Hanover cures???

laugh Are the British still smarting after all this time over having some of your Kings from the House of Hanover??? Geese, get over it; it's history and a lot better than having a ruler from the house of Putin....laugh

RE: I would never understand ....

Hopefully you live in a well built house, preferably with steel beams in the ceilings as I have read in a newspaper that on a few occasions someone's ceiling had collapsed in apt. buildings from the weight of thousands of books in the apartment above them. A few were in New York City...one person was found to have had several hundred stolen from the NYC Library...laugh What a mess those collapses must have been and the repairs must have taken several months...Not surprised though as I've seen some with only very narrow paths through the apartments, and houses, due to all the floor to ceiling stacks of books , magazines and newspapers....and god knows what else that may have entered, lived and died in those stacks...laugh
Yes I love books generally but only have collected certain types. I'd love to live in the Vatican Library, or even the the Huntington Library or the central Library in Paris ,Valencia, Berlin or some others. I have always envied those that can loot cities in a time of war...I'd always go for the art galleries and libraries first, then perhaps the banks...laugh Wars can teach one many lessons; for me one was ,be a pirate...laugh

RE: It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

So far no snow as we seldom have anything but a very mild dusting of it, but the horrible flashing and coloured dripping lights are in all the trees which most people find distracting as they try to drive and the idiotic, moronic and infantile songs are blaring from loudspeakers some playing different ones at the same time making people almost yell while trying to speak to each other.... . On here with all the usual crap increased by those with multiple profiles seemingly to drive people away, I have come to the conclusion that the perfect holiday season symbol should be the effervescent Mr. Henki Poo from that joyous TV show "South Park" A fitting symbol for what seems by many to want for CS Forums.
Perhaps a break in Tijuana will be most inspirational and certain;y a lot better.laugh

RE: What advice would you give the youth of today?

Interesting....that is exactly what I've instilled in my son...his roots here and still have the wings to fly and explore the world around us , learn from what you experience and always a place to call home...very good advicewine

RE: The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train

Nice...a great ride to take across Canada at any time of the year. When we moved from TO to BC we took it. All these years later, I still miss the GO trains we had in Toronto; wish we had one or 2 here on Vancouver Island that would go all the way around ,back to Victoria...sigh

RE: What Are You Reading

I love reading, though what I like would have no appeal to anyone here as most would deal with history and politics but at times I turn to mostly old fiction which is a mix of Sci-Fi, Mystery and what H.P. Lovecraft labeled as "weird fiction". Usually I turn to some favourite writers such as H.P. Lovecraft; re-read an old story and then try to find a movie or video version of it on U Tube for comparison; same with the stories by Sax Rhomer and all his Fu Manchu stories and many others, with lots of old movies to compare.
Read The Shadow Out Of Time the other night, by Lovecraft which is set in the great Australian desert. Love it and found some video versions in animation only that were really well done and true to the story. New on my bedside table are also all the HALO novels. Read 4 so far...almost like the old Sci-Fi "soap opera" types from the early to late 50's... one ends up reading until dawn...laugh

A good quote to warm all the hearts of those obsessed with guns...pathologically obsessed:

RE: Real interest or time wasting?

The overall impression are that virtually everyone on here, at some tome is fake/ unreal, and that all profiles are fakes; total lies, etc. same with all the photos. Taken as some type of user's gospel, it certain;y discourages anyone from ever actually reading what people say either on their profiles or posts which usually are the best means of ascertaining if they can even write in coherent English without sounding like a reject from either kindergarten or from the sand-box level. Then again, perhaps they may be stoned on some drugs and can't make out their keyboards properly...which seems to be rather 'normal' on CS as a whole.
May we all be delivered from 'Normal'!laugh

RE: WHAT NEXT!!!!!

It's been the norm in most restaurants and cafes and bistros all over Europe for years. Even at the best ones in most cities. People like to have their pet friends/ companions with them. It's perfectly natural; better than a horde of loud brats. Guide dogs are still dogs and are always welcomed, large or small so long as they are quiet and well behaved which they usually are even if there is also other dogs around tables near by. Same for cats but they as dogs, must be on a leash. In many, the waiter/ waitress will put a dish down with the owner's permission of some meats or something to drink, be it water or cream as for cats. No one has had any problems with this. In all the years in Europe, I never had any of my cats nor with any dogs at an adjoining table or booth. One of my favourite places to stop in after walking around was at the Rathskeller in Munchen. The cooks and kitchen help always gave my 2 some fresh fish and cream....sometimes our neighbours had a large dog, such as a great dane or Chow and it was amusing for all to see them sniff noses...nice, friendly and very civilized which more often than not is not so with restaurants in other countries outside Europe. In many all over South America, it's up tp the head waiter or Chef as it's optional. Again, never once did I ever see, or hear of any problems.
Perhaps one should not take strays off the street in such places or pets that have not been trained properly. If England insists that they are indeed European, then adapting to European customs should not be difficult nor traumatic as it would be in there countries such as in the US or perhaps China or Vietnam where your pet may disappear into the daily menus...wine

Women, on the other hand...in many places they seem to be part of the 'staff', they serve by fetching, "hey, get me ma beer!" or "Hey, git de re-mote fur me baby!" Me thinks that we all have a way to go yet...laugh
Hey...found lots of really good movies made in Mexico as part of a heritage series; and yeas, all in Spanish, on U Tube, especially historic battles...upsetting a lot of gringos...rolling on the floor laughing Some Yank historians are delighted to finally get the Mexican side of things...perhaps revise their versions of history.laugh

RE: On-line dating expeience

Ha! You would much better odds at a casino of finding either a date or a fortunelaugh
At times you may see someone interesting, but would you really wish to chance travel across half the world? Not likely. When I lived in Europe, a good rule was never outside a day's travel by train in any direction...laugh

Is it just me, …is it in my imagination, or do other new members have/feel the same problem of Ignorence on the Forum?
It seems to be a privilegd for a select public/ members… As a newbe it is hard to participad, got that weird feeling I’m always talking to the hand when I try to participate…
Maybe it's because of the sawdust in my head!

Once up on a time, I do remember it was always fun in the Forum, seems like ages ago ...[/quote

More than just some remember the Forums as good fun.
As some have pointed out that it is not you, nor many others but those that for instance have several profiles up; they post multiple threads which appeal to no one but themselves then in their varying guises post on those threads as well as all others something idiotic, banal or just plain infantile . Are they driving people off...you bet they are either as their goal or by putting many others off and they just don't post.
The ol' days in many cases were both a hoot and fun to partake in the many long postings on many threads and feel good afterwards. Not so now. Same back when the Euro threads were alive with a wide assortment of interesting people and threads that made it come alive with daily banter or insightful and provocative topics and posts were well thought out, even by those from outside the EU. Those days have died out sadly just look at the date times of postings and the topics...mediocre to just blithering.
You're a brave soul being here...applause Welcome! Hope you stay around and find a comfortable niche...wine

RE: Harry Hewitt and Meghan Markle

Sounds a bit like a parody of Jean Jacques Rousseau's "Man is born free and everywhere he is in chains." from The Social Contract, 1762
I'd put it as Humans are like rats; lifetimes spent in mazes one after another. If they ever break out and escapes them, they'd just create another so they can again be comfortable and trapped like a rat...laugh

RE: FREE PRESS.

and "A press is only as good as its journalists and editors and its journalists and editors are only as good as the aggregate of individuals - no better or worse than the average person of their generation. The press is biased and partisan and looking for quick fixes to the same extent as the typical middle aged person."

The "Press is free; free to ban and disregard what their vested controllers tell them to ignore/ expose or cover-up. It has always been so and will continue as long as any public press remains in the hands of corporations or their agents or in the hands of those that choose your politicians and manipulate them as they in fact 'own them'. Seemingly. as a former writer for some of 'the press', the only way to break this total control is to literally torch them all and start all over again with public controls in charge with guarantees that no factions or groups can manipulate the stories or the contents.wine

RE: Define normal

"Normal people" as defined by other 'norms' have clear minds. One day something may enter their minds, feel lonely....and leave again.
Someone once said that our world is made up of billions of people and that we are all unique...really??? If so, there goes the entire meaning of the concept of being unique It puts us back into the world of the normal...Oh Lord, deliver us from normal...normal is so mundane; so banal...barf

RE: CHARLES MANSON DIES BEHIND BARS.

Check out the types of outlets and magazines that carry ads for executioners, be it hangman in a prison or someone that injects lethal chemicals into those on a death row inmate taking their final bow to all the witnesses...There are hundreds, thousands; perhaps tens of thousands of all manner of people; depraved or what passes for normal these days that would be only too delirious with an inner joy to do all those "dirty jobs" . They do certainly earn they good pay. Ironic that 'public executioners' are never advertised publicly in newspapers or non trade magazines...

Right....of course! I remember hearing from some that with his abilities to influence people, he should have been appointed to the Joint Chiefs and run the Pentagon...At the time I thought it would have been a brilliant idea! Vietnam gave a lot of people very weird ideas....laugh
