Congratulations to the SNP. This working class version of the Labour party would have done very well wrong in England, too. The Cosmopolitan/Hipster-Left has taken a real kicking in this election(both Labour and Lib Dem)despite the increasing population of immigrants and the Tories being in power.
I'm relieved that the Tories have stayed in for lack of a better option(as always). And UKIP are disappointingly underrepresented: 4 million votes translating into only one seat.
Maybe we're even luckier not be the most privileged and propped up of all for the perspective and appreciation that it gives to us. Baby Boomers almost never express gratitude for having it easier than any Human Being to have ever walked the face of the earth, so how happy can they really be when they appreciate nothing? Pew Research indicates that Baby Boomers are the unhappiest and most malcontented of all generations, and yet Humanity has never had it so good and easy as them. Strange.

Well, when the Baby Boomers finish spending other people's money(their parent's and children's money)on entitlements and teaching the world to sing, then you'll have to face up to the reality of who people really are. You will find that your altruism and civility is not reciprocated by your ethnic friends(barring highly-evolved Orientals, but even here Oriental altruism is safeguarded by Nationalism and tight borders - e.g. Japan: the only non-white welfare state worth talking about).

To care about your image and reputation in the eyes of a complete stranger can be vain and pretentious. There are those who are sincerely polite in the mistaken belief that this softens the blow of rejection, but then there are those who will be polite because they want to be liked by you even though they don't even like you(which is narcissism).
I don't see it that way, although I will write back if a girl says something interesting, I find it unnecessary and kinda vain to say 'thanks but no thanks' on a dating site. This feels like excess politeness which feels like charity, but she is not a beggar and I am not the King, so I'd rather say nothing than vainly talk down to her.
Anyway, are you sure you're not just upset because you're being rejected and the manner of rejection isn't really the point?
Admittedly these ranks are thinning out now with the "squeezed" middle we hear so much about. Our economy is slowly but surely squeezing out all the unnecessary chiefs from the days where almost any moron could be middle class. To me that means over-educated and materially resourceless.
Imo this saying fits best the aristocratic folks from our purported middle class: those who have credentialised into existence a status for themselves that they feel they deserve as a birthright, but in actuality they do little or nothing that's worth doing or in any way warrants their being middle class.

You work out who you like and then you pretend not to like them - this is basically how modern dating works. Yet there are critical differences between feigned indifference and a genuine lack of interest: for example one of these will never come to wash your underpants.
Yes and no. We have so many choices and so many options today - or at the least the impression of having options - that people don't invest the time and resources into one option that they once did.
However, the fickleness and indecision of this irritates me personally. And I know that carrying on like this leaves many of us nailed to the shelf, so when a special girl comes along I can and do throw out the rule book, act decisively, and replace the shifting sands of intangible and multitudinous options with a fixed goal.

Same as anywhere online: Having to write instead of speak, no way of validating what anyone says, no face to face contact.. All in all it's the fact that the online world is so different to real life that it makes any conclusions you draw about individuals online almost bound to be wrong.

I can see reasons why people do it but it pisses me off that it's now a "thing" to befriend your ex. This reeks of vanity and shallowness on one side and weakness on the other. The one doing the dumping is too hollow and shameless to feel guilty and the dumped is too insecure to really let go.
