Try to avoid hitting people unless you know what you are doing, and even then its best avoided as it generally only escalates the problem.
A great number of homeless people, if not most, are mentally ill. Violence is not a good way of dealing with illness or disability, would you beat some one for having cancer?
Think about giving money to a registered homeless charity instead of giving to people on the street.
