RE: WHAT IS YOUR.........

I like lively colours, like red, orange, yellow, but the colour I like the most is violet. I like that one since my early childhood (lsince I was 3 or something).

The colours red and yellow are the ones I like to dress in, combined with natural, earth-like colours (the ones you can see in a lush forest).

RE: Catching up :-)

Hi! How are you doing, long time no see!

I've sent you a message recently, hope you're doing OK. You know I always worry about you lately.

RE: Catching up :-)

It turns out at least one of the ladies wasn't a spammer :)

This restores my faith in humankind. Cue "Aquarius" from "Hair"....

Maybe I should try to contact the others, too - maybe not all are some Nigerian scammer posing like beautiful women! Yay!

RE: Catching up :-)

I'm catching up, too. Haven't been posting in eons.

But I was encouraged by the sudden increase of messages and flowers sent my way in the last 2 weeks. What the heck? Is spamming on the increase, here? I would get a few messages from people I know, but 4 messages + 1 flower from 5 women I never met before - in 2 weeks?!

So did anyone else also notice this increase in "traffic" in the last 2 weeks? I mean, I know I'm charming and all, but still...

RE: Ok....you have one choice only!! Choose carefully.....

You're aware, aren't you, that the life expectancy was less than your age, back then?

RE: What are the 2 greatest achievements of the human race?

There would be cold beer: the Romans even made (some sort of) ice cream. Kept the stuff in caves at a temperature slightly below 0. Now, considering the amounts of beer people are consuming, there probably aren't enough caves on our planet, but still, in theory, you'd have at least some cool drinks to enjoy.

RE: What are the 2 greatest achievements of the human race?

Not wiping ourselves out in a nuclear war.

And, oh yeah, toilet paper.

RE: Where in heavens name have you been!?!?!?!?

Ah, right, the UK. I was there, too. I was shocked to learn cabs don't take credit cards?! This was 4 years ago, what's the status with that, now? Iäm just not that big on carrying cash with me.

Oh, now I remember the name of the place: Reading. That's where I stayed for a week. Somewhat near London.

This also reminded me to get in touch with a friend from there, I have not heard from in a long time.

Wow, this thread really delivers!

RE: Why are you single?

This is the most insightful post I have ever read on CS. Granted, I have been a member only a week or so, but still, I think this post will - or should- enter the annals of CS.

Write it down ladies and gents, because the truth it holds is deep.

RE: Explain the user name you chose

Allright. You explained 2/3rds of the story. What's up with "64"?

RE: Where in heavens name have you been!?!?!?!?

I liked it a lot. But I was surprised to learn that their traffic/car policies are very similar to USA. Not friendly to cyclists or pedestrians, especially in the countryside.

Would I like to go back? Sure! But the travel from Finland was a bit too long for my tastes (considerably more than 24 hours). I would need to travel business class to make the trip acceptably comfortable, or be in good company (I traveled alone that time).

RE: Where in heavens name have you been!?!?!?!?

How could I forget Germany? I was there a bazillion times. My ex is from Germany.

Nice country, but not anymore what it used to be when I was a kid - then it was a well-organized country where trains were always on time and people were clean and polite.

Nowadays... well.........

what can I say.....

things change.

RE: Where in heavens name have you been!?!?!?!?

Thailand is yucky? Thailand is WONDERFUL (thanks for reminding me). Such a colorful country and yet, the people are very, very polite. I can appreciate polite.

Also, even though I'm not much into physical beauty... thai women are very pretty.

RE: Where in heavens name have you been!?!?!?!?

Hei, en ole naapurisi. Mutta kiitos kysymystä, hyvää. And you?

RE: Where in heavens name have you been!?!?!?!?

Sweden, Norway, Italy, Hungary, Czech Rep., Estonia, Austria, Finland (of course), USA, New Zealand, Israel and my native Croatia. I might be forgetting a country or two.

RE: This or That

Angel, of course, what else.

banana or banana banana ?

RE: Your favourite movie of all time.....

Gattaca

Moral of the movie: even if, by birth, your chances are small, if you really want it, and you have the balls to go for it, you might succeed in realising your dream. I like it, it tickles my "one in a thousand will make it!"-nerve.

RE: Why are you single?

Because I'd like my partner for life to be funny and self-confident. And there aren't many single women like that, around. I guess I could express this thought in terms of mathematical formulae, but this is the gist of it.

RE: Teach me Something

That can't be true. Without even researching this very deeply, I know that the Kilimanjaro is 5895 m above sea level. That's about 2000 m more than Mt. Cook.

And then, in the "neighborhood" (Oceania) of New Zealand there is Puncak Jaya, 4884 m above sea level. That's 1000 m more than Mt. Cook.

And then, there's Aconcagua in south america. That's really really tall. Perhaps twice as tall as Mt. Cook.

This is serius thread. We need to give serious information.

seriously

RE: If you could re-live one day in your life, Which would it be???

That's a nice one.

RE: If you could re-live one day in your life, Which would it be???

My thesis defense. I knew my stuff through and through, which helped me to deliver a memorable presentation. It was the epitome of months of hard work.
Those who participated, still to this day remember it, and so do I. I'd love to relive it. Not the whole day, that one hour would be enough.

HAHAH!!

The world is a funny place.

RE: Teach me Something

In fact, I can move my ears, slightly. That's one of my physical abilities I'm so proud of.

RE: Am Sorry !!!

I am sorry to hear that. Sometimes I feel the same way, living so far away from my elders. I am afraid one day it will be too late.

RE: Teach me Something

You seem like a woman with lots of experience. I appreciate that.

By the way, was it freshly "made" or dried?

RE: Teach me Something

Of course it can melt. If you heat it in an inert gas (a noble gas, for instance) it will melt. More precisely, depending on the pressure, it might sublimate, too.

By the way, did you know you can deposit diamond layers, just like epitaxial silicon? And moreover, you can dope it with impurities to make it conductive? Pretty impressive stuff. You can microfabricate things like microcantilevers (in the region of hundreds of nanometers) with diamond deposition.

RE: Should governments spend money on outer space?

Of course. Doesn't change the energy needed.

RE: Sound

This one is pretty bad:
