Certainly no country is looking towards the leadership there for guidance. There are much better countries to looking towards. Taiwan and South Korea spring to mind.
I think it's been a long time since the rest of the world looked towards the US for leadership.
When I was young, America was seen as the good guy. The one to look up to. That is certainly not the case anymore. They have lost the respect of the world in recent times.
Strangely enough, it was his appearance guest host on Have I got news for You that bolstered his ratings years ago when he was slipping into t obscurity.
