I would expect that opinion from a 19 year old.sigh

RE: Who has the final say what children learn from Kindergarten through High School?

If Jeffrey Dahmer, Michael Vick, Mary Kay Letourneau, Jeffrey Epstein, William Vahey were parents and in charge of the curriculum of what children should learn in school how do you think that would affect today's world?

RE: Are You Going To Watch?

This might tell you why a U.S. President has never attended the coronation of British royalty:

On August 24, 1814, during the War of 1812 between the United States and England, British troops enter Washington, D.C. and burn the White House in retaliation for the American attack on the city of York in Ontario, Canada, in June 1813.

When the British arrived at the White House, they found that President James Madison and his first lady Dolley had already fled to safety in Maryland. Soldiers reportedly sat down to eat a meal made of leftover food from the White House scullery using White House dishes and silver before ransacking the presidential mansion and setting it ablaze.

According to the White House Historical Society and Dolley’s personal letters, President James Madison had left the White House on August 22 to meet with his generals on the battlefield, just as British troops threatened to enter the capitol. Before leaving, he asked his wife Dolley if she had the “courage or firmness” to wait for his intended return the next day. He asked her to gather important state papers and be prepared to abandon the White House at any moment.

The next day, Dolley and a few servants scanned the horizon with spyglasses waiting for either Madison or the British army to show up. As British troops gathered in the distance, Dolley decided to abandon the couple’s personal belongings and instead saved a full-length portrait of former president George Washington from desecration. Dolley wrote to her sister on the night of August 23 of the difficulty involved in saving the painting. Since the portrait was screwed to the wall, she ordered the frame to be broken and the canvas pulled out and rolled up. Two unidentified “gentlemen from New York” hustled it away for safe-keeping. (Unbeknownst to Dolley the portrait was actually a copy of Gilbert Stuart’s original). The task complete, Dolley wrote “and now, dear sister, I must leave this house, or the retreating army will make me a prisoner in it by filling up the road I am directed to take.” Dolley left the White House and found her husband at their predetermined meeting place in the middle of a thunderstorm.

Although President Madison and his wife were able to return to Washington only three days later when British troops had moved on, they never again lived in the White House. Madison served the rest of his term residing at the city’s Octagon House. It was not until 1817 that newly elected president James Monroe moved back into the reconstructed building.

RE: How much importance do you give to looks or character?

Absolutely zero on looks.
100% on character.

RE: Do you have some?

My father crossed out a sentence in his Last Will & Testament. The court would not accept the change and when he died I had to get an attorney, which cost me a lot of money, to convince the judge to accept the correction otherwise I would not have been able to accept amenities in the Will.

The Law in the U.S. is........Do not make any handwritten changes to a Will. It must be done with a Codicil or Amended in some other way.

RE: First Date

I have dated several men who are 20+ years younger than I am. It didn't work out for reasons I won't get into here but I will say younger men are interesting to talk to of many subjects.

I remember when I was a young women I was supposed to look for a man older than I was because it was assumed that he would be intelligent, a hard worker, and would take care of me. The man I married in 1962 was 12 years older than I was.

Women today don't need a man to take care of them. Doxie dated a woman that was younger but there was more to her than her beauty that he was interested in. Don't forget he met her at a social event where he had the opportunity to talk to her and learn what makes her tick.

Age does matter when the two parties don't have anything in common. You can usually figure that out on the first date.

RE: Should dogs live in apartments?

That is a Newfoundland a very gentle sweet dog. That picture in #80 is kinda scruffy. Here's a better one what they always look like. In fact he looks like the dog I had.

RE: First Date

He had a pic on the thread. He has a long white beard that comes to a point. If I remember correctly he has very little hair on his head that is also white.

RE: What irks you?

People that park in handicapp parking spaces and then run into the store not showing any form of disability.

In New Jersey the cops will give you a ticket if you park in a handicapp space because you don't have a handicapp placard displayed on your mirror or have the proper license plate.

In North Carolina the cops don't even bother ticketing people who have the placard and park in the handicapp space but run in and out of a store. I could understand that happening in a big city where cops are busy but where I live the cops are not very busy. It's not right that the cops don't even give these drivers a warning.

RE: Should dogs live in apartments?

A Newfoundland dog can weigh as much as 150 pounds. It doesn't need much room so an apartment is fine for it. I had one and he was a lazy dog but did like to go for walks.

A Jack Russell Terrier is a small dog wouldn't be happy in an apartment because it needs a lot of room to run around constantly. Even a house is small for this pup but if there's a backyard he will run and run.

What matters isn't whether it's an apartment or a house. It's the breed of the dog and his normal lifestyle that matters where he lives.

RE: First Date

I've had worse loss done to me by a man than $200.

RE: First Date

She won't gain anything financially. She didn't even have the decency to ask for a doggie bag.

I think she has been hurt by a man probably in her bank account. I have been there and know what it feels like. However, I didn't use any of the men I dated after that.

I think she is livid that she might have been used by other men she dated. Even though she is attractive she hasn't met the man who lights up her life and wants to see again.

She has no interest in sleeping with men, she just wants to destroy them. That is her comfort.

I think that since she is pretty she assumes she can get away with anything, that men flock to her feet because of her beauty.

I think she has gained satisfaction that she embarrassed the OP, that she spoke her mind and called him cheap, that she has rejected him instead of the other way around which has probably happened many times due to her volatile temper and lack of frugality.

She is an angry woman with fire in her life. She hates. All she thinks about is vengeance.

RE: First Date

Are you talking to me?

RE: First Date

Really? "Tell her in advance how much you are prepared to spend on her". If a guy said that to me I would say I have to wash my hair that night.

I don't think the posters are being fair to him. Believe him when he says he is financially secure. He is probably used to spending money on his dates but this time it was a meeting not a first date and that's where he went off track. I think he's not used to being cheap, that he likes to be good to women he meets. He's not stupid and knows that women use men and men use women. I think maybe he put too much hope into this meeting.

I've been to high end restaurants and I have been wondering what she could have ordered that would cost $200. Even if she ordered surf and turf at $80, maybe a shrimp cocktail for $20, a salad with truffles $25, a couple glasses of wine at $40 that brings it close to $200. Maybe he added in the tip based on what she ordered.

I would like to ask the OP a question and I hope he doesn't take offense to it. Did she see a picture of you before you guys met? If she didn't see what you look like perhaps she didn't like your beard and decided in a quick moment that you aren't her type but she's going to get everything she can out of you. On the other hand if she did see what you look like there's a chance she knew before she met you that she wanted to destroy you. Either way, the user had a plan and because you liked everything she said in your talks you decided to give her a chance. Like I said in my previous post you can put money on your favorite stock that she is doing it again today.

RE: First Date

It's partially your fault that she ordered expensive food and drink. You don't know much about her except that she's 35 and attractive. Why would you take someone you barely know to a high-end restaurant?

When I met men for a first meeting I went to a diner mostly with the thought in mind to just have coffee but if he made a good first impression I might ask if he was hungry and if he is I made it clear that I would pay my way and they always agreed except for an Italian gentleman.

She had no intention of developing a relationship with you. Don't worry about it, you're not the first one she used for a good steak and top of the line wine. Let this be a lesson. Next time you want to meet an attractive woman suggest to meet at McDonald's or any inexpensive fast food restaurant. If she balks about it then right her off.

RE: I'm Thinking #Cinque

Why is white chocolate technically not chocolate?

White chocolate is not chocolate. What's white chocolate? Actually it isn't even chocolate because it does not contain cocoa particles. It is just cocoa butter mixed with sugar, often with a little vanilla added for flavoring. Now you know why it tastes awful.

I'll stick with dark chocolate much healthier than milk chocolate.

RE: is international women's day...a good or bad idea?

There used to be a Secretary's Day. They changed the name to Administrative Day.

Just like Mothers Day or Fathers Day secretaries should be appreciated everyday especially in a law firm.

The firm would give us cheap chokies and maybe pizza but the person I directly worked for didn't do anything. I knew she appreciated me but she counted on the firm showing their appreciation.

I agree that we should celebrate the people we love and appreciate any day we want to.

To answer your question "why does one day out of 365 have to stand out" it's a marketing tool just like Valentines Day. Buy flowers, buy cards, reservations, buy candy, buy jewelry. Just keep spending money you think will show how much you care about that person.

RE: they are known...as our...feathered friends

Scientists now agree that birds alive today are living dinosaurs, directly descended from theropods (carnivorous dinosaurs that walked on two legs).

Ask your average paleontologist who is familiar with the phylogeny of vertebrates and they will probably tell you that yes, birds (avians) are dinosaurs. Using proper terminology, birds are avian dinosaurs; other dinosaurs are non-avian dinosaurs, and (strange as it may sound) birds are technically considered reptiles.

While all birds are descended from dinosaurs, the mysterious cassowary is thought to be more similar to ancient dinosaurs than most other birds. Large bodied with fierce claws, these flightless birds also have casques, a helmet-like structure atop the head, which many dinosaurs are believed to have had.
