Are you sure?? Seems every time they vote themselves a raise, the retirement cheques decrease. It goes up and down like a roller coaster with not an increase for over seven years….Our MP’s can’t stop it , no wonder some have to supplement their groceries like I’ve seen a lot do in the US by eating dog food. If one has a Conservative MP, perhaps they charge a fee …. look at the increase now to get a passport while the last time I got one in the US, it was free….I wonder if they are still free...

Excellent choice!! Fantastic writer. Met him many years ago while working free lance in Wash. DC Met with him at his home in Ravello, on the Amalfy coast, near Naples. What an inspiration he was, especially in international politics. Naturally, I have all his books; still love to re read Myra though, that was just so insanely hilarious as was the film. He thought they botched it …ah well. His last few books on the US turning into a imperial terrorist state in his essays on perpetual war as the final policy was so dead on target, it scared many people, even those who hated him like that so called imperial ballerina William F. Buckley. Yes I watched the live broadcast when Buckley tried assaulting him at that political convention in 1968….he just calmly enraged Buckley …one of the best things that I have ever seen.

Most people either have or will do this; it’s a very common human failing as many of us learn. The fears are relatively few but very common in that most do not want to be alone in Life and that makes us do very stupid and shortsighted things with usually very negative results. Some of those consequences can last a lifetime. This is a well travelled road of Life.

I remember some stewardesses sitting on the laps of passengers and sharing drinks...

Unclear as to who is disseminating all this? An article on this topic that reached the same conclusion as above, was published in Discover Magazine, Dec. 1998 issue “Why Men Kill". If you can find it online, you may be surprised as to how the writer Mary Roach did her 'in the field’ research. She went to the Achuar Indians of Ecuador has /had the highest murder rate in the world. Their part of the country is said to be in is ‘where even Tarzan fears to tread’. Great article.

Ask yourself, what is the purpose of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and what do they all have in common…first the mentality to kill, obliterate any and all so called enemies of their country but only after they have them trained and equipped to do harm, then plot as to who their next target individual, group or population will be bombed back to the proverbial ‘stone age’, which will most likely be a third world level or worse, country of smaller brown people as has been their predilection to pick on. Total domination and control issues plus a sociopathic regard for life qualifies them or the title of ‘serial killers’. Just because they wear a uniform to appear as if they are mentally stable , appearances are deceiving…They all belong in straight-jackets chained up in a room with rubber walls.

It is tempting to agree with you, but I wonder if children, even adults should not have the right to always hear both sides of any proposition, be it on religions or domestic roles. I tend to regard it as if the schools teach children about civil rights, would it not be both civil and a right to learn about different views on any topic as denying them the right to hear other sides, are not the schools and administrators denying the children their civil rights by having them always hear just one side…where would be our systems of justice if defendants had only prosecutors to listen to with no one as a defence councillor….

There are many forms and degrees of torture which are usually the prerogative of the most fanatical elements in any conflict, with the majority not engaging in that type of ‘refined savagery’, saying that in regards to the Chinese who, despite being so civilized age wise, still resort to this as do their cruder cousins, the North Koreans. But have no illusions, the French can and have been as ruthless as ISIS is now, in their war against the FLN in Algeria and later against the OAS on directions from De Gaulle.
When a war is of 'no quarter’, no one is above being the same to ‘fight fire with fire’. Those that see themselves as the perennial ‘good-guys’ end up being/ becoming just like their enemy. Shame, but that is one small consequence of warfare. Sadly, it is always the ‘elite forces’ of a country’s military that ends up in this type of ‘transition’. In covering wars, revolts, uprisings, etc. I’ve seen it in all of them. No one is immune.

I rather like Paul Hellyer, but I fear that because of his outspoken opinions and interests in some rather “esoteric” subjects, that he will end up as did Dr. John E. Mack…dead by a so called ,rather convenient “accident”…just another in a very long list of victims of “accidents”. I hope that he has good bodyguards.
