RE: calling all christians!

This is really no differnt than all those threads that poke fun at or debase religeon. Just a different perspective on it. And it's posted in the religeous category. I would have thought that since there is a religeous category to begin with someone must have thought religeon was somehow important to some people looking for partners.

You're asking for people to respect your right not to believe which is fine but I fail to see anywhere on here where anyone dragged you into this thread. Yet you take it upon yourself to denounce and/or control another persons beliefs.

The solution is quite simple. If you don't like it, stay out...

RE: A 22 and a 45

RE: PRAYERS FOR THOSE IN DANGEROUS PLACES

I believe it was Mark Twaiin who said "There are three kinds of lies; Lies, damn lies and statistics" I'm wondering where your stats come from. Please enlighten me... If you're going to make a claim it would be nice to see where the information comes from

RE: Sell Me on Obamacare

That's what happened in Hawaii when they tried something similar. Seriously, why should someone pay for both private and public insurence because when they're taxed to cover the cost of this health plan, that's exactly what they'll be doing.

RE: Pro-Gun/Anti-Gun?

No no no, We already have guns and therefore don't need to cry that we want them. It's the other way around I think i.e. people crying that we don't want you to have them. laugh

RE: PRAYERS FOR THOSE IN DANGEROUS PLACES

Thanks Kiddo... hopefully this will calm down after the elections... Way too many good people finding themselves to be innocent victims. We'll stay safe...

RE: Sell Me on Obamacare

I think it's too late because Obama and the dems wanted this pushed through quickly. That's not my wish, that was simply the agenda. Not even giving time for it to be read much less studied.

Unfortunately, for the framers of this plan, people have had a chance to actually read the thing and see all the problems with it, I don't think they will get it passed. And they're certainly not going to get it passed by debasing those expressing opposition. Those folks as I understand the constitution are the bosses and the politicians are the public servants.

I'm not one of those who believes it's evil but I do think it's a bad plan and it's certainly irresponsible to push such a costly plan through the house and senate without reading and understanding it. Again, the goal was to get it through the house before the summer break. that's hardly time for meaningful discussion/debate.

Also, similar plans have been implemented in three states already and subsequently ended due to the costs. Hawaii is the latest and a great example of socialized medicine gone wrong. Seemed to work at first but then people gave up their personal insurance since they were paying for state insurance through taxes for those who could not or would not pay for it themselves and they ended up breaking the bank. I see no reason why it would be any different as a nation.

I'm in no hurry to see Obama lose his job. However, if he continues down this road, he and his democratic counterparts are going to alienate themselves much like the Republicans and Bush did.

RE: Sell Me on Obamacare

Naw, I'm more interested in the success of this health care reform plan. I don't think it's going to happen. Obama's approval rating may increase but if it keeps going the direction it has been, he's done in 2012. Certainly some of the Dems in the house and senate are done in 2010.

I think Americans are growing more and more concerned over the amount of debt we're accumilating and the health care reform seems to be the final straw. The speding spree needs to stop.

Anyway, I'll take a bet on the health care reform bill, name your price..

RE: Sell Me on Obamacare

I'll take that bet.. laugh Truth afterall is often a matter of perspective and values.

Obama may in fact have had a reputation of reaching across party lines but that's not what is happening right now throughout the party. They have a majority and they earned it. What they're doing with that power is wrong and like the Reps, Dems, Reps, Dems, etc majority before them, they will lose power. History ontinues to repeat itself.

Anyway, I guess we'll see soon enough.

RE: Just how dangerous are the FOX "News" personalitys?

Unfortunately it's not just the US. One has to be much more careful nawadays of any news sources.

RE: Sell Me on Obamacare

I think it's too little too late. Seems people are beginning to see this thing for what it is. Having a bunch of paid cronies try to sell me a plan that's beneficial to their industry is hardly convincing.

I can't understand why each of the political parties work so hard to get into power and then lose that power by trying to force their will on the opposition and the middle of the road people thus eventually losing power. It would seem that if Obama was really attempting to find a solution suitable to the majority of Americans, he and congress would attempt to work with the opposition rather than trying to ram their solution down their throats. The gag reflex of such action will leave him and those attempting to force or fasttrack this agenda jobless in 3 years.

RE: Do you think Health Care Needs Reform ?

Great questions. I wish there were simple answers. I think it will take a lot of work to do it right. Perhaps tort reform, caps on health care costs, assistance to those who cannot afford it.

Unfortunately, I think we're going down the wrong path with the current plan. Hawaii and 2 other states have tried this. It resulted in those holding medical insurance getting rid of their plans in favor of state programs which ended up breaking the bank. It would seem logical the same would happen here.

Whatever the case, I think it's going to take a lot more than a few months and a hastily pushed through bill to get health care right. It would really be nice if our elected representatives took the time to read the dmn bill and removed the added crap from it before anyone considered signing anything. You and I would go to jail or go broke if we dealt with public funds in such fashion.

RE: Pro-Gun/Anti-Gun?

Well, you have a good disposition and you're logical so you'll make friends there in no time. The folks there are pretty friendly and if you like seafood there are few better places to get it.

It's 1:20 AM here so I'm gone for the night. You take care, it's been nice chatting nd debating with you. We'll see you soon.. cheers

RE: Pro-Gun/Anti-Gun?

Thanks... cheers How's V-Beach nowadays. I was stationed at Langley in the late 90s. Loved it over there. enjoy the summer..

RE: Pro-Gun/Anti-Gun?

Actually, I retired from the Air Force last December. Now I'm working for USAID doing reconstruction and development.

RE: Pro-Gun/Anti-Gun?

I can understand you would have a unique view of the weapons issue. I was actually a cop myself for a short period of time so I can understand some of where you're coming from. I just happen to believe that most people are responsible with such things. There are of course those who are not and I'm sure you've seen your share.

Anyway, a good evening to you. We'll see you around... handshake

RE: Pro-Gun/Anti-Gun?

I thought it fit perfectly since both are deadly when the wrong hands control them. I'm sure as a former cop you've seen the results of both.

As for me, I'll keep and control both my weapons and my car. I believe most people are capable of doing the same and have the right to do so.

RE: Pro-Gun/Anti-Gun?

They do fall into the wrong hands but not always. You can also use the same verbage and relate it to an automobile. Either of these two things (Cars or guns) in the wrong hands can lead to potential disaster. I guess we have to ask ourselves are we so inept as a species or society that we have to have useful things taken away by our government in order to protect us from ourselves. I would think the answer would be no.

RE: Pro-Gun/Anti-Gun?

I had a similar experiance that I mentioned in an earlier thread a couple of weeks ago. No telling what would have happened and I'm grateful I didn't have to find out.

I like that fact I can own a gun but I also understand why some don't feel the need to have one and/or don't like them. To each their own..

RE: how many ppl out there have thought about harming barney(or any others)??

Exactly, and I think all those kids beating up Barney images will do much the same, they'll grow up.

RE: how many ppl out there have thought about harming barney(or any others)??

I grew up in the age of Sesame Street and The Electric Company. I've never wanted to harm the characters from those childrens shows but characters like Barney and the Tela Tubbies are just weird. I think I would have even thought that had I seen them when I was very young.

I think you're right about how children change as they grow but I gotta say that process continues through adulthood and often changes us in positive ways. For example, I remember when I was in my teens and even as a young adult I thought that Mr. Rodgers was a freak but as I have grown older I realize just how smart the man was. And appreciate the things he did for a whole lot of children. I think we all just go through those stupid, goofy changes.
