Diana's Impact

His father owning Harrods was hardly conventional whichever way you look at it. laugh

Dodi allegedly had a 'secret' child, who was 9 months old when he died.

Diana's Impact

I'm glad I accidentally clicked on a documentary about the royal princes that I had no initial intention of watching.

Of course, Diana popped up as a figure in all their lives and it got me thinking about her power and influence.

I'm glad I created this thread; it's certainly food for thought as well as for self-reflection.

Diana's Impact

It takes wisdom and skill to be positively powerful even when you have nothng.

It takes none of the above to crush someone.

That's an unfortunate turn of events, eh?

Diana's Impact

I'm filling in for Mikey. giggle

Diana's Impact

Perhaps it's a reminder of how powerful and influential women and mums can be.

A reminder of how powerful and influential any of us can be, but we choose whether to use that to support others, or crush them.

Privilege provided Diana with a wide audience and the means to tackle some huge topics quickly and efficiently, but that doesn't mean we can't all have a profound positive influence in our own way.

We can certainly try and learn to.

Diana's Impact

We wouldn't be able to measure the value of her influence, but it still mght have been different.

Can we 'measure' the value of her influence when she was alive, other than to say she had it and used it to create change for the better?

After all, the football wasn't cancelled until after she died. grin

Diana's Impact

Actually, I was asking if you were implying that I'm socially awkward in my own right and that Brtish cultural influences are merely my excuse. laugh

Diana's Impact

Huskies! as my mother would say. laugh

Diana's Impact

Yes, just conjecture and curiosity.

And maybe some longing for fewer prickish attitudes and actions. laugh

Diana's Impact

What are you sayng...? uh oh laugh

Yup.

Diana's Impact

Ah, now that's interesting. thumbs up

I might be able to get hold of paracetamol without having to traipse around the shops.

Diana's Impact

Yes, you are entitled to an opinion and to post how you please, however irrelevant your posts are to the thread.

I am also entitled to an opinion, including with respect to some of your posts being misogynistic.

I may be inaccurate in some of my opinions, for example thinking that you are playing devil's advocate.

Now I'm wondering why you are trying to eclipse the subject of one woman's power and influence as well as other women contributing to this thread.

Not that it's just women who have a valid contribution to make here, but interesting stuff is being overtaken under your facile and prolific dross.

Diana's Impact

I know, but it's off topic and I couldn't be bothered. handshake

Diana's Impact

I intended the subject of this thread to be about Diana's personal influence.

You have profoundly influenced me in many ways, Sel, but particularly with respect to your social skills and how you choose to use your power.

Your financial and social status is no more relevant to me than Diana's was.

My awe of either/both of you is borne of traits that I value.

Diana's Impact

Golly, it's a little hot in this kitchen and I can't stand it. blushing laugh

I own, I had but a brief glance and should have researched my answer more thoroughly.

Diana's Impact

Have you lived a life wholly true to American family values, Ro-HAAN? <--- I remembered. idea giggle

Did you marry a woman and have 'two point four kids and half a dog' as we say in the UK?

Or have you lived by your own values and decisions, true to yourself even though that was outside of the dominant, prevailing culture?

Maybe them both having the means and wit to step beyond trivial, or pointlessly obstructive boundaries may have created change. dunno

Diana's Impact

There are lots of people in the UK who can't buy shoes.

The Royal family does receive Sovereign Grant funds raised from taxes. I think we all paid a quid each in 2019.

The Royal family is also not subject to the same taxation as the rest of us.

Maybe Diana might have challenged some of those issues had she lived. dunno

Diana's Impact

This is what I was what was driving at.

Diana lived, she did some stuff and then she died.

Some of that stuff she did had a profund impact upon some people on an individual level and some of it had a profound collective impact.

She changed me on an individual level, if for no other reason than I became aware of Angola and landmines.

She changed the world, if for no other reason than she supported the Red Cross' campaign, she provoked international debate and the United Nations banned the use of landmines 12 months later.

I think she was quite canny about the things she thought, or agreed to do. Hugging AIDS patients, walking alongside a minefield all geared up, or visiting people in their council flats offering to match funds raised for a sick child were simple acts with complex effects.

Imagine if she had just paid for those sick children to access treatment it would have been 'Diana saved this child', rather a mother being able to say 'I saved my child's life and my friend/colleague Diana was a part of the team; she unburdened me and spurred me on in a profound way'.

She used her power and influence cleverly, as much as possible without eclipsing the power and value of other people. That methodolgy increased her power and influence as more and more people were affected by her actions.

If Diana said, or did, people listened. She was very socially skilled both face to face and at a distance. She could inhabit elite and non-elite environments within different cultures. That's a personal skill, not just about privilege.

If Diana had lived, particularly with Dodi, would she have remained silent about wars, refugees and Christian/Muslim conflicts and prejudices?

Would people have held on to any of their prejudices if Diana had challenged them in her simple, but profound way?

Personally, I think we might be living in quite a different political environment and culture had she lived.

Diana's Impact

Does she continue to create change, even though she's been dead for nearly a quarter of a century?

Diana's Impact

Why might that have not gone down too well?

Diana's Impact

Yes, she created awareness and change.

Her challenging the stigma AIDS arguably created a paradigm shift, she was so powerful and influential.

Do you think the world would be same as it is now had she lived?

Do you think you would be the same as you are now had she lived?

Diana's Impact

There is no question, whatever our personal opinions of Diana, that she was adored by many and influential as a result.

Some may question the the manner of her death, whether it was accidental, a consequence of recklessness, or even murder, but let's work from what we know for sure: Diana died on the 31st August 1997.

Had the trajectory of her life continued, had she lived and maintained a relationship with Dodi Fayed, would the world be the same as it is today?

Would you be the same as you are today?

RE: Laughter boosts the immune system and fights Covid.

I'm not quite ready to be euthanised yet, but thanks for the tip.

RE: Laughter boosts the immune system and fights Covid.

I take D3 for it's anti-inflammatory properties, but not that much. I'll consider a higher dose, thankyou.

If I go to the local Co-op at abut 7pm they reduce the veg down to pennies...and then I get a 20% discount because I have my daughter's staff discount partner card. laugh

I also forage a little.

Fresh veg is my cheapest option as well as being my favourite food group and suitable for an anti-inflammatory protcol diet. thumbs up

RE: Laughter boosts the immune system and fights Covid.

I've never really been into cats, but for some reason, even cats that cat lovers can't get near foist themseves on me and start making unreasonable demands.

As a collective they appear to have insisted I adore them, learn their language and obey their every command even at my own expense.

I have no idea why that is. dunno

RE: Laughter boosts the immune system and fights Covid.

I just peeked at your profile.

"What if I never find out who's a good boy?" rolling on the floor laughing

Your lad there is proper handsome. smitten

I'd like your cat too, if she wasn't fixing to suffocate the dog. giggle

RE: Laughter boosts the immune system and fights Covid.

It's been nice knowing you, Geno. rose

RE: Laughter boosts the immune system and fights Covid.

What kind of dog do you have?

RE: Laughter boosts the immune system and fights Covid.

All suggestions welcome, Tom.

It meant I could probably put my diet as a cause lower on the list. Everything is helpful, including elimination. thumbs up

As for the dogs, I'll say hi to them from you in my vespers tonight. sigh

I'm going to be mobbed when I cross the rainbow bridge myself. dancing dog dancing dog dancing dog dancing dog

RE: Laughter boosts the immune system and fights Covid.

Any finely chopped, fresh seaweed will do.

The lava bread is just a traditional food in Wales.
