UFC209 gonna be a banger!!

First of all, why isn't there a Sports category, in the forums. Had to put this into the current events section. laugh

Anyway Ferguson vs Khabib has to be the most fascinating matchup in recent MMA history.
Khabib going for an unbelievable 25 and 0 , Tony going for a 10 fight win streak.

Surely this will be Khabib's stiffest test and worst fight match up for him. Tony has a significant height and 6 inch reach advantage.

Really clueless about how this is gonna go, which is testament to Tony, as I usually pencil in Khabib for the victory no matter the opposition.

Gaggin for this fight, and that's not even mentioning the headliner:
The small matter of Wonderboy vs Woodley 2. boxing

Plus Bellew vs Haye in boxing, earlier that night on Sky sports.

Feels like Christmas .

Is this the end for Rowdy Ronda Rousey?

Wow Ronda TKO'd again after 48 seconds of the first round.
I'm not very surprised by her loss, but the manner of it was horrific for her.
Amanda Nunes is a lil murderer and a super likeable and honourable champ and long may she reign, but how did Ronda look so unbeatable for so long, only for her legacy to collapse somewhat by the manner of her last two defeats (shades of the demise of Mike Tyson ).
I hope she has the strength psychologically to get over her loss as she seems so fragile in that department, as if all her self worth is tied up on her being a winner.
Her coach Edmund has to take some of the blame for unbelievably naive tactics.

McGregor vs Alvarez

Well anyway here's my prediction for the main card.
If I had any balls, which I don't , I'd bet on:

Tate (hesitantly), Wiedman, Joanna, Wonderboy (somewhat hesitantly) and Conor (again hesitantly).

- Alvarez is a good match up for Conor as he has a significant reach advantage and he looks stronger physically.

McGregor vs Alvarez

I suppose it's an arms race between the testers and the juicers, like it's always been.
I hope they're either clean or get exposed for cheating.

McGregor vs Alvarez

Anyone have an opinion on how this one is gonna go.
UFC205 has to be the MOST stacked card ever even with some withdrawals.
Can Conor take Alvarez and be the first fighter in UFC to hold two belts simulataneously.
Cannot effing wait.
So many barn burners of fights (particularly Thompson vs Woodley).
Enjoy.

Why can't a candidate other than Trump or Hillary be president?

Hello there,
Just wondering if any of you politicos out there could explain why the President HAS to be Hillary or Trump come November?
Aren't Jill Stein and Gary Johnson on the ballet too?
Why doesn't that make it a four horse race?

- I know it's something to do with John Adams and trying to prevent factionalism from de-stabilising the Government back in the day, but not sure of the ins and outs.
Please explain like I'm five.

Thanks alot.

RE: Who will take SAM home???

I bet there was a million rosaries said at Knock this week too.
Shows all the good it does.

RE: When is it inappropriate to use your phone??

A good rule of thumb would be:
Would it be rude to take out a book and start reading it right now?
Yes? Then stop effing texting and life your life - also show some respect for the person right in front of you, rather than hoping for someone better on your phone.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

Forgot to say though:

Major credit to him.
Conor has no business being in there with those bigger guys , and he has amazing guts for even trying it.
And he showed unbelievable heart to keep going after the hammering he took in round 3.
But in future he should cut out the smack talk that he can beat anyone in any division. Clearly he can't , nor could any lighter fighter.ireland ireland

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

It has to be said though.
McGregor is an amazingly lucky fighter.

He was lucky that Rafael dos Anjos broke his foot just a few days before what was to be his fight for the lightweight belt (having really unfairly just jumped the queue in front of everyone - in particular really really tough dudes at 155 - Khabib Nurmagomedov, Eddie Alvarez, Cowboy Cerrone and loads more, and even the Irish guy who has already beat him - Joe Duffy.

These fights with Nate have proven that he wouldn't be a contender at 155 (Nate's natural weight class), and Nate though super tough, so far hasn't been a top contender for the title at 155. That said, maybe Nate is coming into his own now and can compete for that lightweight belt soon as he's no 1 contender now, though he only seems interested in fighting Conor for the trilogy, which of course makes sense financially for him.

Anyway, if Conor has good sense, he'll fight Nate for the third one, make a bag of money ,try win by decision, and never stir out of featherweight again, while managing to preserve the myth that he's invincible.

- Despite his constant bragging that he can beat anyone, his fights with Nate (a guy just one weight class above him) took his absolute best to get the win.

So get thee back to featherweight Conor!!
I'll stop rambling at this point as literally nobody is still reading at this point.
Peace.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

Jeazus me heart. That was the most tense fight I've ever watched.
I'd have to watch again but Conor probably scraped through (though if there was a round 6 Nate would've gotten even stronger.

All in all, not so bad for Nate: Really close decision and honour in defeat, and the prospect of another couple of mill for the trilogy.
He'll probably make way more money this way.

As for Conor,
He showed some serious class in the early going but gassed out badly, but he showed brilliant heart to recover somewhat.
He should fight Nate for a bag of money and never stir out of featherweight again.
Couldn't help wondering what Rory McDonald or Wonderboy would have done to him. He rode his luck.

Rumble Johnson a monster, and a class act as well

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

Still up here at crazy o'clock waiting for the fight.
Yeah this is not the fight for a big bet.

My gut is defying logic and telling me strongly that Conor is gonna do it, but my gut has just told me to eat a whole large pizza in one sitting, so it often gives me bad information.

On the Notorious!!!! ireland ireland ireland ireland

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

Another thing in his favour is that his six figure training camp has been specifically geared to fighting guys with Nate's size and skillset.
Kavanagh was saying that this is the first time they've targeted specific weaknesses in their opponent.
(If that's the case, they were crazily arrogant in their approach up to now (granted some of their opponents changed at short notice so you have to be ready).
Anyway if Conor can't beat Nate this time, with the perfect preparation, then he never will.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

I'd say the Diaz submission the more likely for sure.
Rewatched the first fight this morning.
Nate gave him an even worse beating than i remember.

Eff it though,
Go on the Notorious !!!!

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

Fight day boxing FINALLY.

Weirdly nervous for Conor. Heart majorly ruling head here but I'll change my tune: Conor by unanimous decision (as that's the only way he can win it).

Never looked forward to a fight more in my life!!

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

Forgot Jon Jones.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

And speaking of top tens, in no particular order (with the caveat that I don't watch too many different sports), ten dominant athletes in their prime:
LeBron, Usain Bolt, Rudisha, Jonah Lomu, Phelps, Gerry Rice, Messi, Tiger Woods, Michael Schumacher, Lennox Lewis, Mayweather, and I'll fling in Peter Canavan/Maurice Fitzgerald / Matt Connor ireland

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

Yep it's very subjective but Bolt would be on that top ten list of freak athletes for sure, possibly number 1 freak athlete who's ever lived.

The actual weigh in's (rather than the show weigh ins) are on right now. Nate looks in serious shape. Conor hasn't showed up yet but being late for stuff is his thing.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

They're only allowed to bring one person each with them to the weigh in, but I'd say it'll still be lively enough.
Conor wont have to drop any weight anyway, but they're saying Nate is around 200 pounds walking around, so he has a good bit to lose before weigh in. That'll suit Conor.

Yep Bolt an all time great ,and as you say, he's dominated at a sport that's accessible to everyone (compared to world class performers at other more elitist sports such a formula 1, where there's probably tonnes of folks with the talent that never got the chance.

Personally my fave track athlete is David Rudisha. It's just so easy for Bolt. He can win without breaking a sweat, but Rudisha's 800 metre event is so gruelling, that he has to demonstrate so much heart to win too (I'm not saying Bolt doesn't have heart at all, just expressing my personal preference for gruelling events as it says something about the athlete's character as well..

Pity Rio's nearly over.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

The weigh ins should be fireworks for sure. Nate looks massive for this one.
By the way , not to change codes but it's unreal that if Usain Bolt's team win the 4 x 100 relay tomorrow, he'll have an unbelievable 9 olympic gold medals.
Officially one fast hoor.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

Yep he did, and if Conor loses again Dana may not be so tolerant of his antics. I think most Irish fans will stay faithful to Conor no matter what , but American fans seem to love front runners only (as proven by their inexplicable love for Jon Jones , despite his terrible behaviour, and their hatred for Daniel Cormier, despite his really good behaviour laugh
so his fanbase stateside might shrink if he loses a few fights.
The UFC will put up with pretty much anything from him if he stays a big pay per view draw though.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

There was a way smaller crowd at the presser yesterday apparently, though in fairness there are a lot of reasons for that: Lots of travelling fans may have gone to the Euros instead. Olympics on now toO etc, and it's just so expensive to travel that far.
Also if i had tickets to the ufc200 card I'd have been pissed that Conor got thrown off it, so maybe fans won't travel in the same numbers this time.

Maybe all that bottle throwing was staged too, to generate some interest, though I doubt it.

Re: Streaming fight.

Watchfree.to is a really good one too.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

Jeazus 7/2 were tidy odds. Nice job!
Just shows how many partisan Irish fans were blindly betting on him.

I saw that Freddie Roach thing. All that speculation about a crossover fight with Mayweather in a boxing match too, was flat out ridiculous. How delusional is he?

One thing I really admire about McGregor though is his apparent fearlessness. Gotta give him that if nothing else.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

I'd agree with that. If Conor egotistically goes for the KO straight away again, he's gonna get mangled.
Nate can beat Conor in a lot of ways. Conor should go for the decision on points, as he def has the skills to keep away from Nate, but if he's too arrogant, he could get hurt, and his credibility will take a serious hit.

I don't even think Conor is that dominant at featherweight.
Lots of guys would be a challenge for him:
A resurgent Aldo, Max Holloway is on a tear, Edgar, Stephens.
All those guys could possibly beat Conor on their day.

I don't think the fix is in re: setting up that third fight, as I think Nate's profile is big enough now that he can fight other guys, challenge for titles and still be a needle mover as a draw on big cards, even without Conor.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

It'll be on circa 5am Sunday morning Irish time.
(main card from 2ish)

- By the way, if you're on UFC fight pass, it's not gonna be streamed til 2 days after the fight (which is BS blues )

Otherwise you can watch on Sky.
Loads of pubs showing it in Dublin, but don't know about down your country.

I'd agree with that. Can't see Conor knocking him out as he's way too durable. Nate only ever been stopped with a head kick.

Conor's best chance is tagging him and keeping away as he has the edge on hand speed. So winning by decision his best play.

In a grappling match Conor's in trouble for sure.

Very tense press conference tonight too. Conor showed up late, and Nate walked out. Ended up with them both throwing bottles. Crazy.

I have to say Conor's antics can be a bit much. I quite like Diaz. He's a legit fighter too.

Can't wait for it.

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

Well Conor has reportedly spent six figures on his training camp, which is unreal.
The amazing thing is Nate would probably stand to earn even more money if he loses, as they'd have to go for the third super-fight to decide it.

How bizarre. It's like Conor is single-handedly turning the UFC into the WWE with the theatricality of it all.

Haven't a clue how it gonna go though.
Can't see Conor knocking Nate out, but can see him using his superior speed to win by decision.

Roll on Saturday. Lots of Irish flags up too I notice (though maybe that's partly for the Olympics (even though we're not doing well).

McGregor vs Diaz part deux.

So how do you folks think the fight is gonna go down Saturday night?
Can't wait for it.
