Society is a rebellion against our primal instincts; a rebellion against Nature.

RE: Pick a Comedian

One of the greatest comedians, who rarely ever performed on a stage and who did appear in a few films, wrote and produced some of the funniest short films ever: Ernie Kovaks. 2 among the best were the insane short films of a gorilla dancing a ballet to Swan Lake and is deluged with flowers afterwards, and a parody of the opening segment to 2001, of monkeys who, after staring up at the black monolith, go on a rampage in a small town;one finds a baseball bat and hurls it into the window of a car...with the same theme music, of course.

RE: Canada - NWS #6?

Several years ago there was an 'impromptu ' and 'off-the cuff' talk with some Iranian delegates at the UN in which the question was posed would the Govt. of Iran want a Canadian reactor to prove it's peaceful use of of nuclear power...the answer was immediate and surprising; an unequivocal yes!
I've often wondered what has happened since, and recently as the US and Iran have been trying to solve the entire question. One other ingredient in this matter is could Canada be secretly taking part i the availability of CANDU Reactors has been raised to tie in with what Iran has currently so as to safely prevent the manufacturing of any weapons...If it has or perhaps will come up, I would hope that Canada would welcome the opportunity to work with the Iranians and build a reactor or two there...baring the usual threats by Israel to bomb them back to the stone age.
Stability in that area would certainly be enhanced by Canadian participation to help Iran with any CANDU Reactors, or so I think...

RE: Pick a Comedian

I'll take Dave Allen, Russell Peters, George Carlin, and the whole lot of Monty Python; baring that , that lunatic Benny Hill...

RE: Is your clock ticking?

I have one downstairs in the living room and one in my art room. Usually they both say 'Freetime' but at times when I am doing art, I go in in the morning and come out, it's almost dark; loose all sense of time. Sometimes I do have to go out so I keep one in there, otherwise, certain times during the week,(if I remember what day it actually is), is for a favourite TV show. That's it other than using a timer for some meals...Freetime is my time...

RE: Do you think, would very soon be a "divorce",between the EU and UK ???

Excellent point of observation. This has been our collective failure ever since the Middle Ages. During that entire time span the free movement of both goods and people lasted less than 25 years in spurts for exactly the same reasons as now. Basically simple human nature of greed and when greed enters, corruption becomes endemic despite all eforts by any of the Emperors. The local rulers out manuvered and made any controls of order impossible. The sole missing condition back then to recent times has been wages and parity of our currencies; the older barter system now seems quaint when compared to the fact that it controlled the amount of 'corruption' available to those who controlled the travel of goods and services. With wages into the mix, the only viable and very likely probable solution are wage agreements; wage parity which goes back to 'one coin of the realm concept which is far easier to maintain that a dozen different and competing values which cancels out any real form of 'unity' Perhaps one country, such as Switzerland can be the unifying 'banker of a better run united Europe ' ...perhaps they can design a system not open to wide spread corruption...and yet maintain their independent and objective perspectives. They can take over the roles that an independent Emperor could not or would not . An economic and socially united Europe would need an independent overseer to make it viable, equatable and fair for all of Europe....Would Switzerland even want this job/ responsibility...perhaps, if they consider themselves totally nutslaugh Some one, officially, should ask them....grin

RE: Two arrested in thefts of cemetery urns

I was looking through new book about all the ghost towns throughout Death Valley and other areas and noticed remarks about many of the monuments left about the towns and/ or people were on metal and bronze plaques that have been stolen; chiseled out of their stone settings. Some of the old ruins now, cannot be identified. Other monuments looted are ones that had wagon wheels, metal crafts etc. from their gold-mining days...some of the old foundries and most of the mining buildings have been totally looted of all artifacts and even old furniture. Last time any surveys or inventories of these old towns were taken was in the early 70's. They are pretty sure that all items taken was for melting the tools and metal items were for money.
The Fed. departments in charge have said they do not have the manpower to look after all the ghost towns...
I'm surprised that they didn't blame the poor native American bands living on nearby reservations for the looting...

B. RE: On June 6 1944 When the German Defender Saw the Armada Coming toward them What were their First Word

Near the very end of the film El Cid with Charleston Heston, the scenes show him on his horse riding along the beach...a total editing blurb occurs for a brief moment showing some guys in the surf, in inner tubes playing around...this reminded me of a real situation that occurred at Normandy beach when the invasion fleet came over the horizon...there were a squad of soldiers running along the beach in their gym shorts and some soldiers in the surf with inner tubes when the guards on the walls started yelling...I have wondered what their words were when they turned around and saw the ships...Having seen a lot of newsreel footage of the landing throughout that morning, I did catch one brief, panning shot actually showing an inner tube floating at the edge of the beach as soldiers ran ashore...it has always been a reminder of having lost some great last lines that no one recorded or filmed. I met one ex soldier that was there that morning and this scenario was just one of the surreal moments he told me about...When I saw the film, The Longest Day, I always thought that this scenario would have made a great opening scene...rolling on the floor laughing (Monty Python was pre-empted...)

RE: A man and a woman apparently don't make a couple anymore

The more I traveled around this world, the more I noticed the social fabric of 'European' countries changing for the worse in the mid to late 70's. By the 80's it was becoming widespread as you stated above and spreading like a sort /type of social and personal 'malaise' within male/ female relationships. It did seem that in general, people were quite 'unhappy'; unsatisfied with each other or a variety of reasons, from economics to social issues, to morals or the general lack of them and was spreading into many other cultures as rapidly as broadcast time. The levels of dissatisfaction with almost everything including each other rose as fast as the temperature in the Sahara. It did seem that most personal relationships began disintegrating as fast as the temperature dropped at night in the Sahara while the levels of anger and violence rose out of all the accumulated anguish, frustrations, disappointments and failures of each other and with each other. The social fabric of social and personal lives had rotted out. While some, an ever decreasing number still struggle with dealing with a social disintegration, the decline in most personal relationships is ever more rampant in the stats of failed marriages that it has now become a social phenomenon for any man and woman succeeding to even become 'a couple', let alone have a so called 'happy marriage' that can survive longer than 2 years at most. According to some stats, the shelf life of that is about 3 years...a 'good relationship'...what, about hours or days?
The dating world from what goes on around me, seems to be a date that barely survives 2 hours...hell, one can't even have a nice dinner and enjoy a couple bottle of good wine in that time!laugh
before one or both are ready, willing and able to either dump the other one or punch them out...and in public no less.... Both male and females seem to have not only highly toxic inflated egos but a matching level of pure self centred selfishness. No wonder so many will finish their lives alone while the other will finish lonely for lack of love; to receive and give.
Waiter, since my 'date' has just left, take back this other bottle of wine and bring me one of the really hard stuff, at least 150 proof, to bid this once hopeful night good-bye...wine

RE: it is truly amazing how

It really is amazing! It divides the planet; divides humankind into the 'colders' and the hotties, aka, the Hots and the Not-so-Hots; into the lights and darks; the 'darks' of the southern areas tend to build up whole civilizations and those that are 'lighters' tend to invade and wreck them, slaughtering everyone...Weather/ climate moves humankind; to get away from the cold and to seek sunnier places. The old game of the Hot and the Bothered...all seeking a better climate and a better climax... Just a different perspective...wine
