Intrusive thoughts are with us for a large part of our awakened day, it's a voice in our head to which we identify as being ourselves. This is not the case...listen to the voice impartially, do not judge or condemn just listen. You'll soon realise there is a voice and I am here listening to it...the beginning of a realisation of your own presence, not a thought, it rises from beyond the mind.
Not all meditation is based on no thought. Some meditation techniques use controlled thinking. Raj Yoga is a good example, that uses an open eyes and peaceful thought meditation.
You just have to accept there are some pretty messed up people out there, we come across them in r/l from time to time and usually do our best to avoid them. The same goes for on here...at least it shows your judgment was good not to respond to them in the first place.
Also worth checking out, the movie titled The Shift, featuring Wayne Dyer it offers a different way of thinking giving a different perspective on life...
The jewel in the crown has to be the Scottish Highlands...hard to believe this is the island we live on...simply breathtaking scenery amongst the best on the planet.
Some people do...on death row. And it's not unusual for some of them to experience a great joy and enlightenment, free from the burden of expectation their acceptance delivers a kind of bliss. For them there is nothing to resist, there is just the here and now.
That's more or less what he says in another video when talking about spiritualism. Finding our true 'source' within impacts on no one but the individual, whereas religion in too many cases impacts in some way on us all, and the results are not always good to witness.
"What a horrible little word faith is, exuding as it does it's fake aura of purity and virtue while funding some of the ugliest ideas this planet has ever seen. Closing peoples hearts when it should be opening them, making them proud of things they should be ashamed of and ashamed of things they should be proud of."
The word "God" has been creating a mental image through thousands of years of misuse. A mental representation of someone or something outside you, and almost always a male something or someone. I believe the word means 'being' which is more of an open concept. Sometimes it seems, rather ironically the the word God is a hindrance in enabling you to experience that towards which it points. The force of being cannot be explained in words, nor can it be depicted by some kind of mental image...imo.
RE: is it possible to STOP thinking?
Sounds like you and I have been following similar paths in our lives...
