It's diversity, socially but mainly geographically.
I love the fact that I can travel less than 200 miles in any direction and the landscape is so different. From the beautiful Peak District, the wild Yorkshire Moors and Dales, the stunningly breathtaking Lake District, the marvelous West Country coastline to the gentle tranquility of the Fens, I never tire of exploring this fantastic landscape. Of course if I were to include the Welsh Mountains, Snowdonia and The Brecon Beacons, the Magnificent Scottish Highlands, this island I live on is really second to none.
"Experts say that several obvious differences in people affect what they find humorous. The most significant seems to be age.
As we mature, both our physical bodies and mental outlooks grow and change. Since there is a certain amount of intelligence involved in "getting" a joke, our senses of humor becomes more developed as we learn more. By the time we're grown, we have experienced much of life, including tragedy and success. In keeping with these experiences, our senses of humor are more mature. We laugh at other people and ourselves in shared common predicaments and embarrassments. The adult sense of humor is usually characterized as more subtle, more tolerant and less judgmental about the differences in people. The things we find funny as a result of our age or developmental stage seem to be related to the stressors we experience during this time. Basically, we laugh at the issues that stress us out."
Just posted this in the intl forum...seems perhaps pertinent to this thread also.
What is Race?
What is Race? When some people use the “race” they attach a biological meaning, still others use “race” as a socially constructed concept. It is clear that even though race does not have a biological meaning, it does have a social meaning which has been legally constructed.
"Most of us have only truly grown when our ego's haughty power has been brought down. An open and humble ego will recognise and keep in check any complexes that seek to undermine the soul or psyche, therefore allowing true self awareness and the value of others. Left unchecked, the ego can be like a petty tyrant reaffirming it's 'rightness' as compensation for the swamp of doubt on which it's castle is built."
James Hollis...or should I say my interpretation of his words.
Nicky my child he stands there with the wind in his hair Wondering whether the water the wind of the where I fear that someday he might ask me if mine is the blame And I've got no reply save to tell him it's all just a game And Heather and I lay together and I was in love She weighed up the gains and the losses and gave me the shove The fear of mankind's untogetherness pounds in my heart The deceit of my friends the betrayals of which I am part.
And the bankers and tycoons and hoarders of money and art Full up with baubles and bibles and full of no heart Who travel first class on a pleasure excursion to fame Are the eyes that are guiding society's ludicrous aim And the village is making its Sunday collection in church The church wobbles 'twixt hell and heaven's crumbling perch Unnoticed the money box loudly endorses the shame As the world that Christ fought is supported by using his name.
And O how the sea she roars with laughter And howls with the dancing wind To see my two feet standing here questioning.
A mighty song from one of Englands greatest ever singer songwriters.
I found by the time I reached fifty ten years ago the need to love and be loved diminished greatly. Now it's no longer is an issue, my life is my own and I can share it with all around, as and when I please.
I kind of like it that way...less distractions....
How does it feel to be completely unreal And how does it feel with a white flag in your fist How does it feel to have two faces How does it feel with your god strapped to your wrist And him leading you such a chase You got one set of words for him, and you got another for me You're gonna feel mystified when you're identified Don't worry kid it's not real
And outside on the dragon And inside in the cold Mammy's on the bandwagon, daddy's just getting old And through the blood spew heavens The roar of lust complains: Please let me in I have no sin, but you know I'm not real
