This stems from inadequate legislation not protective of children – children are entitled to both parents, be they married or not, together or separated… In Italy, the relevant legislation provides for equal rights and obligations of both parents towards their children, regardless of their marital status. I’m surprised that Ireland, which joined the EU long ago and is ahead of Italy in different fields (except the time zone and football, eh eh…) still keeps that obsolete legislation which may give either excess of power to mothers and no rights to fathers, or extra burden to mothers and no responsibilities to fathers!!
Legally speaking, I’m not sure there are grounds for you to claim any rights on your daughter since the legislation itself seems not to recognize them… In any case, before turning to court, which is time-, money- and energy-consuming, I would first try the path of dialogue with your ex partner, maybe with the help of somebody else (a friend, relative or whoever) who could mediate… And if you are patient, ‘mother’ wit may prevail…and no matter the intolerance to you, she may be convinced that since you are there ready to take charge it’s best not to ‘confuse’ and hurt the child and to let the father be the father and her partner be her partner
Heat, cold, dust, wind, insects, local diseases, desert land...I might be wrong but if this is the basic scenario there I guess it would be enough alone to make someone want to run away after 5 days!...and hate the sand for a lifetime... So max respect for those who can be strong enough to stay for the 5 years...they have what it takes to sort things out in life
