RE: Obama have to keep his promisses! Thats why he was elected!

I love how you think! I am regaining the courage to watch more of the news. It's just been making me sick. I hadn't met many people to give me hope that things will get better. You do.

RE: Obama have to keep his promisses! Thats why he was elected!

The Obama health policies become increasingly suspect when you look at proposed changes in Medicare, there's talk of funding some of the proposed hational health insurance with cuts in Medicare. It's almost as if the government were trying to kill off the weak and old, and others who do not generate tax income? Hmmmmmm.

RE: Gun Control

That's because you're from a wimpy European country. You're used to submitting to your government. Hope we never do in the US. There's a quote from de la Rouchefacould that I remember, even if I don't remember it exactly. " Never trust a man who doesn't have it in him to do evil. Otherwise, all other goodness is merely indolence or lack of will."

RE: STOP PRESS - Uproar as Sarah Palin spends $220,000 on campaign wardrobe in 2 months

I see it as a sign of her true middle class roots. She's the only one on the national stage that doesn't already own an expensive wardrobe. The first report I saw was $150,000. for her and her family. The campaign thought it was important. They, no doubt, felt the press would have mocked her own wardrobe. Now, why would they think that?
Who here really believes, Obama is shopping at Walmart? I find it ironic that the amount spent is roughly what Obama received from Freddie Mac. Why isn't anyone talking about that $200,000.00?

RE: How long could you survive if your your place of employment eliminated your job?

You'll get through. We all will. After all, even when the economy gets tough, the same resources, needs and people are still on the planet. I'm in a similar situation as you. Except I had Hurricane Rita and an insurance company that wouldn't pay up, thrown into the mix. I'm still on a slow climb up. But all my successes haven't given me the confidence and self reliance that even just surviving this bout of bad luck has. I KNOW things will improve. Maybe millions of stories like yours and mine are what it takes for a nation to be strong. Also, I've survived with medical problems and no insurance for 4 years now. Without government help. There's more help out there than these election campaigns would have you think. The same clinic I contributed to for years, now gives my drugs for my heart condition. And when I get back to full strength, I'll contribute again.

RE: How long could you survive if your your place of employment eliminated your job?

At last, someone with a little optimism. If we focus on the negative, that's all we'll ever get. Thank you for your can-do spirit. We are so lucky that WWII isn't going on now! We Americans are losing our gumption. Why do we think earlier generations didn't have it just as hard? Things are never easy. Just because we now know how it turned out, we think standing up for freedom in all previous wars, was an easy choice. It wasn't. Good for you, my Irish friend. No wonder Ireland is becoming the new growth economy. You got the attitude.

RE: Powell will have a role in [my] adminstration

So now the payoffs are right out in the open. A place in the goverrnment for his endorsement. And why not put McCain's record against Powell? Year for year, his service is as distinguished and probably more honorable. And since when is William Ayers not a terrorists? The man blew up government buildings and threatened federal judges. As the people in Oklahoma know, not all terrorists are foreign. Why would Powell's experience or endorsement make Obama any more qualified. In one breath you talk about the fact that Obama has offered him a place in his administration, and this makes him qualified? It just points out how much deal making is going on. Powell was the architect of the Bush policies that Bush has been running against this past months, and now they're new best friends? It's so dirty, it stinks.

RE: John McCain's Sons

Yes. After all, it's all aout what's right, more than who's right. I don;t think anything could change my vote at this point. I can't understand how anyone with even half the facts could choose Obama over McCain. Whatever happened to actions speak louder than worlds? Obama is all talk. McCain is the man of action here, despite his age.

RE: Fear Mongering

About the whole long post...

I think they're overconfident they're going to win and managing expectations. Obama knows he's not really qualified and wants to set up his excuses now. Seems obvious.

RE: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin/Who ever

Old folks' home? Hell, his 92 year old mother could kick your butt! Their family just has good genes.

RE: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin/Who ever

Hey they may as well have a poll here. After all, foreigners are contributing more than ever to this year's real campaign since Obama went back on his promise to go along with the public money and the laws that accompany it. And they wonder why America has an imperialist atitude? Everyone's nose is in our business, why shouldn't we reciporcate?

RE: Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin/Who ever

You do realize that the terms are 4years? You make people suspect you are a natural blonde when you say 10 (not divided by 4) years.

RE: Colin Powell endorses OBama

What hate?

Looking at someone with a critical view is not the same as hate? Are the things being said, true or not? There will always be some who say awful things, on both sides of the fence. But it was an Obama campaign ad that mocked McCain for not using a computer, apparently oblivious that it was his injuries from the pow camp that prevent him from typing anything. At least on McCain's side, the non-verified 'hate speak' is from hecklers, not the campaign. I challenge you to write down pros and cons for each candidate on a blank piece of paper and then make your decision. Obama's is pretty blank when I do it. For me things like violating his promise to live within the limits of the public financing laws IS an ethical problem. As an Ohioan, I see Obama get out the vote workers braggin on tv every night about how they'll register anything with a pulse, legal or not. Ohioan or not. I also urge you to remember that most of the social reforms suggested can be accomplished more effectively through private institutions, not government. I'm really pro choice when it comes to my own money.

RE: Colin Powell endorses OBama

I guess that's why they say politics make strange bedfellows. Treachery is as old as Cain & Abel, so why should McCain & Powell surprise us? I just wonder how Powell expects people to believe race had no place when he was such a big part of the administration Obama is criticizing, his department actually having the largest input in the decisision to go to war. Does he really want us to believe he supports his biggest critic, just because Obama never called him by name when slamming his policies. Did everyone forget it was Powell who made the case for the war in Iraq to the UN?

RE: Colin Powell endorses OBama

I think most people are just hesitant to say anything bad about Powell. Although it seems clear that race is more important to him than ideology. Have you forgotten that he was the third highest ranking official in the Bush White House. He's endorsing his own critics. When Obama talks about how wrong the war is, in his view, he's talking about Powell's decisions. I think his hypocrisy is stunning most people, although I understand the insiders knew this was coming for months.

RE: Obama or McCain?

Now why would you say that? He's only been out of Illinois for one term? Why not be honest, people would like it if a non white were presdient? Get rid of the Boys Club image, I suspect. Would be, if it was Colin Powell, or someone who knew what to do in the office. Obama has NO international experience. His ONLY international position is that he wants to rescind NAFTA. Isn't it so much easier to be against something than get an idea of your own.

RE: WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN SOMEONE LIES ON THEIR PROFILE AND YOU MEET THEM AND FIND OUT?

Was it by a lot? I hate to admit this, but I forget to move the clock up, so to speak. I do it with my horses too, so it's not a vanity thing.

RE: WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN SOMEONE LIES ON THEIR PROFILE AND YOU MEET THEM AND FIND OUT?

How did they lie? Did they say they were divorced and weren't, or 'forget' to update their photo for 5 years? To me, what they lied about would make a big difference. And how important is what they lied about to you?

RE: going peacfully

So sorry for what you're going through. We lost my great Aunt Harriet just a few weeks ago. Even though she was 90, she'd been doing fine , so as you say, it was a shock. I know what you mean about fights. I've never understood that. My family always seems to go crazy just at the spot everyone would be pulling together if our lives were in the movies. Guess we all just gete a bit crazy. I just try to remember my auntie. She was like a gran to me, since mine died when I was 3 years old. Harriet promised "she'd be my gran" and lived up to that. When I think about her and the lovely times we shared, the other stuff isn't important.

RE: what do americans like/dislike about visiting the united kingdom & the british about visiting USA

Thought I'd check this out. I hope to visit UK later this year . I plan on adoring everything, totally, completely. A friend who visited a while back said you Brits are trying to abolish all the things you're known for; hereditary titles, foxhunting, The Queen. I'm hoping she is mistaken. I love you just as you are.
I am a little worried about anti- American sentiment. Over here comedians tell Americans to pretend they're Canadians if they want to get on in Europe. At the very least, we're considered provincial for only speaking English. Doesn't anyone look at the globe? It's a huge country over here. We have to go much further to practice another language. No fair!

RE: stressing

I always like to read the part in Jane Austen's "Emma" where she talks about the two of them being right for each other because of their flaws. To me, that's right on the money. When someone is the right person for you, it's easy. Even the ways you're crazy and messed up will be right to him. Just remember that, you CAN'T screw this up! If you don't click, good to find out. At least you're clarifying what you don't want

RE: Distance ~ How far is too far?

As a serious romantic, I think there is no distance too great for love. As an American, the differences that can separate people, cultural, economic, religious, are just as likely to occur down the street as they are around the world.
I've heard of all those 'propinquity' studies that say most people who marry live within 20 miles of each other, but how old is that? And maybe that's right before the wedding. I think knowing what's important to each of you is more important than anything else. And if you match on what you value, plus have love, how could you possibly be happy with less?
I wish it was only a matter of distance to find my perfect match. I'm starting to suspect I need to travel through time as well. Men are so suave, so sophisticated and complicated anymore. How can a woman yield to something so fluid, so changing, so inconstant? It's like walking on water. I just can't do it.

RE: SHOULD BRITAIN INVADE AMERICA & TAKE OVER ALL THE TV STATIONS TO GIVE DECENT AMERICANS A CHANCE TO

Please do. At this point, having almost anyone else take over American TV would be an improvement. Admittedly, it's the middle of the night (5am), but I have a basic cable package, in a heavily populated state. Half the channels have infomercials. No exaggeration there. I counted once, a full 50% adds for debt cures, steam mops, and male enhancement products. A sampling of other programs includes the movie Pennies From Heaven, Reno 911, The Twilight Zone (old episodes), The Grapes of Wrath and that's about it. I think we should be able to do better out of 100 channels. Even in the middle of the night. I'm here, suffering with a sinus infection, sick, can't sleep and in this whole great nation can't find anything diverting on tv. Sad. Even continuous reruns of The Avengers and Upstairs/Downstairs would be better. Please. I will welcome the invasion.

RE: Name that film.

Are you thinking of Fatal Attraction? Michael Douglas, Glynn Close, Anne Archer. Man has affair with woman who goes psycho and does increasingly naughty things to get attention.

RE: Women are.....

And now a stream of consciousness break... 1 bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch...The apple of my eye...Forbidden fruit...And Eve gave Adam the apple...The tree of Life...Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me...Isn't it funny how some subjects inevitably come back to the same imagery? The same allusions?
They say most of us have 10 matches they could be happilly ever after with. To optimize your potential, you should take your 3rd. Statistically. Crazy, isn't it? Which goes to show you, statistics have no place in matters of the heart. Is there 1 perfect 'apple'? Or can any apple be right 1 with enough 'polishing'? I have a friend who believes we all get what we settle for, be it Atalanta's golden apple, or the 1 with the worm. Who knows. I'm just trying not 2 second guess what I should do, and enjoy each day, even when there are no apples, no boys in the trees, etc. Thank goodness there's always a corps!

RE: scrared to death

I know I don't have children, so feel free to ignore everything I say, but seeing so many disfunctional families and wondering what makes the happy ones, happy has convinced me of a few basic things.First everyone makes mistsakes, there are no perfect parents.Secondly, love is the most important thing. Making your child feel loved and encouraging them to try for their dreams are the most important things you can do. I was 19 years older than my brother and raised in a single parent home. The best way to stay sane is extend your family, get help. Accept the help friends and family offer. If there are none of those, look for other parents to buddy up with for babysitting, etc.help
