It used to be like that here in Christchurch many years ago with young ladies at pubs wanting to know what job you had or type of car you drove or whether you went to a prestigious high school...if not up to standard they were after then you were ignored. I used to tell them, when asked what job I did, and my mates would have made out they were lawyers, doctors, police, firemen etc, I would say..."You know when you get to the end of the Glad Wrap roll and there is that sticker that tells you that you are about to run out? Well, I attach those for a job..." Or, I would tell them I attached cats eyes to the road for a living.... Not one did I have continue the conversation after that. Then, I went to London for my OE and suddenly these young ladies realised they were being left alone in pubs as Aussie ladies were keen for a chat and a beer and a flirt...it was amazing how quickly they lost their snobbiness when they realised guys didn't flock to them... So, what you are noticing is probably Aussie ladies whose mothers were originally from Christchurch...
