One reason could be , similar reason to mine, is that YOU (and I) are too far away... i.e. in another country.. and no one is will to commit to a long distance relationship ( it is very hard) , or it is too much of a 'bother' ... and 99% would not have the $$ to travel to the next town let alone to another country

Yes I have a small veggie patch.. grow enough to keep me in veggies most part of the year.. I also have two chickens. All this in a small backyard.. you don't need much space.. I even grow some veggies in amongst other plants.. like a 'gap' filler..
I don't DO Facebook...When I spend a day with my sister she is watching her phone checking,all the time, what is happening on FB ... it is so annoying.

Yeah maybe phone password/pin.. even my (adult) son and my sister knows my phone pin number.. they have had to use my phone for whatever reason, no biggie, I don't mind..
Yeah illegals are STILL being exploited in the US. As one also need to consider that $4 in 1980 has the same "purchasing power" as $11.97 in 2018.
and there were also no OHS regulations in 1980 no blue collar workers in 1980 wore hard hats, masks etc... makes it a bit difficult to compare to today's conditions.
A lot of US workers, particularly the blue collar, get paid a lot less that $12 per hour even now...
