Dirt cheap labor for the dirtiest jobs. In the late eighties I couldnt get a new front and back porch from a licensed carpentry contractor. They no longer did work like that. I did it myself, hand nailed and hand mixed my concrete.
By the nineties I could just drive up to 7 11 early in the morning and get all the labor I wanted. For the next thirty years things just got cheaper and cheaper and quality -esp. cars, got better and better.

The Swedish government has appointed a commission to investigate the country’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic amid mounting criticism of its liberal approach and higher death rate compared with its Nordic neighbours.
Stefan Lofven, Sweden’s centre-left prime minister, launched the inquiry on Tuesday following pressure from opposition politicians. Public opinion has begun to turn against the country’s light-touch restrictions in recent weeks as its death toll climbed well beyond that of its neighbours and they in turn kept their borders with Sweden shut while opening up to visitors from elsewhere.
“The crisis has highlighted the shortcomings in our society,” Mr Lofven said. “We have thousands of dead. Now the question is how Sweden should change, not if.”

My parents are deceased. I was being sarcastic, the failures in this Country to care for it's mentally ill are disgraceful. Even communist China did a better job! I paid all my life for S.S.- some got more-some less.
If the plague gets beyond a certain point- desperate measures for desperate times. Internment camps for violators? Martial law? Breakdowns in supply chains? Civil unrest?
