RE: Could Gabby Petito's Muder Been Prevented?

I thought all along that he would be found dead either from suicide or in an alligator's mouth.
His backpack and notebook were found uncovered in an area that was supposedly covered with water.
It doesn't make sense that he would go in that water knowing there are alligators in it.

I am suspicious of his parents since they went to the area where his remains were found before the FBI got there. Perhaps they put the notebook and backpack there so the FBI would know that he was in that water. Perhaps they knew all along that he was dead.
Officials were able to identify his body by his dental records. Hopefully an autopsy will reveal if he took his own life which is more likely than not. He would never be able to face the scrutiny of the public if he was caught alive.

RE: Worst sin ever?

Betrayal. When someone is betrayed they will lose trust and hope in humanity as well as each other.

RE: Resting easier...coffin is done.

I'm wondering why you write threads but never respond to people you wrote a post about your thread. That is why I never write in your threads but I thought you would find my post something to respond to and give me your thoughts on it. sigh

RE: Resting easier...coffin is done.

When I was a child (70 years ago) my parents bought two plots 12 feet deep so that my father could be buried on top of my grandfather and my mother could be buried on top of my grandmother. They don't allow that anymore in New Jersey.

They even bought the headstone with all four people's names on it with the year they were born. When the person died the date was written in after the burial.

It was weird seeing their names with their born date and a blank space waiting for them to die. uh oh

"Get Baked" Bakery In Northern England Can't Use Sprinkles From The U.S.

Has any CS member ever bought something from this bakery?

"The owner of a bakery in northern England has been left with a bitter taste in his mouth after authorities told him he had to stop using banned sprinkles sourced from the US.

West Yorkshire Trading Standards said the sprinkles contained an artificial coloring which isn't approved for use in sprinkles in the UK.

The sprinkles had the red food coloring E127, or erythrosine. E127 is only permitted for use in cocktail cherries and candied cherries in the UK and the EU, according to a statement from West Yorkshire Trading Standards sent to CNN Thursday. But the owner of the bakery isn't happy that his most popular product has lost out on its prize topping.

Rich Myers, director and founder of Get Baked bakery in Leeds, told CNN he had been using the sprinkles since opening the business in July.

Myers said he bought the offending sprinkles from a UK wholesaler, and said he had no idea there was any issue until West Yorkshire Trading Standards visited the business on September 30.
"I thought it was a joke at first, I thought it was someone pulling a prank," he said on Thursday.
"It's quite an intimidating process really, being interviewed by Trading Standards. It's not something you expect to happen when you run a little bakery."

The situation has led to jokes and puns in the UK, with the saga spawning social media posts about #sprinklegate on Thursday.
Myers was using the sprinkles in a raspberry-glazed doughnut cookie, which he said is the most popular cookie on the bakery's short menu.
"They're one of the best selling items," he said, adding that the ban has been tough for business. "It's not easy and it's not ideal."

For now the bakery has swapped the sprinkles for icing sugar.
"British sprinkles just aren't good enough, they're just not worth using," said Myers. "Until I can find a sprinkle that's legal that is worth using we'll just continue to use something else."

In a statement sent to CNN, West Yorkshire Trading Standards confirmed they had advised the business that the use of E127 is not permitted in this type of confectionery item.

"We stand by this advice and would urge all food business operators, when seeking to use imported foods containing additives, to check that they are permitted for use in the UK," the statement added.

RE: Why Buddha and not God?

The president who was behind the Iran/Contra affair and let Oliver North take the fall.

"At the end of his two terms in office, Ronald Reagan viewed with satisfaction the achievements of his innovative program known as the Reagan Revolution, which aimed to reinvigorate the American people and reduce their reliance upon Government. He felt he had fulfilled his campaign pledge of 1980 to restore “the great, confident roar of American progress and growth and optimism.”

RE: Do you believe the pandemic is fake?

This is nothing knew. Carter and Reagan both gave billions dollars worth of weapons to the Afghans....

RE: Why Buddha and not God?

Because it's a noun. professor

RE: Why Buddha and not God?

Thank you Galrad.

RE: Do you think...men are from mars and women are from Venus

The men I have known were definitely from Mars. All had the same ego, the same need to control, the same indifference to my opinions and the same trait of being unreasonable.

RE: Why Buddha and not God?

Thank you GW. He just had his six month checkup yesterday with a full barrage of tests and biopsy. We will know more next week what the next treatment will be. My daughter told me it might be immunotherapy and more chemotherapy. Don't know whether to pray to God or Buddha or just keep my fingers crossed that he will make it another year. bouquet

RE: Why Buddha and not God?

Good to know. Now I'm more interested.

RE: Why Buddha and not God?

"Buddha noticed when he was a young Prince that most suffering came from a state of mind, he realised that by changing our minds we could ease and even eliminate our suffering."

I believe this to be very true Bod but you can't teach an 'ol dog new tricks meaning me. I am not easy person to relax, to let my mind go.

I've often thought about looking into mindfulness but I don't know if it would relate to what Buddha teaches.

Thank you for your responses. hug

RE: Why Buddha and not God?

I'm just going to focus on your first paragraph my darling mountain climber hug Particularly, "liberate you from suffering".

We (I use the word generically) pray to God when someone is terminally ill hoping that God will heal the sickness. I know He can't because He isn't real in my mind but there is something comforting when we pray.

There is a better chance for Buddha to heal that illness because He is healing our minds so that our body will also heal ..... sometimes.

What I'm saying is that going to the refuge would probably heal our minds while being surrounded by the beauty of the Nepal mountains, the essence of smoke in the air most likely something that is drugging us. I would imagine that there is peace and quiet on top of that mountain which relieves our stress level. Don't we all know that stress has a big factor in our bodies illness.

Right now I have an immense amount of stress in my life since my son-in-law's cancer has come back after multiple surgeries. I could pray to God to heal him but it's cancer! Rarely is there a cure for cancer. So instead of praying to God maybe I should watch a YouTube video of Buddha and hope that He will give me a message for peace. hmmm But it won't liberate my son-in-law from suffering sad

RE: Why Buddha and not God?

I normally wouldn't get into a thread like this but I like your question "Why Buddha and not God" makes sense to me. I don't believe in Buddha or God but if I had to choose one I would choose Buddha. Of course the next question would be Why.

I think for agnostics they have a problem with believing in something they cannot see. Even though Buddha might be a cult at least you can see someone while he does his sermons. He dresses funny and he sits on top of a mountain in Nepal, India and that's very different from believing that a man was nailed to a cross and rose from the dead three days later. Nepal alone would bring comfort being so high in the sky. Could it be that you would have a feeling of being closer to God? In essence you would be getting comfort from two different spirituals.

I don't think I've ever heard God's voice in a movie but I have heard Buddha's voice and it is calming as he speaks with a smile on his face. But then again, what is behind that smile. In today's world is Buddha's smile a scam?

RE: Say Anything

I have been holding off getting gasoline for my car because the price is $3.19 per gallon. That is very high for this area. I normally don't let the tank go below half point but I had to give in today and buy gas. Right after I did a guy came along and put a yellow plastic bag over the handle of the pump that said "Sorry out of gas". Reminds me of the time back in the 70's when we had an oil shortage. I sat in many lines for hours trying to get gas and then only to be told I could only have 10 gallons.

RE: Life stories that is not for everyone

My husband was an severe alcoholic. One day he was angry and forced me down onto the floor. He had a gun cabinet and got one of the shotguns out and put it in my face while I lay there on the floor scared to death. Our daughter was three years old. I couldn't take a chance with her life so within a couple days I left him for the fourth time.sigh

I responded to Galrad's post. Why didn't you tell him to stay on topic?

RE: who's your CS crush?

He was a criminal. Teachers taught us that Columbus discovered America. When we grew up and learned how to research for ourselves we were enlightened to read that he was a criminal, a tyrant and the worst of the worst. He destroyed his name when he slaughtered thousands of people in the new land.
