can you be a muslim and british?

this poll was nothing to do with extremism or anything of that nature at all, it was as i said, just to see what people thought of muslims and a British identity.

As you said there are extremists in every religion and even in non religious groups, the red brigade in Italy, Bader Meinhoff in Germany, the shining path in Peru etc...

can you be a muslim and british?

Hmmm seems like the ignorant sheep who follow other sheep blindly have been brought out by this poll, judging from some of the comments, such as winthrop etc. (How many 'savage' aborigines were murdered by the earky Australian settlers? who were the savages in that context?)

As they say don't judge a book by its cover, so don't judge every muslim by the actions of a very tiny minority.
would you judge all catholics across the world by the actions of the IRA in ireland?
I happen to have had a relative murdered by the IRA in the 70's but that doesn't mean i judge all irish or all catholics as terrorists.

Some people need to read up on Islam (try reading an english translation of the quran) before they start to spout ignorance.

can you be a muslim and british?

It should never be an issue of country before faith.
Your political persuasion should have nothing to do with your religion, thats like saying if your catholic you should not be voting lib Dem!

There is no logic to your argument.

can you be a muslim and british?

As always you speak sense...:)

can you be a muslim and british?

I do apologise for not making the options as comprehensive as i should have.

I thought I had covered most options but maybe i haven't.

can you be a muslim and british?

I am finding the poll more interesting, even though only 8 people have taken it at the moment.

can you be a muslim and british?

Your parents do not have to be muslim for you to be a muslim, I think that can be said for any religion (except Judaism I believe), your parents do not have to be muslim for you to accept any religion (or none).

I posted this poll because i have many friends that were not born muslims but became muslims of their own accord (not through any proselytising on my part i might add!)and their heritage has been from the United Kingdom, be it Irish or English or Scottish or Welsh.
I wanted to see how people percieve British identity an also how people perceive Muslims.

can you be a muslim and british?

I have seen the book you mention, they now have to pass a test on it called the 'life in Britain' test.
I wonder how many so-called flag waving 'native' brits would pass the test? (not that many I suspect).

can you be a muslim and british?

Jean I fully agree with you personally.
I have lived and worked in the States and was never made to feel unwelcome in any way.
I put this poll up just to see how many different shades of opinion there are out there.
