It often amazes me how the countries who decide that they are going to initiate military action against another are able to come up with the billions and in the case of the US trillions of money needed to take such action!!....they are able to put all sorts of plans etc. in place, mobilising aircraft, ships, military personnel.....on the other hand when a major humanitarian crisis is unfolding all there is is talk of how much it is going to cost!.....Nobody is able to come up with any plan to solve this but want to leave it to the Italians and the Greeks to shoulder the responsibility for the cargoes of human misery arriving on their shores!... To me it looks like the major powers are secretly quite happy to let thousands of people die in this awful manner....
.....You say in your profile that you are an Emergency and Trauma Specialist!... AND a midwife working for MSF!!!.... They must be absolutely delighted to have somebody of your calibre in their midst!........
I totally agree with you OB.....I understand the way your mother felt....and fair play to her....No matter what happened when my husband died aged 36 leaving 4 children I always said I would rather die than live off handouts from the state.....So i persevered on my own to rear them so that I would not pass on a legacy of dependence on the state to my children......they all worked at anything they could find while they were at secondary school....and it did not do them any harm....
I often noticed in the Company I worked for that about 90% of the managers were men......that is still the case even today......any woman who went on to be in a management position was usually unmarried without children.....just wondering does it still happen that companies still choose men over women in order not to have to pay maternity leave or pay for substitutes while women are on leave?....
My opinion is that if there was such a thing as perfect 'love'... i.e. somebody loving us as much as we loved them.....none of us would be out there looking for a second chance to find that special love again.......more than likely the person whom we miss so much is still looking for the same thing......nobody has perfect happiness.....it is a myth....but human nature always makes us live in hope...jmo
I retired early from my job in a bank so that i could concentrate on my favourite thing which is making wedding and birthday cakes....i am now doing something i enjoy and have no regrets.....
I probably should have made it a bit clearer....i'm not talking about credit cards as such because i would not touch one of them with a barge pole....what i mean is the ordinary debit cards where the money goes directly out of our ordinary current accounts.......it's just that it seems a little less painfull using one than using real money.....credit cards are a complete disaster for a lot of people who cannot control their use with their huge interest rates etc.....jmo
We all know the feeling...the bank statement arrives and we have a look down through it....when we went on that shopping trip last weekend we had spent a lot more than we thought! anyway, i am a firm believer that the modern way of paying for goods with 'cards' instead of having to hand over actual hard cash causes us to spend much more than we realise.......any thoughts on this subject?....
That's the first good offer we have received Dan!!.....What about when all the women start fighting over you though?.... Do you think you would cope?...Maybe you should bring a few friends as back up.....
....a lot of stuff crept into the Bible that different religions interpret in a different way.....for instance catholics believe that Joseph was an elderly widower who was chosen to be the husband of Mary.....he already, supposedly, had 6 children...4 boys (mentioned in the Bible) and 2 girls (not mentioned).... seemingly Joseph died when Jesus was a child......catholics believe that Mary remained a virgin throughout her life and therefore Joseph was chosen as a guardian for her and they never consummated their marriage.....lots of stuff in the Bible which is unbelievable.....but that is where belief comes in i suppose.....
All the teachings of the Catholic Church regarding the supposed 'virginity' of Mary has been the cause of untold misery for numerous young catholic girls down the years when it was considered the worst possible 'sin' to get pregnant.....any girl who dared to get pregnant outside marriage was banished from her home and put into some awful institution (e.g. Magdelan Laundries in Ireland) and their babies taken away from them.....i remember my grandmother saying that even after a married woman had a baby they were supposed to go to a priest to get 'churched' which, supposedly made them clean and pure again and then and only then could they resume their duty of producing more children.....
