RE: Plant-based / vegan diet / foods - info from me and the why - what do you all think about it?

Yes and oh how they've perfected it over the eons. I have a plant called Floyd. He sits in my living room keeping me company and pumping out lovely fresh oxygen for me to breath. Me and Floyd are good pals, but I don't let him fool me. He like 99% of all plants is completely inedible. Friend or not, If I were to eat some of him I would become seriously ill and he would just carry on growing regarldess. Not that I would, he's a money tree, he's supposed to bloom cash, but I'm still waiting on this.....grin

I think it's worth noting that almost all animals can safely be eaten, whereas the same can most definitely not be said about plants......uh oh

RE: Plant-based / vegan diet / foods - info from me and the why - what do you all think about it?

Indeed. It seems they are being sold as an healthy option, where in fact they are not, it's just another form of junk food. The only positive aspect is that animals are not being killed in the process.....just the people who eat the stuff....laugh

RE: Plant-based / vegan diet / foods - info from me and the why - what do you all think about it?

The new craze for plant based 'healthy option' food has resulted in the supermarkets pushing ready made meals and plant based meat substitues that are just anther form of ultra processed junk food. In fact many nutritionists claim the plant based(new catchy way of saying vegan) ready meals and meat free products are even worse, as far as nutritional values are concerned than the equivalent meat varieties. This is mainly due to the high salt and or sugar content used to make the food palatable.
It's just another way of the food industry selling us a healthy lifestyle, or trying to convince us we can have our cake and eat it.

RE: Serial killers...

It would seem that by far the worst serial killer is our old friend God of the bible. With actual listed killings standing at 2,476,633 and total estimated killings of somewhere around 25 million, Satan is an angel by comparison with just 10 killings to his credit.

Sorry Satan, when it comes to serial killing, you're just an amateur.....devil

RE: Happy Cinco De Mayo!!!

Cinco de Mayo and the Titanic

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England .

In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico , which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York ..

This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico ..

But, as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York . The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.

The people of Mexico , who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss.

Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as -

Sinko De Mayo.

RE: what are acceptable crimes???

Some crimes are heinous, some are just daft, many are outdated....

As recently as 1986, it has been illegal to 'handle a salmon in suspicious circumstances' - which leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Under the Metropolitan Police Act 1839, for example, it is illegal for the 'keeper of a public house to permit drunkenness on premises', yet any pub-goer could swear they see that particular law being broken by millions of people each week.

And since 1939, it has been against the law to carry a plank along a pavement.

As of 1839, it has also been against the law to beat or shake any carpet or rug in the street. You can shake your doormat, however, but only before 8am in the morning.

More recently but no less puzzling...

As of 2004, 'no person shall import into England potatoes which he knows to be or has reasonable cause to suspect to be Polish potatoes'.

RE: Serial killers...

It's so sad, Winnie Johnson, mother of Kieth Bennett who was murdered by them died a few years ago having never found out where they had buried her son.
She knew she was dying and made one last impassioned plea to Brady before she died, "where's my Kieth?"she begged him to tell her, but the 'monster' refused and was never to disclose the location of his young victims final resting place.
The whole moors murders episode traumatised so many people from the area and had quite an effect on the nation as a whole at the time.

RE: Serial killers...

I used to deliver newspapers to the office where she worked. She would always come to the office door and take the papers from me, and always made some kind of comment that at the time didn't seem right. It was a few years later when I realised how close I could have been to being one of her and Brady's victims. A good friend of mine at the time was a cousin of Lesley Anne Downey, the little girl who was totured and killed by Brady and Hindley.
Strangely, Hindley, Brady and Shipman all came from Hyde in Greater Manchester

RE: Serial killers...

I met Myra Hindley on quite a few occasions in the early 60's, there was definitely something about her that made me feel.uneasy.

RE: Serial killers...

I think with 215 victims, Shipman must be up there as the most prolific. Lived just down the road from me at the time.

RE: Fun Forum...Maybe 'MAY' :D

Even though it's a very old English saying, it's still used today. If your were to say to someone, "it's cold today and we're in May." It wouldn't be uncommon for them to wag their finger at you, nod their head knowingly and reply, "ne'er cast a clout laddie, " particularly if they were an old person and from the north of England.

RE: Fun Forum...Maybe 'MAY' :D

Ever heard the old saying ‘Ne’er cast a clout till May be out’ ? It's a great old May saying, so I thought it might be interesting to look at what the old phrase actually means and what significance it has with us passing into the summer months now.

"First, if we take the ‘clout’ part; since around the 15th century the word ‘clout’ has had a few possible meanings. It could mean either a knock on the head, a clump of earth or a part of clothing or clothing itself’. For this ‘ne’er cast a clout’ we assume it to mean clothing, so taken as a phrase would simply mean ‘don’t take off or pack away your winter clothing until the end of May."

RE: Highlights of your place and or travels (if any)

Panama road trip 2011.

"Fancy meeting up in Panama City sometime?" asked my friend Gary. That was back in 2001 in Connecticut and it was over ten years later before we finally made it. Gary and his partner, Sarah had flown from Missouri to spend a month in Panama, something they do most years and I was going to join them for a couple of weeks for a quick tour of the country. He had a rented car and the idea was to spend as much time off the beaten track as possible. It was a great reunion at the airport as well as good to meet Sarah for the first time and before I knew it we were off on our little adventure.
We had to drive through Panama City shortly after leaving the airport and I was amazed at the impressive skyline, I didn't expect it to be so modern, almost futuristic looking. Soon we were through the city and free of the insane traffic, plans were afoot to build a bypass across the bay, I think that is now complete.
over the next day or two, we traveled around the Pacific side of the country and finally found a remote beach with small beach huts that could be rented by the day. This was heaven, right on the beach next to the ocean and almost deserted. To say the huts were a bit spartan would be an understatement, just a bed, not even a chair, or furniture of any description, but still heaven. we stayed there for five wonderful days before setting off for the Caribbean Sea on the other side of the country.
Panama is a country of two contrasting sides. The Pacific side is very hot and dry, with little humidity. Separated by a range of mountains known as 'the divide' the Caribbean side is very warm and sticky with high humidity and usually quite cloudy. We headed up into the mountains and stopped overnight at Boquete, a mountain town that attracts a lot of visitors. The crisp mountain air was quite a relief after the hot dry plains of the Pacific side and I really would have liked to have stayed for longer.
The next day we headed up to the top of the Divide before descending down through the low cloud and mist to the Caribbean.
We headed for Almirante so we could catch a ferry to the popular Island of Bocas del Toras where we would spend a few days swimming and snorkeling in the Caribbean sea. Leaving the car at Almirante we boarded a ferry for the delightful trip to Bocas. We arrived just before sundown and ambled around the lively town to find a guest house for the night.. It was a total contrast to where we had stayed on the Pacific coast in so many ways, but just as wonderful. Sadly, we could only spend a couple of days there before we had to head back, across the Divide, down into David then after a couple of days touring around small remote villages it was back to Panama City for a night before heading back to the airport to say my goodbyes to Gary and Sarah.

It really was a good trip.

RE: ~Love is Incapable of Asking For Anything~

I think it's more the value of rather than the purpose. The value is to live with the right and proper higher vibration, to cultivate (meditation) it, to recognise it, and be aware. When two people (energies) meet who are aligned with this vibration, magical things happen.

heart beating

RE: ~Love is Incapable of Asking For Anything~

As love is not an external energy it cannot be attained or aquired. That truth escapes us as we search for love, it ensures we will always fail. The association with love and romance only serves to strengthen the myth that love is something we can find outside ourselves...
to be aquired. This association teaches us that love is only possible when we find the right person....the 'one.'
The illusion is, that when found they will be the true source of love and our search is over....life is saved....Hallelujah!!!!
In reality, this will keep us looking in the wrong direction, outside and away from our self. Love is within us, it always is and it always was. We cant find what we already have.

The Dutch guesthouse owner in Jinja close to the source of the Nile. He had beaten the local Mayor to using the name 'Source of the Smile' much to the Mayor's annoyance as he intended to use it for his guesthouse.
