You are fortunate to get to travel or have traveled many places, that others only dream of.

My 2 trips into Mexico, was the only time I can remember being outside my country.

I think when I was just a tot (age less than 4 years old), I think I crossed over into Canada with parents... but too young to even notice.

Then the closest I got to Cuba, was when I visited briefly, in Key West, Fl (90 miles between them).

NOTE: Reference "squirrels & tomato plants"....:
With efforts of keeping the squirrels at bay, and tending to my tomato plants, this morning out of the 2 hanging planters.... I counted a total of 20 tomatoes, at various stages of growth. I had a sandwich from one yesterday, and there is nothing like the taste of "your own grown" tomato...
Have a good day...

You may have to Google the recipe, there are so many different combinations of ingredients.

Not sure I've seen it at the grocery store either. May have to just make it yourself.

My recipe:
Mix your cornbread ingredients as usual....
Then just add your Jalapeno peppers, shredded cheddar cheese, whole kernel or cream style corn....
Then put into the oven, just as you would your regular cornbread.
NOTE: I did add a few bacon bits, and 1 small diced white onion... (not required)

Try it, and let me know how it turned out for you.

Well, if you love hot food, you should give it a try. And you can use your on judgement as far as how hot you want it.... Goes good with all kinds of beans.... Good crumbled up in chili, and some soups... Give it a try...

I agree, field grown seems to have the flavors that the other don't contain. It's interesting to read of our differences in something so simple as "tomatoes"..... And the winter season for increase in prices... I understand very well. I think that is true most places. I like the Roma, simply for it's size. I can take one of those, and make a sandwich, with nothing left over... unlike the larger ones.

Back in the mid 80's ( I think), My 2nd wife and I took a vacation. I went back to Colorado for a few days. Then we worked our way down the Texas border till we reached McAllen, Tx. We crossed over into Mexico in 2 different places. COMPLETELY different world. The first time I crossed over, right in the middle of some little town, with the beat up old yellow bus (taxi) picking up people and letting them off. STUPID me, should have known better... BUT as I was approaching an intersection, (sight seeing, being an obvious tourist).... AND not recognizing the RED octagonal shape sign "ALTO".... I ran right through it, without stopping!!!!!! I was lucky there were no traffic police there.... Whew! Close one... I started thinking "99 years in solitude"..... NO! NO!.... I got the heck out of there, before I did really get caught at something I was stupid about.... That was my memory of your country, but it was beautiful, and above all... interesting.

WOW.... 6 lbs of Roma tomatoes for 80¢ US Dollar? Damn, here in my local store is a minimum of $1.49 per lb, and sometimes a "special price" at 99¢ per lb. Wow, 6 lbs here would be anywhere between $5.94 to $8.94 PLUS 9% tax... And I love tomatoes as you remember from my other thread of the squirrels issues... Fixing to have a tomato sandwich for supper. If only they were .80 per 6lbs here! That would be 13.3 cents per lb....

Interesting conversation, and information from you.

Good.
One of my favorite foods, is Mexican foods.
Taco Bell is almost a joke....
Way many years ago, back in the early 80's, I was fortunate enough to be invited to a, then girlfriend's family reunion. I was living in Colorado Springs, and the reunion was in Alamosa, Co. I was treated to dinner by her great grandmother (90+years of age), which consisted of original homemade chili (which was clear in color). That was the best meal I ever had, and never forgot it.

I guess that helps to explain my liking of spicy foods.

To: lifeisadream....

History of Mexican Cornbread

Although it is impossible to put a precise date on origins Mexican cornbread, it is often posited that this bread predates the arrival of European settlers in North America and would probably have been a staple food of the indigenous people of Mexico and North America for centuries, if not longer. Other sources claim that while corn would have been ground up and used in local cooking, it wasn’t until the arrival of Europeans and their food technology that Mexican cornbread as we recognize it today was first made.

Mexican Corn Bread Ingredients

Part of the appeal of Mexican cornbread, other than its fantastic taste, lies in the ease and simplicity with which it can be made. Although there are literally dozens of variations of cornbread each with slightly different ingredients, all types of Mexican cornbread contain the same basic four ingredients: Cornmeal, milk, eggs and cooking oil. Beyond these basic ingredients all sorts of flavors can be added by adding things such as onions, cheese, pepper or sugar.

Mexican Cornbread on steroids...

Well, I didn't name it, so I have no idea of it's origin... but now that you brought it up... I just might Google it now.

"Steroids" is a descriptive word I used for the addition of the other ingredients, that are somewhat of an enhanced heat factor (with the exception of the bacon bits)....

Anything else lifeisadream?
Question: Why "lifeisadream"?

~JOHN~

Mexican Cornbread on steroids...

OK, would like to know how it worked for you...

Then the Jalapeno peppers might not be a good idea either... unless you use a bare minimum of them (maybe a pinch).. But, just use what you would think is good for you...

Mexican Cornbread on steroids...

Hi CC...
It's really easy... just fix you cornbread as usual, BUT.... also include shredded cheddar cheese, whole kernel corn, jalapeno (chopped/sliced) pepper. Just add the amount of extra ingredients to your likings....

I think next time I will chop up a small white onion, and add it. I like the white, because of the heat taste...

Let me know how it works out for you, CC....

Mexican cornbread is in the oven, and the butter is sitting on the side, ready to be "slapped & swabbed" on top of said muffin, when done. umm, ummm

Made a little adjustment to said recipe. Instead of using regular "whole kernel corn", I substituted for "whole kernel corn WITH small chopped/diced red & green bell peppers", PLUS I threw in a few small "pinches" of bacon bits in the mix.... tada!

Rose and her friends?

hmmmmm, that does give me an idea....

" in the middle of my shaded little garden spot, there could be a low-slung hammock with side table for my iced tea, and snacks... and a soft spot for my dear 4-legged friend, named GURL to lay at my side, and share in the cool fragranced breeze blowing across our senses...hmmmmm well, thanks for at least the mental image. hahaha

Have a great day, 2girlsnocup....

Rose and her friends?

Thanks Peachmelba, wild flowers look good too...

I have so many (8) different rose bushes... to rename them... I'd have to go out and look at the tags again... I should write them down (for reference)... I have red(2), yellow(2), white, orange, pinkish, crimson.

Also, in my arsenal of plants is several Daylilies, red & white mixed Hibiscus (8-10 inch budding), Japanese Frog Lily (still waiting on it to bloom), and several different colors of Gladiolus.

~JOHN~wave

Rose and her friends?

Is that one of your plants, Jean?
It's beautiful.... I've seen pictures of "mixed" colors, but didn't plant any this year. This is my first year at planting anything. I have others posted here as well.

Rose and her friends?

Thank you Jean..... hug

Rose and her friends?

Sunday morning 7/13/2014

I like to call this one " Rose And Her Circle Of 6 Friends"
The upper right of picture, is the main rose, and you will notice she has 6 unbudded flowers circling around her. Is it for friendship (since yellow roses are for "friends") or is it for protecting the mother rose from harmful elements? You tell me! hahaha

RE: Looking for some ideas.

My mother passed away with CHF.... there are so many ways to answer your question, which is going to be so varied, from different people. And as you probably know... what might work for one person, may not be the answer for someone else.

My suggestion would be to Google your question.Use keywords to what you are searching for... there, I'm sure you will retrieve tons of ideas....

Good luck, and God bless you and yours.

Pestering Squirrels...

Well, I guess I have made a ton of the scream over the years... and didn't think anything of it.... what a shame... huh? But they sure were good....

7/11/14 Morning Pics of my Flowers....

She is a rescue dog, that I got about 6 weeks ago... and she has settled in just fine. She loves to have her belly rubbed... she'll close her eyes, and seems so peaceful, while rubbing her belly.

I have this tendency to spoil her with , scrambled eggs and meat, with a mixture of Kibble and Bits for breakfast, w/ desert afterwards.... then for supper, I make sure she has a good helping of home cooked meals ( i mix it up a bit), and desert afterwards too... yep, she will end up being spoiled.
