RE: US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot point blank at public meeting

Better yet, if we have nothing constructive to add we could simply not post. This is an important issue to some. If it's not for you then don't participate. It's that simple..

RE: US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot point blank at public meeting

I've mentioned this before. There is a problem with both sides spewing the disrespectful rhetoric. Both are active players and both the far left and right have plenty of representatives with "the my way or the highway" attitude and/or the idea that one side or another is being victimized by the other as you mentioned. Perhaps the best thing they could do is start listening rather than running their mouths.

Thank God President Obama while acknowledging there is discourse between the political parties still managed to make it very clear there was no connection to that discourse and this event by saying

As far as this event goes, there is no connection between the political rhetoric and the actions of the murderer of these innocent people. " For the truth is that none of us can know exactly what triggered this vicious attack. None of us can know with any certainty what might have stopped those shots from being fired, or what thoughts lurked in the inner recesses of a violent man’s mind.

So yes, we must examine all the facts behind this tragedy. We cannot and will not be passive in the face of such violence. We should be willing to challenge old assumptions in order to lessen the prospects of violence in the future.

But what we can’t do is use this tragedy as one more occasion to turn on one another. As we discuss these issues, let each of us do so with a good dose of humility. Rather than pointing fingers or assigning blame, let us use this occasion to expand our moral imaginations, to listen to each other more carefully, to sharpen our instincts for empathy, and remind ourselves of all the ways our hopes and dreams are bound together."

While I certainly don't like President Obama's political philosophy, I do respect the man and the office he holds. He's just earned a lot more of my respect for doing nothing other than using common sense and a sense of fairness. Also, cudos to him for not allowing those on the far left to use this horrible event as a means to push a political agenda.

Thankscheers

RE: Guns and more guns.

What's Switzerlands crime/murder rate in comparison to the United States? If Switzerlands crime/murder rate is lower than the USA's and they have less crime then I guess that would indicate the USA needs more guns/responsible gun owners.

Quite frankly I think that's true based on the violent crime rates in states/cities throughout the US where guns are/are not strictly controlled, right to carry states. DC is a great example of strict gun control and high violent crime rates.

RE: 77 people dead

Was that for me or the person that started this thread?

RE: flooding in australia

Really glad you cleared this uprolling on the floor laughing

RE: flooding in australia

Difficult situation for you guys but I must say that I'm impressed with the way folks down there are reacting to this. A tough bunch with a great sense of community.

It's been said people are at their best when things are at their worst and it would seem our friends from down under are proving this to be correct.

My thoughts are with you guys. Hopefully all will be back to normal soon.

RE: US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot point blank at public meeting

Maybe not but it does show at least one thing all parties have in common i.e venom & BS.

RE: 77 people dead

I run an airline for a living. Planes crash for a variety of reasons. We don't even know the cause and you're already blaming an embargo. That would be the first time ever I saw that come out of an accident investigation.

Even with the embargo, the airline in question has a responsibility to fly people safely, if that wasn't possible, which I doubt, they would have the responsibility to cancel any flight where there were any safety concerns even if the safety problem was caused or exaserbated by any embargo.

I think we'll find there's a pretty clear reason as to why this plane crashed and we'll all sit in awe of your exercise regime i.e. "jumping" to conclusion and "running" off at the mouth with no knowledge.

In any case, ondolences to those lives lost in this accident and their families.

RE: Clarence Dupnik

Why can't all people from Spain be like Brits? dancing

RE: Clarence Dupnik

We all do that from time to time. And you're right, extreemism is poisoning a lot of people.

RE: The recovery of Gabrielle Giffords

Wow! The press is actually respecting someone's privacy. I doubt it..

RE: Clarence Dupnik

Not all but have been sucked in. If it were not so serious I'd laugh.

I believe some want the truth but at this point in time, especially with this incident the truth is not yet available. I'm sure we'll see in time but then there will still be those with their own opinions regardless of the facts. What's your truth with regard to this? All I see thus far are dead and injured people and a disturbed young man responsible.

I taught my son many of the things you mentioned but I hope I also conveyed the idea of seeking truth rather than basing his truth on the biased words of others.

RE: Clarence Dupnik

Yep, this kid was/is pretty screwed up according to the information currently available.

RE: The recovery of Gabrielle Giffords

Yeah, it's sad but is it just me or shouldn't the press be paying at least some attention to the others killed rather than focusing on only 2 or 3 of the victims.

RE: Here's a new one.

Somethings will never change Marisa devil

RE: The recovery of Gabrielle Giffords

I just hope she and all the other's hurt are able to fully recover. Wasted lives at the hands of an idiot, what a shame.

RE: Hand guns, should you be alowed to have one?

I don't think a smart politician would ever come out and say he/she will ban handguns for fear of commiting political suicide. Handgun ownership is not mandated in American, it's a choice and it along with other rights are guaranteed by our constitution.

How you come to the conclusion that Americans have proven themselves "not worthy" is beyond reason and speaks volumes as to your agenda.

RE: US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot point blank at public meeting

And we make her more and more popular with every post. Congrats...laugh

Hey Conrad, thanks. All is going well here and safe is always good. Happy New year to you...

RE: The truth about Obama

Hi HL, nice to see you too. I don't get on here much anymore as Afghanistan work keeps me busy but I still like to post now and then.

Yes, we differ a bit but we've always done it in a fair & polite manner. See you around...

RE: The truth about Obama

I'm no fan of President Obama. Seems like a nice enough guy but his politics are a lot different than mine. Even so, as much as I may enjoy seeing something negative about the man or his party, I think one needs to consider the source of these stories.

Jesse Ventura was once somewhat logical but he's become something of a laughing stock. As far as Alex Jones is concerned, I don't think he does anything other than dupe the dupable. I swear if he told me it was raining I'd have to go outside and check for myself because he's that screwed up.

RE: Should the US grant convicted spy Jonathan Pollard clemency based on Israel's latest plea?

Espionage, treason, etc.. If he's guilty he's guilty and deserves no clemency. Thanks to him and others like him, people die and wikileaks stays in business. Off with his head...

RE: Is There Something Wrong In The World Today?

The world is the same as it's always been with plenty of good and eveil to go around. The only differencce is we're more capable of seeing what's happening.

as far as the UN is concerned... The emperor has no clothes and the UN has no teeth. It more of a bureaucratic stovepipe that's lost its effectiveness if it ever really had any. What good does any organization really do when they lack the will, authority and/or stones to take action.
