Heaven is not a place nor a condition. It is merely an awareness of perfect Oneness, and the knowledge that there is nothing else; nothing outside this Oneness, and nothing else within."
Indeed, empathy does not always produce positive reactions. We can feel the happiness or distress of another, how we react to that feeling can be another matter. It could lead to feelings of envy, jealousy, resentment, or unworthiness, whereas compassion will always be fueled by love. As the Dalai Lama put it.......
"From my own limited experience, I have found that the greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion. . . Ultimately, the reason why love and compassion bring the greatest happiness is simply that our nature cherishes them above all else. The need for love lies at the very foundation of human existence. It results from the profound interdependence we all share with each other."
When feeling empathy for someone it doesn't necessarily follow that you will act to help them, . Empathy was sometimes referred to as sentimental compassion and what we call compassion was sometimes known as great compassion. Compassion is more likely to result in actions to improve the well being of someone who is believed to be suffering. Empathy, more often than not just results in feelings and not actions.
Not so much "found the light of day," more arrived in the media spotlight. As for saying he killed 25 taliban, I'm not sure that was a very smart admission. He' s really going to need that private security now....
No I don"t. But again the Buddha was very clear about this. He said, do not take my word for what I say. Like the goldsmiths at the market, test, check, see for yourself, I only give you my thoughts. But, as I've said many times on here, I'm not a practising buddhist.
RE: Mind training
Yes, at first there's a goal, but some are able to abandon that.
