hmm i think people grow and learn over time so what our criteria for a soulmate are today might be little different tommorow. Sometimes to the extent that people may feel there is no need for a mate but feel the completeness in their own soul ..

Crotalus , if u are atheist as i have read u are , it really shouldnt hurt as much by this comment as being told maybe you are delusional to someone suffering from a certain disorder. He is going thro' something he clearly expresses frustration about. I hope you get what i am trying to say.
Now how much ever u justify suggesting he is delusional ( i do think u probably meant to jest ) when u know he has confessed whatever he has , it does come across pretty mean.
Not everyone is going to be strong or emotionally confident or sorted out. So i think its a responsibility we all share towards each other of using an acceptable tone and language on sensitive issues.
I do think people should be careful when making medical diagnoses , comments and assumptions here or maybe add a " i think " or i am guessing cos there could be a lot of people reading this who are affected by whats going on or being discussed.
I mean certain issues are not just threads and people who are posting are live people so maybe a little care in the way we put across our opinions would be ideal.
Barnard was drunk , bipolar and off his medication.
Alrite .. i will try to give a little opinion from both sides of the coin ..
1)if barnard was drunk .. doesnt mean anything .. cos he ought to be very drunk to be emotionally numb and aggressive. 2) off his meds and bipolar also means not much. As it depends on the severity of his disease which ought to be serious if him being off meds has to lead to such a drastic step.
BPD ( bipolar disorder ) does range from Mania ( elevated moods ) to depression. RARE cases have full blown mania which includes being psychotic.
Now THIS guy could clearly have skipped his meds so that he escaped the blame OR skipped them for no good reason.
His ACT , what he did comes across more as an act of RAGE .. anger and posessiveness THAN an act of delusion. As already mentioned , his girlfriend was trying to get away from him.
We dont know the background details but possibly it could have to do with his temper , violent behavior ( a possibility which i am just guessing ) ..
Is he liable to be charged based on his illness details ???
This topic of mental illness and crimial trial has a life of its own , complicated and very serious with emotional implications.
Just like a severely deranged person has no clue how what he did feels or why or why not.
Similarly , its impossible to convince the kith and kin of the ones who suffer at the hands of such deviant people that their disease made them do it and so they should be put under treatment instead of jail.
Ask me , I have no clue whose side to take. Though i feel very strongly for the family of the ones who have suffered.
But i DO think letting such people scott free is NOT the solution.
NO .. I dont hate or detest them cos as a doctor i know that a severely deranged person is not really in the realms of logical judgement. But there are certain rules of living in a healthy society for safety of self and others and hence they do need rehab in to isolation or some place not in contact with the routine world.
