I agree.. one of my soulmates (I think) is a girl so obviously not romantic.. it was funny how I met her.. completely random.. we were both sitting in the back of a court room (bored!!) lots of waiting around.. and she kinda turned to me and said "pssst.. wanna see a picture of my boyfriend.. (strange Q, to ask a stranger)... but I just replied..'yeah sure'.. and she produced a picture of her Paddington Teddy Bear.. we just started laughing.. introduced ourselves and have been friends ever since... ..

I think we have more that 1 soulmate.. and I don't think that a 'soulmate' has to necessarily be in the Romantic sense.. although god knows like most people I live in hope... I think we are all floating souls at the end of the day waiting to find eachother.. I met most of my friends in the most random and untraditional way.. and I have always known pretty immediately if we were going to b good friends... any thankfully I still have them including one of my oldest ones who I met when I was seven

I totally agree... I wish to god that the powers that be, the legislatures and the governments would see this.. I feel soooo frustrated and helpless and it truly breaks my heart to see any child not get their god given rights!!! As soon as I have more money and more time I am GOING to set up 'after skool clubs' to give children accesss to their potential!!!

This is Detentes point!!...its not that simple... I had a client 'mary' really sweet girl 18 who was just starting to turn her life around by doing a vocational course (v proud!!) and in a case which involved Garda (police) bullying she chickened out.. her words were.. "whats the point in the telling the thruth, there is no point.. nobody will believe ME" these kids grow up feeling on the margins.. almost like they don't belong to society" we need to teach them otherwise.. they are not going to magically figure it out themselves...

I am not comfortable voting for ANYONE unless I am educated in what they are about and have some idea what their manifesto is.. however I really admire the way she dealth with her husbands 'scandal' I think her ability to be forgiving is an example to us all...

This is SO true!! I really do believe that if children get the proper guidance and a sense of self worth and the motivation to believe in themselves.. we wouldn't have half the problems we do. I have a friend who is on Government committees in Ireland for Childcare and is a strong advocate for the welfare of the child and she was telling me that there are some children that she came accross in the course of her work who were amazed when they saw a potato.. they had lived on a diet of chocolate and crisps if they were lucky!!!... how can kids in those circumstances grow up to be the building blocks of society.... before they are ten they have already come to accept that they are 'scumbags' and therefore worthless....

That is why democracy even with its inherent flaws (of human origin obviously) is the best of a bad lot.. because collectively we can see outside ourselves...individualy we only see ourselves.. anarchy wouldn't allow for such considerations.. in a democratic environment we have the choice to 'vote' for representatives, who are courting our support and effectively 'force' them to act against instinct.. to a degree.. there is always a certain amount of corruption.... power and corruption being as they are... war appeals to the most the most base element of the human core and is legitimised by nationalistic motive...

Social policies guide us to a degree.. say e.g. In the Uk and Ireland (but to a larger extent the UK) have accessible health care.. so that everyone has access to the care they need when ill... In the US.. (please correct me if Im wrong) health seems to matter less if you do not have the appropriate insurance.. that is human nature in its full glory my friend

As a Liberal I believe society need some nurturing and guidance..leaving it up to human nature and 'choice' alone to rule is a recipe for disaster...

Think of long term my friend.. legalising drugs in the morning with not appease the tax burden.. there might be a short term surplus, but that would be quickly eaten up...

I agree with you that the current Drugs Laws dont work.. I am a strong advocate in favour of social and legal reform in that area... and feel very strongly, in particular, about recent legal developments in Ireland... that is why I think more research has to be done, it is not a problem that will benefit from any kind of knee jerk reaction.. but SIMPLY legalising.. in my humble opinion.. will not work.. I think perhaps education together with more proactive and strategic methods of dealing with 'offenders' is the best route.. just a thought... I am as aware as anyone by the way that users are the victims.. have no issue with them... just the Ostrich in the sand approach that Governments seem to adopt.. ::handshake:

I accept the points you're making, and I think I touched on them to a degree...you see the difficulty is.. and this is why I expound the educational route... people get into drugs thinking its a little 'fun', and because they think its 'cool' what they don't realise is somewhere down the line it will not be a choice anymore, it will be a need and at that point life loses its point, all they need is there next fix.. I've seen it... Heroine is by far the worst, but Cocaine is almost as bad.. I did the party circuit in London and Dublin.. not a pretty sight after a while..

I mean educate them in the sense of show them health videos and meet reformed addicts to tell their stories... not GIVE them drugs.... in case ... the Coke scene in Ireland has exploded and we are already seeing the repercussions... Highly publicised deaths and that kinda thing.. met a guy recently was cute.. kept disappearing to the toilet, until after one of the visits he came down with his nose pumping blood.. he confessed later that he had spent $400 on the stuff that day to 'celebrate'

No.. I am just learning to accept that there is a distinct possibility it will never happen for me.. going to make it a new year resolution to come to terms with that

I am undecided.. I come accross a lot of people affected by drugs in my work, and while I accept that legalising drugs would have an almost immediate impact on directly related crime and have possible health benifits from the side effects of say e.g. dirty needles and the like... i think the use of Coke for e.g. could definitely increase and the social problems associated with that, although not as visible can be equally as extreme, I would like to see more studies done and I would like to see 'no holds barred' education on the issues in schools, if kids heard/seen have of what I have they would run a mile...
