My grandfather ate all the wrong things. Red meat with plenty of fat, dairy butter, eggs, cheese, white bread and very little veges. On top of it he smoked 20 cigarettes per day. And he died...
He died at the age of 96 and was it not for the cancer, the old geezer would still have been alive.
My grandmother, who had the same eating habits, but did not smoke, lived to be 102. She died while under sedation after falling down the staircase. If that did not happen...
I'm yet to meet a couple who, when walking down the aisle, said, 'What we want is three years of happiness, two years of torment, a messy divorce and 15 years of fighting over custody of the kids.'
Yet, you cannot leave them cooped up with each other; it will improve the divorce rate, but will run havoc with murder stats!
Once a fella was given life for killing a guy. After twenty years he was paroled and discovered that the guy that he was supposed to have killed were living in another town under a different name. He then really killed the guy and went to the gallows. Punished twice for murdering the same guy; and rightly so.
You still have to be found guilty in a court again. Having been convicted of felony does not make you guilty by default if a similar crime was committed.
Do you see what you have done? I asked you very nicely to leave this topic for a few weeks. There are things underfoot that you will not understand now. This is not the way to treat your friend, even if you are upset with me.
No, I don't think he was involved in this, Guzman.
We had an argument about this and now this fella is now upset with me. He’s trying to annoy me with this poll. Granted, Paul Kruger did some things wrong, like giving all the business concessions to his friends and family, but he did not steal the state’s money. He did travel around with lots of gold bullion and minted coins, but that was to pay his soldiers. Quite a few mercenaries too. French, German, Spanish and even a few Russians. Some with rank.
They were fighting a guerrilla war and he damn well could not pay them with cheques. The entire economy was destroyed. Only the gold mines were operating, mostly secretly. They had to buy food through Mozambique. With gold!
Of course we know it was not her fault, but I would have asked the same question. Just to retain some sort of impartiality. I don't think he doubted her for a minute and she was probably primed for the question.
It is most frustating when a thread gets hijacked for a senseless. chit chat. I am a big supporter of freedom of expression, but there are places where these people can chat. I will suppress those irrelavent comments and if they persist with it I will block them; without feeling guilty.
It would be wrong though to take such action to suppress opinions you don't like.
Luke, yes, but not in the usual way. I wonder where it comes from; what gave rise to it. For an instance, I always thought your's may be your own name, Of course we know better now. Mine did not drop out of the air, so to me it stands to reason that it is like that with most. I often look at a profile; triggered by the name; trying to work it out! I suppose I'm too much of an analist!
Yes, it is an option and it is anybody's choice to exercise that option, but then make a neutral statement that won’t invite reaction. Like ‘I will be out of town for a few days; see you when I come back’. No comments needed or invited.
Don’t hide behind an option button if you want to make inaccurate or controversial one sided statements that will invite comments.
When I was a kid I ran faster than most; even much bigger boys. I often pulled faces at the older boys and ran off; to the delight of everybody. They used to dare me to take on bullies as well. One day one of them caught me …
Thirty three years ago my wife did something I could not reconcile myself with and I left her. Two years after the divorce she asked me for forgiveness and we gave it a new try. Another year later she did the same thing and I left for good. I’m friends with her today, but I could never trust her again.
Not at all, but they do create an expectancy and expectancy is the root of all heartache! Or joy; depending upon whether reality meets the expectation or not.
Yes, it was a very advanced weather balloon. Capable of interstellar travel at several times the speed of light.
Actually the best one I heard was that it was an experimental Russian craft filled with deformed children and midgets, crashed on purpose; with the intent of confusing and panicking the Americans with the charred remains of the passengers.
Another thing! Scientists have been looking for 'the missing link' (between man and ape) for very long now. Maybe 'the missing link' went back to where they came from after trying a few apes! Abandoned their offspring as being ugly and stupid!
A new conspiracy theory? I must think about this one.
Yes, with all the millions and millions of stars out there it is much more than likely that life evolved elsewhere. As you said, it is also very likely to be entirely different life forms. Carbon based, silicon based, or simply energy fields, you name it. Or perhaps very similar to earth, but not dominated by apes! People always suspect reptiles, but even goats could have evolved better in different conditions.
However, I do believe that the distances between us forbids contact, unless they have much better technology than us, which is also possible.
There is plenty of evidence that points to being visited before. Things like cave paintings depicting flying objects. Even the Greek and Germanic gods suggest something fishy! They certainly did not act like gods!
RE: A good and just god does not punish'
God does not punish; He merely metes out justice. The punishment comes later; after the judgement.
