Wow, that is all just insane! I cant believe that you have to go through that! If I were you, I dont know how Canadian systems work, but I would not put any more of your money into a bank account! Get a fire proof safe and keep it in a safe location and keep your own money so that they cant freeze it up and leave you with nothing!
This is just a really messed up situation, and I wish you the best of luck with all of that.

My son is 9 and my daughter is 4 and I never get child support. My kids don't know their dad, I took them last Thanksgiving to meet their fathers for the first time in 6 years/4years. Not because I wanted to, but my kids wanted to know who they were.

While it would make life a lot easier to get support, its really not worth my time and energy to try and fight them over it. Besides I don't want to influence the way my children think of their fathers, and a court battle wouldn't be a good way for them to get to know them.

Both times I was pregnant when I left, so my kids don't know the crap that went on in my relationships( got cheated on both times I was pregnant...) Both of them now have a son each living with them, and I wouldn't want to take them away from their families that they actually choose to acknowledge. That wouldn't be fair to their other kids. Though being completely ignored by their father is not really fair to my kids, at least that is their fathers choice and I don't have to feel guilty about it. Having them thrown in jail and taken from their families would just make me feel bad especially since one is a single father now and his son would have nobody.

Yes the non custodial parent- dad or mom- should be happy to help out with their child, this is just the right thing to do, but sometimes that's not how it works out, and you can either get the courts involved, or just let it go and do the best you can for your kids. I for one give all I have for my kids. They are my life, and I do without a lot of things that I want so that my kids can have nice clothes, computers, toys, video games, a nice home, and things that I wouldn't be able to provide them if I were to go and buy nice new clothes or a new car or whatever for myself. This is nothing special I don't think, just something that any parent should do for their child, without having to be told to do so by some judge.

I always say some people just shouldn't be allowed to procreate, and if you are the kind of person to ignore the fact you have a kid, or have to be forced to pay support, maybe you should go and have yourself fixed so you don't have any more kids.

Well, I have read some of the posts, but not all. I am a single mom, have a 4 year old and an almost 9 year old, and I can totally understand why a man who doesnt have kids/or woman for that matter/ would be hesitant to eter a relationship with kids. It is not something to be taken lightly as there are other lives involved. I personally wouldnt want to be with a man who didnt have kids as they have really no clue what to expect or to do with the kids!
My kids are my life. I love them, and they will always come before any man I may be in a relationship with, and that is hard for non parents to understand. People who have children already know and understand that they take a lot of time, energy, and work to try and raise them. There isnt much alone time, and there is always something going on with the kids to prevent you from being able to go out on a date, or have any "alone" time, so yeah I can see where a non parent would be overwhelmed by that.
Think back to how you felt about relationships before you had children. Would you have wanted to stay home most of the time with the kids, and have homework time each afternoon, football practices, dance lessons, and basically just run around all day doing things with or for the kidcs? Before I had kids I wanted to be the center of attention, wanted to go where I wanted and do what I wanted, and now, I know that it is a rare treat to be able to leave the house with out kids! Even to just go to the grocery store is an event with kids!
Children do add strain to a relationship, but one day there will be that perfect man/woman who will accept them as they do the parent, and who will understand and applaud the parents efforts in raising the child, and who will want to help out in some way. Until then, love your kids and let them fill the void of not being in a relationship. Between my kids and going back to college, I am spread pretty thin, and really dont have much time to try and get into a relationship. I know and accept that at this point, but in a few more years I will be done with school and have a great job, and then once I can take care of myself and my kids, then I will work on trying to get into another relationship, but until then, I will be more than happy to be here with my wonderful kids!

For me, so far almost 5 years... It may never end, but I have been working on getting my life together and doing what I need to do for myself and my kids for the past few years, and not even looking for a relationship really. I figure that I will do what I need to do to make a life for me and my kids, and get us taken care of first, finish school, get a nice carreer going, and then if something happens, I would be open for it. As of right now, I am open to having friends, but not quite ready to start the whole dating/relationship game again yet. I guess each of us will heal at our own rate, but I know that my school and my kids have helped me a LOT to get over it, and to keep my mind occupied to try not to think about what could have been... But sometimes when you least expect it you will hear a song or see a movie, or something that will trigger a memory and make me sad again, but I suppose that is the way it is for everyone...

I wish you the best of luck, and I agree with the above post about not giving him time. Dont let him call you or email you because its just going to prolong the time it takes to heal. The less of him you can have in your life, the better off you will be.

If she loves him, then yes she should marry him. My grandfather had 5 heart attacks before I was even born, and he is now 75 years old and still going strong! If a person loves someone, their health should not deter them from getting married. Besides that, with a change in diet and excercise, my grandfather has lived 30 years longer than the dr's said he would, because he had a great wife to take care of him and make him eat right and excersize regurlarly!

I wouldnt waste what time they do have together on worrying about the what ifs of his health! I think they should get married and live out what time he does have left on this earth happy! Good luck to your friend and her possible husband!!

I have guns in my home. I am a single mother, and keep them for protection purposes. My dad hunts, so he has guns, my grandfather used to be a sherrif, so he has them, my brother in laws are military so they have them, in fact I dont know of anyone in my family who doesnt have guns either for protection, hunting, or just to have. There is nothing wrong with owning a firearm, so long as you are responcible and educated enough about them to know how and when to use them. Its just the stupid people who use them for violence who shouldnt have them. I wouldnt dare change anything to do with our constitution, ever. It was created for a reason, and should never be changed, you change one thing, and the government will want to change the whole thing, and there would be a BIG problem for everyone in the US and who knows, that problem may spread beyond our borders... But, this is just the way I feel on the subject...

I am moving to Colorado though!! I cant wiat!! Right after this semester is over, I am out of Indiana for good, never to return again!

Now I just need to find someone to teach me how to ski... without killing myself!! Or maybe ice skate, that would be fun. I tried it once, but I was only about 6 and I think my butt was on the ice more than my feet!!

OMG!! That is too funny Ship!! I have never done that, but my best friend had put her grandson into the tub for a bath last summer while I was there, we got preoccupied gossiping about this that and the other, went to the back of the house to do something, and passed the bathroom... the carpet in her hall was completely flooded!! It pulled her lynolium up off her floor, and she had just remodeled her bathroom the week before!!! It was horrible!! We got the carpet shampooer and just sucked it all up, it was like 3 inches deep in the bathroom and flowing like a waterfall over the top of the tub and running down her hall!! It was crazy, but hilarious at the same time as her grandson was just leaning over the side of the tub watching the waterfall!!

It happens!! But hey at least you dont have to pay for it and you get your floors cleaned at the same time!!
