plantations. I thought rain forest destruction was only happening in South America.
