It would seem that we would learn from our mistakes. President Obama, being from Hawaii should at least be able to see the utter failure health care reform was there. Similar plan which resulted in those with insurance dumping their providers and overloading the health care system. Last time I checked their health care system was going bad (See attached link for story) They've also eliminated universal health care for children.
The degradation of the health care system in Hawaii isn't the only symptom of the problem. Also see in the attached are other examples of failure such as: "In mid-1993 Hawaii led the nation in bankruptcies, foreclosures, delinquent loans, all areas in which 20 years ago Hawaii was the envy of the United States .... Our major industry, tourism, is in serious decline, sugar. is ended as a viable employer, there is little manufacturing and economic diversity.... Since government neither listened nor modified the mandated health benefits, many businesses exercised the only option, they moved, to Las Vegas, Tucson, Seattle and elsewhere. Outrigger Hotels moved its reservations offices to Denver, more will leave, others will shut down. Landmark businesses, the Pearl City Tavern, the Willows, have gone, and they cited mandated health costs. And most telling is that the state of Hawaii has exempted state employees from the Hawaii Prepaid Health Care Act because it is too expensive and would place an excessive burden on the state economy. -State employees must pay 40 percent of their health insurance premiums, and the state has hired many so-called temporary hires to avoid this mandate."
It seems to me that we should take a really close look at the cause/affect of government run health care using Hawaii as a case study. I think we'll have a much better idea of just how to or not to address this problem.
Sure we need some reform but the cost of doing something halfway or out of ignorance in order to appease people is going to get real expensive with little or no benefit.
I have my suspicions as well. That's why I post nothing but insults to him anymore. Then again, maybe he's real and just smitten with "The Man Himself"
Tom, Quite frankly I'm disappointed in you. haven't you got a house plant or a tree you can converse with. Let me assure you, you would have a much better chance of have the tree or house plant respond in a meaningful way.
A really great miniseries. I've seen it a couple of times and I like the way they don't identify the commentators until the end of the last show. Amazing story..
Holy cow! That actually makes sense. I'm probably really in Montana and don't know it.
Seriously, I made similar points about 9/11. People are going to believe what they want to believe. Nothing you or I say, post, reference will ever change that.
A relatively few really gave folks a big black eye in Kabul.
If you haven't seen the news simply google "guards gone wild" and you'll see.
I can't believe these guys would pull such stunts. They've been in trouble throughout their contract for not providing adequate service and now this...
As a person who has been under Govt. health care for the past 29 years I can tell you that having Uncle Sam in control is no picnic.
I still have a hard time believing some of the crap I had to go through just to get an appointment for my sons (often weeks to get an appointment) and I'll never forgive them for refusing to pay for my youngest sons treatment when he was rushed to an emergency room while I was on a remote assignment. My son was diagnosed there with menengitis, helicoptered to another hospital and died within 24 hours of arrival. They refused to pay because he wasn't hospitalized for 24 hours and because my spouse at the time didn't call the insurance company prior to taking him to the emergency room. So I lose a son (not their fault) and I get to deal with close to 50K debt over something that should have been covered.
Almost a year later the mess got straightened out but I was flat broke and constantly getting reminders from bill collectors. Had I not written Senator Nunn (Ga) about the problem I would have never gotten things right.
So, I'd have to say no thanks to anything the government decides to run, especially medical programs and insurance schemes.
