It was -52 with the windchill here today and the power went out for 7 1/2 hours. Good thing I have a backup heater, oil lamps, extra water to make tea on the barbeque and my battery powered radio. Still it was a bit cool in here. The dog and I just stayed put all day. I'II be glad to go to southern Ontario for Christmas. Northern
It's game day...GO RIDERS GO! There is a reason we are 9 points behind in the predictions....They are going to have to be outstanding to beat Montreal. We will cheering them on, here in the WEST.
Eric Clapton's autobiography...wow what an unbelievable journey through rock and roll. Even more amazing...he is still alive to tell the tale. Really enjoying it.
Montreal has a great team but I'm cheering on our Sask Riders! I've lived here for 30 years now so I bleed green (Ontario transplant). It should be a great final game anyway it turns out.
Yes got mine..no line ups, just great planning by our local health authoritories. I live in a northern community so everyone got them at once. It didn't hurt a bit.
Lady Diana...she touched so many people and John Kennedy or Martin Luther King...so much good was brought forth by them and so much more if they all would have lived.
It's funny how the great point of Charles Shultz suddenly turned into a discussion of Australia. Remember those who care...especially this time of year. Merry Christmas everyone and all the best in 2009.
Well geo I can almost see the Claus's house from here....it's just over that snow bank.....-46 C this am...just enjoying my morning tea before I bundle up for the dog and my walk. Oh yea I'II feed the reindeer when I'm out. Talk to all later. Northern
Each year at this time I hear a Christmas song only a couple of times which I thought was by Dennis DeYoung of Styx but I can't find anything like it in his songs. The only line I can remember is "Midnight singers, midnight song and then the line "a child was born". It is a beautiful Christmas song. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thank you Northern
Wow! The dog and I just got back from our walk. We survived at -45C with the winchill this morning. I think I will just stay put here today. I hope everyone else is keeping warm. Merry Christmas Northern
I do love the snow up here in the north. We usually end up with several feet, but I do agree that long periods of the cold are hard to take. Our second cold night was last night. It was -30 C this morning and the long range forecast has -21s C as our high for the next two weeks. Yep no doubt winter is here now. At least my Christmas cards have been sent and almost all the presents going to my family in the east are wrapped. I guess I will cuddle up with my dog and try to keep warm. Northern
I have always loved the song Je Taime. It came out in the late 60s and was immediately banned on the radio back then (Due to the very realistic sounds the couple made). It came back on the internet and is now rated in the top ten best romantic songs of all time. It is the Jane Berkin version. another beautiful song if you can find itis the piano "love story/he sleeps" theme form Pretty Woman. Northern
I know the feeling. You need to add a distance factor and it gets even more difficult. I always joke (but it's the truth) that I have to drive 2 1/2 hours to my closest Tim Hortons. That coffee sure tastes good by the time I get there. Northern
Good morning. It is 4C and drizzle here this morning. I will have to bundle up to walk the dog. Oh well at least there is no "S" word here yet but I know it will be soon. Have a great day everyone. Northern
There has been some great advice posted here. I think we all enjoy the friendship and if we should find a friend for life...bonus. I read a great quote...if you are comfortable with you and more importantly, comfortable with you being alone, then you are ready to be in a realationship. But if you are wanting a relationship so you will not be alone...you may find that you will not get what you seek. Something to think about. I wish that everyone here finds frienship and finds someone to be with. In the meantime let's make each other's world as happy as we can. Have a great day and smile lots. Northern
It's 5 here in northern Saskatchewan each morning. The leaves are bright yellow and fall is well on it's way. Love this time of year. No snow in the long range forecast so that is good news. Northern
I have to chuckle at the original thread here. Some people just have not lived or live in a fishbowl. Age is an unimportant factor especially given that most "older" people have taken to eating well and exercise programs. Statistics say that we will probably out live the younger generation. We (us so called older people) are looking better than ever. I do not look my age in fact nobody can believe I retire next year. I have had the pleasure of knowing many incrediable ladies who have aged beautifully. They walk with pride because they know how great they feel. BUT with age comes experience and we can communicate about important items, because we care about what is going on and oh yah...we actually read books. Yep! Give me older lady any time. Brains and beauty...is there anything more? Hey Cranbrook2 get out in the world and try and educate your mind. Northern
Yep I hear you! It's Saturday morning and I look out the window and guess what? "IT"S SNOWING".....AGAIN! It's a good thing I'II be busy laying flooring today. Just close the blinds, turn up the music and forget the outside world. Damn groundhog! Northern
Hey Dawn. I grew up in St. Catharines and have been to Niagara Falls literally a thousand times. As you can see in my photo that is the falls behind me. That was taken last summer when I went home to visit my family and friends. Here is a little tip, stay away from the tourist areas until fall/winter, everything is a lot cheaper. The aviary down from the falls and the buttlefly house are really cool if you like that or have grandchildren. Who knows someday we might cross paths. Northern
Very insightful and very true. I am who I am and nothing else. That doesn't mean I can't aspire to greater things but for now this is the real me. An interesting fact is that those who are not comfortable with being alone are "desperate" to find someone. However those who are comfortable with being alone are truly ready to move on. Have a good day. Northern
RE: we are getting hammered with that snow storm wow!!!
