Just finished reading a book that has kind of spoilt reading for me everything else I pick up can´t compare at the moment! Nearly 1000 pages,semi-autoboigraphical real can´t put it down stuff!
Gave it to Flower to read and couldn´t get her attention for three whole days.
They are making a film of it at the moment and if they stick to the book it will be amazing.....
The author is on You Tube filmed on a promotional tour for the book, talking of his experiences.
What that guy lived through and came out the other side is extraordinary.
When Flower and I started to have contact it was by written message and IM. We both wanted to hear the others voice (for me it was because she is fluent in 3 languages and has lived in all 3 countries long term.Would she have a French accent? Spanish? English?)
So we made that call. One call.Only one. Then we knew we had to meet.
And the rest,as they say,is history................
In my experience the further south you go in Europe the more the "rules and regulations" are to be ignored/bent.
Particularly in Mediterranean lands. Just because the law says you can´t do something doesn´t mean you cant. Bribery and corruption are part of everyday life. If you find a place you like, find out first how corrupt the town hall is and who´s palm to grease.
Having said that if there is a change of government and "new brooms" are looking to appear good to the voters you could lose everything. Here in Andalucia loads of mayors are now in jail and illegal houses are being bulldozed.Even 2 million euro villas belonging to pop stars are under threat... NOT!
It´s a game................ me,I rent, not my problem. Life is sooooo much cheaper here though, and the people have an amazing attitude to life.
Good luck in your quest. As one friend said to me "You do not buy a house here......you buy a way of life"
I was in France when the smoking ban was imposed.Apparently being forced to go outside to smoke has actually engineered the circumstances where people strike up a conversation, and this has led to relationships being formed.
Gauloises have a certain "je ne sais quoi" over Woodbines anyway .
