Do you want me to show you the devil? That oldest friend of knowledge? Coming right up . . . don’t go to bed. Or if you do check this thread for him tomorrow . . .
I believe in God as well . . . a God of roses and a God of thorns.
Thank you for sharing that with us and I do not think you a freak for doing so. AND . . . I believe you 100%. I have heard many things that make even we great skeptics wonder.
Ah, that good old ‘soul-notion’ taken as a given by all of mankind since time immemorial . . .
Even Socrates was corrupted by it. And Plato by Socrates.
I do not have a soul, I AM a soul. I am not afraid that I do not survive my physical death, indeed I find the notion absurd and would not even want to.
If there is a life after this one that is utterly inconsequential to me. All that matters to me is THIS world and I have endeavored to keep my eyes solely upon it.
If there is an afterlife, my only single worry is where . . . and what am I supposed to wear it?
I have decided to look for an answer to our salvation in the 'meantime', is what I mean. As apposed to living as submissive a life as possible while waiting to be saved.
Who is Jesus? Who was Jesus? Some hold it that he was and is the way, the truth and the life.
I believe he is the biggest thing that has ever stood IN THE WAY of the TRUTH . . . and the life.
And so, I am not waiting around to be saved by some man who is going to fly down from the sky in everything but a blue-suit and a red-cape and save us . . .
That is for lesser mortals.
We are going to have to save ourselves. And I hate waiting. Waiting implies expectation and I’m too impatient for that implication.
Good things come to those who wait? It is more likely to be the inverse. And good things come to those who do NOT wait for them.
The fundamental thing to understand is that a true following of Christ's entire teaching is only possible upon denial of the will to live . . . which is in complete conflict with the instincts, which are all, as it were, 'wille zum leben'.
Interesting use of words, Aries. I might have used the exact same ones myself . . .
Yes, people are all waiting to be saved and always have. The one difference between them and me, is that while I am waiting . . . I have decided to look.
I have learned some new things from my . . . Biblical friends - we are not only looking at The Bible out of context but questioning the validity of its teachings and laws out of the context in which they were given, and in many instances to which they still pertain.
I consider this comedy second only to Monty Python and The Holy Grail. I have in fact even read the script by the Cohen Brothers.
Yeah, uh . . . we found it lodged up against an abutment [the dude’s car]. Ah, man! Lodged up WHERE? Yeah, they probably abandoned it once it hit the retaining wall.
I believe they are making a new movie based on the book ‘No Country For Old Men.’ It’s about time!!!
Well put my man. It is well known to ME, for one. Really, I see nothing here to debate but a few loose ends. Your separation of the texts from the scrutiny of the poor ‘adherents’ and ambassadors of them and your virtue in doing this for ANY faith is a most noteworthy approach and plea to the reason indeed of those who attack the religions themselves on these grounds, and I have praised you for it on Riya’s god-thread.
However it goes deeper than this upon a close look for flaws in the faiths themselves (the Religious texts, then). Not corruptions or inconsistencies but moral teachings inconsistent with reality itself in so far as being impractical in application to it.
Hey, soon we will all have God-threads! God-heads on God threads!!!
I thought we would really tango . . . but really I see nothing here we can really tango with.
What you are saying seems very reasonable to me.
However, it is my personal opinion that Christ is not coming and the world is going into steady decline and that decline is increasing and now it is crying out for a revolutionary!
And what a dangerous cry is a cry for revolution!!! Someone with fearlessness and willing may answer the call!!!
You know my assertion of the need for greater law and enforcement. Indeed for LAW AND ENFORCEMENT. After what you said on the ‘God fact or fiction’ thread it is indeed necessary to take into account the moral teachings of Religion/s so as not to produce a pure ‘police state’ where everyone’s ‘saintliness’ so-called is merely out of fear of a state rebuke. The people’s righteousness and therefore their virtue must indeed stem from their own understanding of what is right and wrong, and their choice/preference of what is right OVER what is wrong and why. Nevertheless, of those who choose do wrong the law must be THERE to deter. But how do we find some happy medium between a dispassionate law and enforcement (Government) and ‘a people’s self-governing morality’ when these two notions come into clear conflict and maybe must for this very reason? For a call to this very consideration! I am one for a scrutiny of the impracticality of the morality of Christ.
RE: Who Was Jesus?
No, hand her another glass of wine . . .
