If what is obvious isn't obvious to him , then you have to make it very bluntly obvious to him.
Some people simply can't read unsaid signs. These need to then be verbalised, and verbalised in such a way that they are left in no doubt as to the meaning.
I rarely have any contact with scammers I keep my settings tight, and if the occasional one slips through, I know by their first email so don't engage with them. The site does have responsibility to block them, but so do we.
