yes! that would be "California", it is home for everyone in the whole world to enjoy. conversing

Living in Florida

Well, a rocky start but not a disaster. I have lived here in Portland Oregon over 50 years and it is a lot different even in the last 5-10 years. Plenty of things here I don't much care for, one being the rocketing property taxes and the huge increase in people flocking here from other places because a few years back one of our "people in charge" pretty much invited everyone that was without to get a tent or box and kick back and light up a "doobie" while you forget your worries. Now that might seen pretty great unless you are on the other side of the equation and your own quality of life and scenery, even safety plummets. No doubt that Portland will have some lessons learned while it reevaluates what it has become. But even without all that I have other reasons I won't go into that brings me to Florida. LA California would be the other but it is definitely 4 times the cost of what it is here or more. Florida has many places I can pick up for less than half of what I have now and instead of being 100 plus years old and kinda small for my tastes I can get into a newer home that is built better to withstand certain weather though some is going to get you either way... another reason I wanted to hear the positive side from some that live there now. I know there is in fact a very positive side to living in Florida and like all places it takes time to learn the ropes. I hope that some good replies come forward, thx

Living in Florida

It was suggested to me that I move to Florida and leave the West Coast behind. I have been there, "Florida" once but that was awhile ago and I am sure i barely saw or experienced but a small portion of it. I would buy a home there and do the same things I do here though maybe I would be exposed to some things or lifestyles that are new to me... I don't know. i like to play music so there is that. I have been a Hairstylist for decades so I would probably transfer my License and so on. I am not really planning on working too much but I think it can be good to stay busy. I think what I am looking for is the positive input from some people that have lived there for a long time and since it really is a big move, if i do this... and I have been looking at a lot of property and I am planning on visiting there in the near future so I can just get around and do what I can to imagine I am there and what place is good (or not) and that kind of stuff. I was thinking mid state and not on the East Beach but on the side that is on the inner coast that faces west. I imagine there is a name for all these things but I haven't learned them yet. cheers cool guitar

RE: Coincidence, does it excist?

I have one and though it was in 2005 it has remained a prominent memory though I would not suggest it was more than something I happen to notice in that special time of my life (pre-CS). While Flying back to the USA from a memorable stay in Budapest, Hungary I had this experience. Of course by this point I had changed planes and was entering airspace above the USA (several hours). I had been speaking with the person seated next to me, while taking pictures of the clouds out the window and exchanged a series of very uplifting and soulful experiences and as she was going to be staying in the city we were getting ready to touch down in (I think it was Minneapolis), as we taxi'd towards the gate she handed me a "card", like a business card but it just had the letters "HU" on it and after I asked she explained that in Eckankar that is what is chanted and is the word for "God". As it is also the abbreviation or code for "Hungary" I suddenly had that feeling of when things are just a bit more than a coincidence and of course it was at that time when I realized that nearly everyone seated in that area was also going to this Seminar and though I am not a follower of "Eck" I was very mush aware of what it is and had read a fair amount on it and so on. So as boring as all this may sound it was actually very elating at the time and felt as though my trip to Hungary was a very spiritual one. And I am also reminded of how a few months before that as I had boarded the plane at PDX on my way out of the USA I also felt as though I was going home for the first time and had a unexplained feeling of peace and serenity. Well, it is always nice to stop in and see who is around (here on CS) and so on. I am off on another mission before it snows. (present time) lol I hope everyone is having a good time and that those of you that are in search of something may somehow be pleasantly surprised in this new year.

RE: American Politics belong on the USA forums

Wow!!! I just had a flashback of some pretty (old) wild threads. It really has changed, and not just once but evolved several times and it does always seem like some things have a way of remaining in the mix.

RE: What country would you like to visit while taking your two week vacation?

I guess for two weeks I would go scuba diving in Mexico non stop. maybe Cozumel. But really even though it is not on the list I would do the same but in Hawaii. If I had 2 Months I would definitely have some very different places that I would go. I don't like to just go for a short time.

RE: Share A Poem..

"I'm nobody! Who are you?"
(Emily Dickinson)

I'm nobody! Who are you?

Are you nobody, too?

Then there's a pair of us -- don't tell!

They'd banish us, you know.
How dreary to be somebody!

How public, like a frog

To tell your name the livelong day

To an admiring bog!

I came across this when doing a search "this was like the opposite of what my query was" but my place is second on the list, not sure why they mention "kids" since there is so much going on for grown ups but I guess it is also true. Just so easy to get around for people, even if they don't have a car. I am not ready to give mine up but I think there are some pretty hard core minimalists and actually just all kinds here. You never know who you will run into! But here>> this one really is a sell on Portland.

lol, I am glad but that one didn't really show so much, this one is looking at Portland City from the same bridge there close to my place. How about I just come and pick you up and we can fly back together! ;-}

Promise I will, I need to do that sharing a bit more!

here is a pic from a walk two days ago. It is looking back towards where my house is (behind all those trees "a park") and then my house. But you can see there is a lot of different things so close... even the city center close but not in your face type close. lol There are tennis courts and a pool in that park and a lot of trees with nice large clearings for things like outside movies and then closer to the water below they have outside music on the hot evenings and other things.

yay!

RE: Some people feel that having an open mind is healthy, but is too much of one a good or bad thing?

I think that in the current climate it is a pretty broad statement and means so many different things to too many different people. And with all the changes a person might seem open minded in one area and absolutely indifferent in other areas to what some might consider being open minded.

It has been about 9 years for me so I know exactly what you mean. LOL.. even tonight I am going to see a band but that is with me nephew! At least he and I like some of the same music so I don't go alone. I could, but at some point it lost the appeal to go to many of these events without sharing them with someone. And again I am not even going to go into the "dating" bit. I know it could all change but I have not had even a glimpse or that feeling as though something is about to surprise me. I am at (or close) that point of cashing in and doing some things while the desire is still real and seems like fun. Must be something to do I would think! ;-}

no, not "doomed", but like I just posted it does seem like more and more people are with very different standards and not for the "better" it seems. Just like they have their heads buried in their cell phone as they walk boldly into oncoming traffic! LOL>.. and in amazement I see them untouched.... or maybe that is an illusion. wave

I agree though I have to say that even in person I have found that there are so many people that are incredibly more and more like what I have seen online and of course some of the early days where many of the bars were also mental institutions. Now it seems like we are in a very different world. To meet a genuine person to interact with even on a casual friend basis seems like something that is lost to what we call the World today. But, I think that hopefully there are a few of us out there that are not living some alternate universe....but so far I can not say who they are. (not kidding at all)

uh oh

Yeah, that is pretty easy to do actually. lol I have done it at least 3 times I think grin

RE: Anonymous messages

I have only seen the thread tonight, I will have to think about that one I would say.

RE: Why do women always expect the guy to travel to them and or pay.

I was in this situation but always paid my way. I sometimes was offered a place to stay and sometimes just got my own. This question would not even come up some time ago... even 10-15years ago it was not the same. But today things have crossed certain lines and for me it seems even harder to tell who is sincere and though I consider myself to be somewhat intuitive I also have been a bit of an optimist and that I think might have clouded my judgement in the past.

I think that in the current time it is still probably best to do what is comfortable by both individuals and when the time come hopefully it will not all be in vain. I know that if one or even both are really feeling the emotion (and that is not unusual) then it is even easier to get yourself in a predicament.

RE: Hair cut

As a "actual" real life Hairstylist and Barber to both Men and Women I can tell one thing for sure. Texting or talking on the phone while getting your hair done is one of the stupidest things a person can do. For one it is rude, secondly you may not hear the stylist/barber asking you a really important question like "did you say you say you wanted the oil treatment on your hair or that you would like to be "bald" this time for your haircut"... Also the fact you move around and unaware once again risking some crazy miscommunications about the hair. Well, no doubt there are people that disagree but being in the business plenty of years I think my opinion holds a lot of validity and will help avoid tears.

RE: Why do people complicate things?

Over the time I have seen members do this,,,, sometimes they do it so they are not approachable and do not want to bother with the mail,, some choose to do what they can to keep their history in the threads less attainable till they are back online. Many reasons one, but it is something that I have seen both men and women do as well. By the way. the thread topic is a good question and there is a lot more to be said once we delve into the reasons why "people" do complicate things, and many times without even being aware of it. I would not take the "hidden" profiles to personal... I know though in first hand that I unintentionally made some bad moves by hiding mine when I was talking to someone many years ago.... So, I do relate.

RE: What would u like to do with the rest of ur life ?

I think since I am not quite to that "middle" point yet I might not be positively on the mark but I am thinking that I would probably do best being some kind of celebrity in the media... maybe comedy... I love comedy, and the music I also Love very much.... So something like that I think is a good idea.
thumbs up

RE: Why do people complicate things?

I guess I did misunderstand,,,, do you mean to say that you would possibly get on a plane to the Netherlands or the USA and meet up with someone you were interested in even though you had not met with them except for some email and possibly a phone call? Just curious as I try to keep myself from miscomprehending what others are talking about.

RE: Why do people complicate things?

I think in person meeting is preferable though if you have met someone far away then I think the Skype suddenly becomes the next best or one of the next best ways to get to know one another. Of course some people may simply prefer not to get involved with someone that far away. I have never really drawn a line like that.
wave "Hello", by the way. Long time it seems

RE: Why do people complicate things?

A bit warmer than usual and only a light rain if any for now.....but it actually looks like it will be even nicer in the upcoming week... But it is Oregon and the chance of a wet and cold month or two is not too far out there... I just hope we keep it a little more warmer if possible. lol
