RE: Your Obsession!

Wow, that is amazing!

People say so ... Thank you Smoky ... I kinda take it for granted as they are the languages I use with my immediate family ... Spanish with my parents, French with my brothers and sister and English with my kids and grandkids

May be I need to just face to the fact that I am amazing!! rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing doh

RE: Your Obsession!

wave Yeah!! I was once told by the guy who runs one of the language research institutes in Switzeland that the mother tomgue is the one that one counts in ... Which is a bit weird for me as it doesn't match my nationality or the only language I spoke till I was 5 ... dunno Go figure!!!

RE: In how many cartons fits your "life" in?

In September I reduced the contents of a 3 bedroom family home with garage to fit into 5' x 7' x 8 including a table-tennis table and a four sleeper canvas tent and plenty of bubble wrap for protection of the other items I kept ... Once you take out the table, tent and bubble wrap I don't think there's that much left. Ah! And some of what's left are quite a few books ... It was hard but I don't regret it ... felt quite cleansing once I got over the initial shock as I watched all my stuff walking out the front or back door ... grin

RE: Your Obsession!

being a multilingual myself, i think that it is imposible to learn to speak any language better than your mother language because its the one with wich you where brought up with. Hence, it follows that its the language you have been tought during your young (infantile) years, when the brain is actually forming it self and perception, storage and other functions work a bit differently than they work in adulthood.

learning any language after your 20s, you can become very very fluent in it but you will never have the same correlations and *feeling-as-you-talk-what-you-are-talking-about* as you do with the language that you were brought up with. its just my humple oppinion and i know there are many other multilinguals here that could put their 2cents into this (Jan, FOS...).quote]

wave Hiya Manolito!!! Nice to see you back grin

I don't actually agree with you ...
My mother tongue is Spanish and we always spoke Spanish at home (still do when I visit my parents) ... but as we lived in France since I was one, I studied in French so my knowledge is greater in French than Spanish, with a more expanded vocabulary and to this day I always count, do calculations and work out change in French even after living in UK for 27 years ...
I moved to UK when I was 20 - having studied it since I was 11 yrs old - and brought my children up there (their father was English speaking), mostly in English because I couldn't make my mind up which language to speak to them in, as my parents and rest of family lived in France and spoke French but my grandparents and cousins lived in Spain and spoke Spanish. So we stuck to mostly English.
I would say that I have the vastest knowledge in English with the widest vocabulary out of all three languages. May be because I worked in education. Most English people can't even catch my very faint accent.
Basically, I think in English when I am in England/with English people and dream in English if the dream relates to English speakers.
I think in french when I am in France/with French people and dream in French if the dream relates to French speakers.
I think in Spanish when I am in Spain/with Spanish people and dream in Spanish if the dream relates to Spanish speakers.
But I always count in French laugh although I can hop from one language to the other whithout blinking - makes for amazing family/relatives reunions rolling on the floor laughing yay

RE: Trust

Hey!! Shiny Knight!! teddybear hug

My thoughts/feelings are that if their are any issues that may be need to be dealt with, when one is feeling depressed they feel/sound hundred times worse than they really are ... And may be when one is not in the "depressed" state we brush those under the carpet to concentrate on the "good bits" ... Your gut is still right because it's highlighting something that needs dealing with and keeps getting ignored ...

RE: What's the definition of "INDEFINITELY"?

indefinitely has no definition

RE: What's the definition of "INDEFINITELY"?

Before Spain was part of the EU I was given "permission" to remain in UK indefinitely which meant that the period of time I was allowed to stay was undefined IE had no limit IE for ever

For him to:

Be free

Not lie
Be financially solvent (can take care of himself)
Have a spiritual dimension (apparent in his everyday life)
Be fairly educated (not necesseraly Uni)
Be respected by his peers for who he is
Be emotionally mature
Feel good in his own skin
Feel happy with his life
Be layed back (opposite of intense)
Speak English and/or French/Spanish
Be looking for same in a partner/mate

grin

RE: After meeting on CS

applause How exciting!!!!! hug yay

RE: After meeting on CS

I say meet as quickly as possible because it's possible to let your imagination and illusion play tricks on you and "imagine the way a person is" from the phone exchanges/messages. The reality won't always match the illusion/imagined person ... Did that with someone for 5 months ... We didn't meet in the end because I realised there were too many things that didn't add up ...Took me 5 months to work it out though, whereas if we'd met sooner it would have become clear straight away ...

I started communicating with somebody else after and in my opinion and also this last experience ... it you get on with someone and their is common ground, meet as soon as possible. Then what you build together is real rather than a trick of the imagination/illusion.

It worked for me ... with a positive outcome!!! We're getting together again day after tomorrow for the second time hug
