RE: finding anyone on this site...lol!!!!

well you need to post on threads, go to the events and email people who interest you..

Worked for me. I have met lots of good people men and women on this site in real life. I am spending easter with two of them and attending the party in Scotland in May.

Go for it!! It is well worth it.

cheers

RE: Americans.....

Thanks but I was sort of looking for Gilly to answer. I am a real American, born in the US lived there for 44 years. The fact that I live in the UK now does not alter the fact that I am an American and will always be an American.

and Proud to be one too...lol

God Bless America!

RE: Thoughtful Question

Either way unless reciprocated would be difficult.. to love and not to be loved back would be awful... equally to be loved and not love would not be nice either..

I suppose it happens all of the time and someone ends up getting hurt.

Honesty would work in either situation. If pushed, I would prefer to be the one getting hurt instead of inflicting hurt on someone if I didn't love in return.

lol and now I am totally confused.... someone make me a foil hat so that I can obtain clarity of thought please!!!

dunno confused hug

John Cleese’s “Letter to America”

I received this at work today from one of my British friends, it is too funny to ignore and I can even hear it being delivered tongue firmly in cheek by Mr Cleese....

Have to love the British sense of humo'u' r!!cheers

John Cleese’s “Letter to America”

Dear Citizens of America ,

In view of your failure to elect a competent President and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately.

Her Sovereign Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories (except Kansas , which she does not fancy), as from Monday next.

Your new prime minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed.

To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:

1. You should look up “revocation” in the Oxford English Dictionary. Then look up “aluminium,” and check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it.

2. The letter ‘U’ will be reinstated in words such as ‘colour’, ‘favour’ and ‘neighbour.’ Likewise, you will learn to spell ‘doughnut’ without skipping half the letters, and the suffix “ize” will be replaced by the suffix “ise.”

3. You will learn that the suffix ‘burgh’ is pronounced ‘burra’; you may elect to spell Pittsburgh as ‘Pittsberg’ if you find you simply can’t cope with correct pronunciation.

4. Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels (look up “vocabulary”). Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as “like” and “you know” is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication.

5. There is no such thing as “US English.” We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter ‘u’ and the elimination of “-ize.”

6. You will relearn your original national anthem, “God Save The Queen”,

but only after fully carrying out Task no.1 (see above).

7. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday. November 2nd will

be a new national holiday, but to be celebrated only in England . It will be called “Come-Uppance Day.”

8. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you’re not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you’re not adult enough to sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist then you’re not grown up enough to handle a gun.

9. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. A permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.

10. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and this is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean.

11. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric immediately and without the benefit of conversion tables… Both roundabouts and metrification will help you understand the British sense of humour.

Welcome back!

RE: What do you think is the best place to live in the United States?

Hi Dana,

I've lived all over the US, north, south east and west. It is a beautiful and diverse country.

I am enjoying living in the UK... can't beat it for weather. Oh I know, it is not sunny much and it is rather dull and bland most of the time, but after earthquakes, tornados, snow, floods, droughts, lightning destroying my barns, insects from hell.... I find the UK a calm and peaceful alternative...

LOL That is JMO... come and visit the UK

RE: Has anyone ever

I've read all of the Harry Potter books, and love Nora Roberts stuff...lol People in the UK read things that are much more intelligent, but I love a good romantic novel..

And...............I cry during sentimental movies or TV shows.

RE: Is this a new trend??

Hi RHT... been a while. Isn't it cool that we can have different opinions and not worry about it?

To each their own... I would miss some of the happy couples if they were to leave... Nuala/Jim Lola/guitarman Mr&Mrs Kissmedeeply to name a fewcheers

RE: Is this a new trend??

You are correct, I thought the same when I first joined this site... but I have been here a while and have made friends and love to read the threads and to post....

People on this site are fun, funny, helpful and in a lot of cases friends. That is why people who have hooked up stay... It is also nice to see that it can work.
