RE: A love tune for all lost love

A Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel cover of a wonderful Roy Harper song....Another Day

"O really my dear I can't see what we fear, sat here with ourselves in between us."

Only Roy Harper could write a line like that.

RE: Movies, your favorite(s) and why?

Any film that has the line, "you can't fight in here, this is the war room, " has to be good.

RE: Should all drugs be legalized ?

Exactly, go upstream and find out why they're falling in the river.

thumbs up

RE: Should all drugs be legalized ?

I havn't read past your first sentence.

What part of "cigarettes and alcobol are drugs" don't you understand.

If the hysterical anti drug lobby could accept that many of those calling for tougher sentences for drug users are also drug users, maybe a sensible debate could take place and move things forward in the right direction.

RE: Should all drugs be legalized ?

We've seen over the years making drugs illegal does not work, it just creates criminals and crimnal behaviour. What would be a better approach would be trying to find out why so many people need to use so many drugs. Criminalising and jailing people who have become addicted to drugs is just not the answer. It's a bit like pulling countless people out of a river without bothering to go upstream to see why they're falling in.
It's not so much the use of drugs that's the problem, more the misuse and the most commonly misused drug by far is alcohol. The figures for alcohol related deaths and injuries are horrific, not to mention the damage to society that it causes.
Society has a drug problem, that's for sure, be it recreational or medicinal, but prohibition hasn't worked and probably never will.
A new approach has to be found, de-criminalisation has to be looked at and considered.

RE: Should all drugs be legalized ?

I think we're all surrounded by people heavily dependent on drugs. Casual recreational drug use in the norm in society, even you admit on your profile to occasionally taking a recreational drug.

RE: Name your favourite/most memoable MONDAY melodies....

The Boomtown Rats....I don't like Mondays.

Released in the summer of 1979 it spent four weeks at number one in the uk charts. Bob Geldof wrote the song after hearing about a school shooting.
"According to Geldof, he wrote the song after reading a telex report at Georgia State University's campus radio station, WRAS, on the shooting spree of 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer, who fired at children in a school playground at Grover Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego, California, on 29 January 1979, killing two adults and injuring eight children and one police officer. Spencer showed no remorse for her crime; her explanation for her actions was "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day"

Do you think it's ok to check peoples profiles and then state on here that they have a serious problem?
How do you suppose that will make them feel? A bit better?

RE: What is... Truth...?

Sorry to have confused you but to understand, or realise the two truths is not easy, it's extremely complex, especially when it come to ultimate or absolute truth. The fundamental difference is with conventional truth all things, or phenomena appear to mind as percieved by our five senses and that is how we make sense of the world. Ultimate truth however has to be seen from a completely different viewpoint. This viewpoint does not rely on our five senses alone and requires a level of awareness, or consciouness most of us, by and large rarely, if ever achieve.
We rely on logic and scientific proof to assure us the world is as we see and perceive it to be. This single minded way of looking at the world unfortunately closes off any opportunity which may allow us to become aware of the true nature of all phenomena, to experience what is sometimes known as 'emptiness.'
Many people have attained this higher level of awareness, (and I'm not saying I'm one of them) sometimes through psychotropic drugs or substances. Many tribes in Soth America still use powerful mind altering substances to attain a greater understanding of their world. Some use meditation to open the doors of the mind, some are just there to begin with, Einstein for instance.

If we can become fully aware of the fact that nothing, (no thing) can exist entirely from it's own side, we begin to get a slight grasp on the nature of emptiness and the true nature of all phenomena, but it does fly in the face of the way we have previously perceived our world.........

"What is reality? Dictionaries tell us that reality is "the state of things as they actually exist." In Mahayana Buddhism, reality is explained in the doctrine of the Two Truths.

This doctrine tells us that existence can be understood as both ultimate and conventional (or, absolute and relative). Conventional truth is how we usually see the world, a place full of diverse and distinctive things and beings. The ultimate truth is that there are no distinctive things or beings."

RE: Let’s Debate

Being spiritually aware is not necessarily a passport to pleasure, in fact it can be quite the opposite. There really are times when ignorance is bliss.

RE: love cures

Even the most intimate relationships have their ups and downs, moments of conflict and personal suffering. But this has nothing to do with love, more to do with things like judgement and blame , expectation and attachment, dependency and jealousy. It's not love that has created the emotional conflict, it has nothing to do with any kind of pain. Hurt is a product of the ego and when ego takes control there is no love.
It's only when love returns, the pain of conflict caused by the ego recedes, the hurt, or darkness cannot exist in the light of love.

RE: love cures

If it hurts, it's not love. Love cannot create hurt, it is the healer of hurt.

RE: What is... Truth...?

An enlightened person clearly sees there are two kinds of truth. The apparent conventional truth and the real or ultimate Truth. The ultimate Truth can be realized only through meditation, and not theorizing or speculating. The ultimate Truth cannot be realised through the five senses alone, it is a state of being or awarness.
